It will return for a couple of weeks if HeroesWorld hosts some interesting multiplayer tournament.

Maybe you could launch something else there on the first day of the expansion, or only play with Bronze and Silver cards, to keep things fresh and less stale.

Play with cards from only one expansion pack, and it doesn't necessarily have to be the latest one. You need to specify which expansion pack you're going to use beforehand.

Just brainstorming – here are a few more ideas from different Heroes of Might and Magic tournaments I've participated in: - Only basic and classic maps (although this might not be very interesting in a competitive setting). - You choose one class and play only with it; you can prepare any number of decks and change them whenever you want. - The winner is the one who kills their opponent's hero first.
