The author didn't complete the game with this hero. ;) Well, there is a mentor, so you can change the skills. You don't have to rush to capture the fourth Castle; you can build up your army first. A hero is a hero because it's not easy to play them, and it's normal that you don't succeed on the first try, in my opinion.
