Why use a destructive spell as the second move? I might just be out of the loop – which example are you referring to? Surely, in that example, you can't use "speed," like first, acceleration, then a force field, and then slowing (if you have the spell, of course; I'm just saying I'm not sure), followed by another force field, etc.?
This tactic has been known for a long time, and I have no idea who described it, and I didn't learn anything new from it.
And I also described a tactic for playing as the Tower with master genies a long time ago. We only take Titans, Gargoyles, Archmages, Nagas, and Genies into the army. They all have good speed. We divide the genies into 3 free slots – this will be a very significant magical reinforcement in your army. In the early stages, you can do without Titans and Nagas. Then, we take gremlins into the army. We place mages and gremlins in the extreme slots, and gargoyles in the middle. In the remaining 4 slots, we put master genies. And they all cast very useful spells on the gargoyles, plus the hero's spell. The result: the gargoyles are beasts, and they can even take down dragons!!! :D
