Patches, tools and engines
- GrayFace patches and MMExtension — Sergey "GrayFace" Rozhenko's unofficial patches for MM6–8 and his Lua-based modding environment, used by many MM6–8 mods[22][5].
- OpenEnroth — an open-source rewrite of the MM6–8 engine; Might and Magic VII is already playable[8].
- ScummVM runs the older games: Clouds of Xeen, Darkside of Xeen, World of Xeen and Swords of Xeen since version 2.1.0 (11 October 2019), and Might and Magic Book One since 2.8.0 (30 December 2023), when the engine was renamed from "xeen" to "mm"[23][24]. ScummVM rates all five as "good"[25]; Might and Magic II and III are not supported[25]. The engine's credits list Paul Gilbert and Benoit Pierre[26].
- TELP patches for Might and Magic IX — The Erathian Liberation Party set out in 2003 to fix as many of MM9's bugs as possible, stressing the work was not official or endorsed by 3DO[19]. Its 1.3 series kept compatibility with the official 1.2 patch, and its 1.4 series aimed at the game "the designers wanted to make"[27][28].
Mods
- Might and Magic 6, 7, 8 Merge — Rodril's merge of all three games on the MM8 engine (2017), with the most-replied thread in Celestial Heavens' Might and Magic forum and several active branches[5][29].
- The Chaos Conspiracy — a two-part total conversion for Might and Magic VI (2009–2010)[9][10].
- MM7Rev4mod — released on Celestial Heavens by asterix15 on 19 January 2008: about 30% of the game's event code and half of the map areas were changed, and the party can return to Emerald Island[11]. GameBanshee reported it as adding new quests, map areas and graphic enhancements[30]. Later modders call it Big Daddy Jim's mod and built on it, including Maestro[31] and DaveHer[32]; a port for the Merge exists[33].
- Elemental Mod by Tomsod — "an ongoing project to improve MM7 without losing what makes it unique"; version 4.1.1 came out in April 2026 in English, German and Russian[12][13][34].
- Might and Magic VII: Amber Island by neutonm — an expansion with new outdoor maps, dungeons, quests and mercenaries, released on 26 January 2022 and still updated[14][15].
- Might and Magic VIII Redone — DaveHer's HD graphics and quest mod for MM8 (2021)[16].
- Echo of Destruction («Меч и Магия 8,5: Эхо Разрушения») — an MM8 mod that vladimir-maestro presented under this name in June 2011[17][35]; it was never released, and its author later published MM7: Augmentation, a reworking of MM7[18].
- Other MM7 projects include Might & Magic 7: Reimagined (2020)[36][37].
Fan games
- Might and Magic Tribute: Book of Ceth — Castle Gobs' freeware RPG set in the Might and Magic universe (2003–2009)[20].
- Swords of Xeen (1995) started as a fan-made modification of the World of Xeen engine by Catware, later authorised and published by New World Computing[38].
Might & Magic X
Might & Magic X: Legacy came with an official modding kit during early access in November 2013, but using it required a copy of Unity Pro[39].
