This program is designed for people who play in teams. It allows you to send voice messages to each other, and it doesn't require an incredibly fast internet connection (I have 256/64 kbps). I haven't actually tested it during online gameplay. Here are the links:

I'm not sure if it's needed in Heroes; after all, the game is slow. But in dynamic team games, it's indispensable (Counter-Strike, Warcraft, etc.).
For best results, you should have a headset (headphones plus a built-in microphone) or separate headphones and a microphone. Using speakers is not recommended, as your teammates will hear themselves through them. This is because the sound arrives with a slight delay.
It can also be used instead of a phone for people living in different cities and those who don't like written communication (ICQ, etc.).
It doesn't use much traffic and barely loads the connection, which is very important for ping in games.

Isn't channel registration free there?

I have the program, and I know how to use it, but my headphones with a microphone are already in use. In general, it's a good program and can be used instead of a chat.

Well, it works for small parties in dungeons, but when there are a lot of people, Ventrilo seems like a more serious option.
