Yes, everything was beautiful there, a very elaborate setup, and veterans from both sides haven't completely forgotten the heroes; they can tell stories. I wasn't at the match and regretted not being able to go; I had to read about pro-gamers and the Heroes League. The young Chaos League drew strength from gamers who played Counter-Strike, Quake, StarCraft, Warcraft, and I don't remember what else; they all played in the tournaments of the esports federation. There was a large base, and about 60 players regularly gathered for tournaments. In general, it all came down to arguing about fixed maps vs. random maps; the Moscow players insisted that fixed maps were outdated and that random maps would soon dominate (they were right), and that all the best players played on random maps (but that wasn't necessarily true in 2002). And the players from St. Petersburg suggested proving it in practice. They agreed to play on fixed maps according to Moscow rules, but it didn't matter what the rules were because playing against St. Petersburg on fixed maps was like packing 1000 dollars and sending it to the address "St. Petersburg, to be claimed." Although the Moscow players played very well, it wasn't enough to win.

For young players, I should say that the country had just come out of a difficult time; the dollar was different, salaries were different, and most importantly, everyone was young and mostly broke, so a thousand dollars was a decent amount of money.

But never mind, the main thing is that the Moscow and St. Petersburg players met, and thanks to such contacts, Krasnodar-2004 took place; it was the third one, the first was in 2002 on fixed maps, and the second was already on random maps, which at that time no one really understood except Cobra, who had already secured second place after Chaos.)

Thanks, Eric. I remember that match. It's nice to refresh the memory of the good old days... including the Cobras.

I even remember that final game; it was going pretty well until "intelligence reported" that they had given all the air control to unupgraded Golems... and the semi-final with Mystic, I think, but the toughest one was with Joker and Borzoid: with Joker, I played on an 8x8 map, and about 10 Grizzly Bears blocked the road, and I spent 3 weeks on the respawn point, not giving up, waiting for a miracle. The miracle came in the form of Joker's main hero, who attacked them and immediately surrendered :eek:
And with Borzoid, I had my most epic game on a 6x6 map - killing 53 Archons, there was an Orb there, I had an Elixir, but my entire army was smaller: 18 Black Dragons and the rest of the Dungeon creatures... I managed to close in on the archers tactically and somehow shoot and micro-manage them; the Archons practically wiped out any stack with one hit. Maybe someone remembers the details better)
