I also don't agree. KOBRA is the best player of 2016 (I respect him, he's a very strong player – in my top 5). We can create statistics showing who won the biggest tournaments and games between the top 10-15 ranked players. So, I think 2016 should go to FTS.

I read the thread, and I agree with Dark on some points; this year, no one really stood out in terms of results. Previously, you could check the Hall of Fame to see who performed well, but that section hasn't been updated since 2014.
As far as I remember and can see, Hell won Favorites-8, I won Only HL-3, and Kobra won the HotA Blitz tournament. I don't think there were any other major tournaments; all the second places and wins in qualifiers are just... meaningless. If I missed any tournaments, feel free to correct me.
It's funny to watch how some people choose based on the principle of "he hasn't won yet, let's give it to him." In my opinion, this completely undermines the purpose of the tournament.

To avoid confusion, we should add the nominations "Breakthrough of the Year" and "Disappointment of the Year." :)
For example, based on what's been said, Amster would be "Breakthrough of the Year." And a hypothetical "SevenSan" with his malfunctioning ATMs would be "Disappointment of the Year."

Player of the Year - the primary criterion is results. Noticeable progress compared to the previous year, strategic/tactical innovations - these are the secondary criteria.
And there might be nuances, such as extremely unsportsmanlike behavior, which could be a reason not to receive the "Player of the Year" award, even with the best results. But these are rare exceptions, which are also considered on an individual basis.

Strange voting. In my opinion, Gomunguls plays better than anyone else. This year, he plays a lot and even streams. Moreover, he confidently wins most of the series and games with stakes (where there is more motivation than in tournament games for him).

I don't understand which "all" tournaments Cobra won?:) Various Hota tournaments don't count because many strong players don't participate in them at all. ONLYXL, FB, and Lyubimchiki are the tournaments to watch. Also, pay attention to the rating and series with decent stakes (where motivation is high).

Yes, perhaps there is one reason: 3 times more players participate in SoD tournaments. That is, it can be said with confidence that those who sign up for HotA tournaments are (mostly) people who sign up for any tournament regardless of the same.

Yes, perhaps there is a reason: there are 3 more players participating in SOD tournaments. That is, it can be confidently said that those who sign up for all tournaments without discrimination also sign up for HOTA tournaments.

The fact that more people play SOD can be just as easily explained by simple inertia of thought and unwillingness (due to sheer laziness) to learn something new, even if it is much better. Just an idea.
