Posts from What mixed hero class of the (Necropolis) faction do you like?
Which hero do you like?
I haven't tried the Lich. The original one, if its ability doesn't extend to ranged attacks, is a very questionable combination, not supported by any bonus. The one from Equilibrium is excellent, especially for Chaos. Lich + Black Dragons: "Well, hello there, my dear friend."
The Assassin is quite good, in two directions. Either it's a mobile Warrior, cursing its enemies, or a Sorcerer with a bonus to initiative.
The Dark Lord is unnecessary. The Transmuter and Necromancy will raise the "growth" sufficiently on their own, and the class bonus is a simple 2nd-level spell that is easier to cast through a spellbook (for 4 targets). The Lord of Order would be better off considering the Cardinal; there, magic will not only help the army but also increase his own survivability, and the bonus is more pleasant (although if the focus is on mechanisms, you might consider having the Lord collect vampires for his army in addition to his own troops).
The Ninja is serious in Equilibrium and quite useless in the original. In the case of Equilibrium, we are talking about a scout with a bow and Death magic for prestige, not a full-fledged Necromancer.
The Rogue is good due to the combination of classes, which is exactly what Death needs. In Equilibrium, he also has a quite serious ability.
The Lich ages with any attack, including ranged attacks. The question is, how will the Lich help your creatures? The Lich is not a Fire Guardian; your creatures will easily defeat him with their breath attack, and you can't apply buffs to your creatures without a ring. If you're talking about debuffs to reduce damage to your creatures and increase their damage, then a Cardinal or a Fire Guardian with Armageddon is, in my opinion, more useful.
The usefulness of the Assassin is debatable - you can cast the speed boost as a mass spell, and you can only run away from slow creatures; for a mage, an earlier turn? For a class that has martial skills, it's not very useful; in most cases, the mage will shoot first before casting debuffs, and Hand of Death often hits an invisible target at the beginning of the battle.
You forgot about the Witch Hunter for the Lord :).
In Equilibrium, the Ninja is a Beholder-like hero - what could be better? :)
The combination of tactics and Death magic - what's so good about it? It will take down a creature with the very first shot
The Lich ages with every attack, including ranged attacks.
The usefulness of the Assassin is debatable – you can cast a mass spell for acceleration, and you can only run away from slow units. For a mage, an earlier turn? For a class that has combat skills, it's not very useful.
In Equilibrium, the Ninja is a hero-beholder – what could be better?
I'm talking about the classic game. In Equilibrium, there are more interesting bonuses, but there is no fundamental difference from the classic game.
Regarding the Assassin, for whom I voted, I gave a detailed explanation in my previous post. He doesn't need to fight on the battlefield – he needs to survive.

Dark Priest, and there’s no need to invest in death magic.

What is the Death race based on? - on necromancy (raising the undead). What is the main task of a necromancer for this? - not to cast magic (it is weak compared to other races) and especially not to fight in melee (to age the enemy), but to survive in battle. Which class is best suited for this? - assassin. And when this line is leveled up, you can choose whatever you want. But this is my personal opinion, because another player may use other skills and techniques in the game with no less success.
So, according to you, classes focused on combat skills are ideal for a particular race?
Okay, let's evaluate (+ - suitable):
General - life (+, morale has always suited the light, death - +/-, suitable for a demon army, useless for an undead army)
The General's bonus affects not only monsters but also heroes, raising their morale, which allows them to act in time and cast spells.
I don't see any particularly useful bonuses (for Necropolis) in other classes besides the Fire Mage, so I won't touch them.
But for the Necromancer, the most useful skill is the 4th one, and if he doesn't survive, he will not only remain without experience but also leave the army without reinforcements. Therefore, it is quite natural for him to be able to withstand a random attack and, if necessary, escape from the enemy. In this regard, the Assassin is a quite suitable class. This is especially useful at the beginning of the game when there is no strong army to protect the hero.
Happy New Year!

Well, let's start with the basics. Any hero participating in a battle will benefit from combat skills (so they don't get taken down by the first enemy). The question is when to take this additional skill.

And in your opinion, shouldn't the Priest survive to reduce losses?

Otherwise, the Demonologist is decent. You can level up a Reaver, not for the class bonus, but for the bonuses from the tactics (although it's better to take a Knight (of Death) as your second hero).
