Favorites, to battle! - 8

For the eighth time, we will compete for our favorite castle, prove its strength, delight viewers with interesting games and unconventional combinations. In this tournament, each player immediately chooses a faction that they will play throughout the tournament.
The first such tournament took place in 2008.
Conflux and Necropolis have twice celebrated victory; once, Fortress, Castle, and Rampart were the best.
What will happen now?

I. General questions.
1. Throughout the tournament, each participant plays as their chosen favorite faction.
2. Game version SoD 3.2 (4.0) + HD mod + HW_rules_mod patch. The latest stable version is currently available: as of early December 2015, HD mod 4.0 RC33, HW_rules_mod 1.38.
3. Color in bracket tables – for the initial seeding. Colors change after each SUBJECTIVE restart.
4. The choice of template is made by crossing out one from the list of 9 templates: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, and Spider. The player marked with blue in the table starts eliminating a template.
By mutual agreement, it is permissible to play on any other template. This issue must be discussed beforehand with the tournament judges.
5. If there are two identical factions in a match, then the template is chosen from the list: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, Spider, mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1.
In this case, players bargain for the right to choose the starting hero. Players take turns (first, the one marked red in the table, then - blue) crossing out one undesirable hero from the full list; then, the players inform each other how much gold they are willing to transfer to their opponent for the right to make the first choice among the remaining heroes. The player who offers the larger amount chooses the hero first and transfers the gold to his opponent.
On the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, each player has one subjective restart at 111.
Also, on the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, players negotiate over color. The player who offers the larger amount chooses which color he will play as and transfers the gold to his opponent.
6. Standard rules apply.
The default timer is chess clock style, with parameters specified in the rules.
Any changes to the game rules are allowed by mutual agreement of the players, except for changing the Favorite Castle and the Fair Play rule.
Additional rules for templates:
Mini-Nostalgia. The participant marked with blue in the table begins choosing computer opponents' castles. When the color changes, the selection is not repeated; the castles chosen by the player remain his secondary choices.
Diamond. The participant marked red in the table removes an extra (ninth) castle. If the favorite castles are identical, then red first removes one castle, then blue - a second.

II. Organizational questions.
1. This tournament is official and regular.
2. Tournament goals:
- to play as your favorite faction and try to prove its strength,
- to gain valuable experience and improve your gameplay.
3. The tournament is held according to the Rules for organizing, conducting, and participating in tournaments.
4. Players listed on the Blacklist and Penalty Bench are not allowed to participate in the tournament.
5. Tournament hosts and judges: Pit for LM (ICQ: 471401475) and
KobRa_RR (ICQ: 286406830).
If it is impossible to resolve a controversial issue independently, the judges will seek help from the AC.
The host has the right to make any changes to the regulations and rules during the tournament if necessary.
6. For each played match, participants must submit a report and confirmation in this thread, created automatically.
Saves of all matches must be saved until the end of the tournament and presented upon first request by the tournament host or any member of the AC.
7. Information about the progress of the tournament is updated as needed and is located at the beginning of this thread.
8. All games of the tournament go into the seasonal rating. The list of tournament reports is also located at the beginning of this thread.
9. The winner of the tournament and players who took 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded Medals under their avatar:

Award authors: RAPER and ColdRain.

III. Deadlines.
All participants in the tournament must strictly adhere to the announced deadlines:
1. Immediately after the start of the next stage or round, contact your opponents for preliminary arrangements for the games. Agreeing means reaching an agreement after negotiations and discussion. An offer without a response will not be considered an agreement.
2. Any temporary problems (with internet access, travel plans, personal matters) must be reported to the tournament hosts.
3. The preferred time for tournament games is daytime (12-24 Moscow time) on weekends and evening (19-24 Moscow time) on weekdays. If a participant cannot play at this time, the absence of a game result will be interpreted by the host in favor of his opponent.

Registration - October 25 – November 24, 2015.
Approval of the list of participants - November 25-29, 2015.
Bracket generation - November 30, 2015. The bracket will be generated taking into account the declared faction and the player's skill level based on the results of other tournaments.
Start of the tournament - December 1, 2015.

IV. Regulations.
The regulations will be determined after the end of registration, depending on the number of participants.
A standard format is planned: group stage and Full Double Elimination.

Winners of previous "Favorites, to battle!" tournaments:

"Favorites, to battle! - 1" (2008) - Dudge (Necropolis) - Tournament history

Some kind of weird game turned out. From the start, I scouted 4 external dwellings of horses, a Griffin Conservatory, 2 hives, and boots; Kyrre grabbed Pathfinding, Earth, and Attack. On day 115, I discover there's no road to the center, but I don't take the rest. Instead, I take an empty chest and, out of frustration, dive into the dwarf dwelling without checking — it's max-level, -4 horses. On day 116, I lose two more horses for a Helm +12.
ГО triple, rusty + champions + titans, I break through only on day 125. I reach the Castle on day 127, grabbing a chest of 15 upgraded cyclopes along the way. Things are looking up; on the third week, I start a slow center clear — but the opponent surrenders.
Thanks for the game.

It turned out to be some kind of unclear game. From the start, I revealed 4 external dwellings of horses, a Griffin Conservatory, 2 Dragon Fly Hives, and boots; Kyrre picked up Pathfinding, Earth magic, and Attack. On day 115, I discover there is no road to the center, but I don't take the rest. Instead, I take an empty chest and, out of despair, go into a Dwarf Cottage without checking — it's the maximum roll, -4 horses. On day 116, I lose another two horses for a Helm +12.
Triple ГО, Rust Dragons + Champions + Titans, I only break through on day 125. I reach the Castle on day 127, grabbing a chest of 15 upgraded Cyclopes on the way. Things start looking up; on the third week, there's a slow cleanup of the center — but the opponent surrenders.
Thanks for the game.

If Tazik gets Water magic on level 3, delete Tazik — he is not needed.
I gathered the respawn (2 external dwellings of Hydras and 40+ ducks) and go out on day 124 through Angels with Golden Bow, losing everything except 37 ducks. Everything seems fine, there's a bit of meat left from secondary heroes. But! Then comes the Pope's turn. Tazik with Tactics easily dies to 100+ Cyber Kings for 2 chests. Right after coming out. Result: on day 125, I'm left with 4 Earth Elementals from the Refugee Camp to clear the respawn. On day 134, I took a home Dragon Utopia with Captain's Hat.
How I counted the number of Cyclopes, I have no idea.
Thanks for the game.

If the "Tazik" unit is consistently failing to capture water sources on the third turn, remove it – it's not useful.
A "Tazik" with that kind of tactic is easily defeated by 100+ Cyclops Kings.
Am I the only one who thinks these two phrases don't quite go together? ;)

Mass Bless + Tactics is OP for the swamp. Group lizards: 2-5, flies: 2-5... and so on. Average damage increases by 2 times. Water is a very underrated school imho (talking about SoD obviously). Specifically in FB against opps - it' same strongest school.

Almost all low-level units are sensitive to Bless. This is especially noticeable with Troglodytes, Harpies, Air Elementals, and Nix. It's hard to imagine Medusas as a main-strike stack; they're more loners, and you won't get much benefit from Bless on them. But yes, in battles with huge armies, Water Magic is the most important global modifier.

What I meant was that forgetting to cast a spell is possible.
I can just picture setting up a 3rd-level magic guild in a swamp to catch the Forgetfulness creature on a Jebus.

I can just see building the 3rd grail in the swamp to catch Forgetfulness on Jebus
If you already took Water, it's no sin to search for such a valuable spell... especially since there are 2 villages at respawn, and you don't have to strain the main.

The opponent chose all the rest, I had 111 left. Gurney arrived, at Castle there were stables along the road, a spread of 8 heroes, there were creature banks. The respawn was huge and lucrative. I built Cyclopes in the Barbarian village. On 116, Gurney "crashed" into a max Dragon Fly Hive, which turned out to be a very successful move; the Miner finished off the Dragon Fly Hive with the remaining meat, and Gurney did not lose very important MP. I came out on 123 with a good start. Gurney: 14-10-6-(30), Armor, Earth, Logistics, Intelligence, Leadership, Cape of Speed +2. The only thing that saddened me was the lack of Archery, since I had Arrows and Bowstring. Army: 23 Wyverns, 26 Cyclops Kings, 2 Angels, 4 Vampire Lords (I took their external dwelling on 117, I did not take other external dwellings). The center turned out to be native; on the very first day I found 3 Angelic Arches and 15 Manticores in it. The opponent came running, checked Gurney's combat effectiveness with a scout hero, and surrendered. Thanks for the game.

Tactics and +2 speed, why forgetfulness? 37 ducks against 112 kings, mass berserk would have been needed here, not forgetfulness. And land was needed for angels. In this game, I had only 3 problematic battles, and water didn't help anywhere; I only cast mass heal because I could, it was really useless.
The point is that 1) I got annoyed by Tazik with water, 2) I blindly didn't pay attention to the number of cyclops, 3) I lost.
Water is water, but land would have been more useful.

P.S., forgetfulness was in the shrine, but already after the loss.

Lizard strategically chose the castle that is more advantageous to play against using HotA :)

Actually, it would have been more advantageous for me to play SoD; I was playing Dungeon, and the opponent was Barbarian) and I built up the cyclops in the village:)
