Favorites, to battle! - 8

For the eighth time, we will compete for our favorite castle, prove its strength, delight viewers with interesting games and unconventional combinations. In this tournament, each player immediately chooses a faction that they will play throughout the tournament.
The first such tournament took place in 2008.
Conflux and Necropolis have twice celebrated victory; once, Fortress, Castle, and Rampart were the best.
What will happen now?

I. General questions.
1. Throughout the tournament, each participant plays as their chosen favorite faction.
2. Game version SoD 3.2 (4.0) + HD mod + HW_rules_mod patch. The latest stable version is currently available: as of early December 2015, HD mod 4.0 RC33, HW_rules_mod 1.38.
3. Color in bracket tables – for the initial seeding. Colors change after each SUBJECTIVE restart.
4. The choice of template is made by crossing out one from the list of 9 templates: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, and Spider. The player marked with blue in the table starts eliminating a template.
By mutual agreement, it is permissible to play on any other template. This issue must be discussed beforehand with the tournament judges.
5. If there are two identical factions in a match, then the template is chosen from the list: 2SM4d(3), Balance, skirmish (at 200% difficulty), Jebus cross, Mini-Nostalgia, Diamond, 8mm6a, 6LM10a, Spider, mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1.
In this case, players bargain for the right to choose the starting hero. Players take turns (first, the one marked red in the table, then - blue) crossing out one undesirable hero from the full list; then, the players inform each other how much gold they are willing to transfer to their opponent for the right to make the first choice among the remaining heroes. The player who offers the larger amount chooses the hero first and transfers the gold to his opponent.
On the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, each player has one subjective restart at 111.
Also, on the mir_diamond and mir_h3dm1 templates, players negotiate over color. The player who offers the larger amount chooses which color he will play as and transfers the gold to his opponent.
6. Standard rules apply.
The default timer is chess clock style, with parameters specified in the rules.
Any changes to the game rules are allowed by mutual agreement of the players, except for changing the Favorite Castle and the Fair Play rule.
Additional rules for templates:
Mini-Nostalgia. The participant marked with blue in the table begins choosing computer opponents' castles. When the color changes, the selection is not repeated; the castles chosen by the player remain his secondary choices.
Diamond. The participant marked red in the table removes an extra (ninth) castle. If the favorite castles are identical, then red first removes one castle, then blue - a second.

II. Organizational questions.
1. This tournament is official and regular.
2. Tournament goals:
- to play as your favorite faction and try to prove its strength,
- to gain valuable experience and improve your gameplay.
3. The tournament is held according to the Rules for organizing, conducting, and participating in tournaments.
4. Players listed on the Blacklist and Penalty Bench are not allowed to participate in the tournament.
5. Tournament hosts and judges: Pit for LM (ICQ: 471401475) and
KobRa_RR (ICQ: 286406830).
If it is impossible to resolve a controversial issue independently, the judges will seek help from the AC.
The host has the right to make any changes to the regulations and rules during the tournament if necessary.
6. For each played match, participants must submit a report and confirmation in this thread, created automatically.
Saves of all matches must be saved until the end of the tournament and presented upon first request by the tournament host or any member of the AC.
7. Information about the progress of the tournament is updated as needed and is located at the beginning of this thread.
8. All games of the tournament go into the seasonal rating. The list of tournament reports is also located at the beginning of this thread.
9. The winner of the tournament and players who took 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded Medals under their avatar:

Award authors: RAPER and ColdRain.

III. Deadlines.
All participants in the tournament must strictly adhere to the announced deadlines:
1. Immediately after the start of the next stage or round, contact your opponents for preliminary arrangements for the games. Agreeing means reaching an agreement after negotiations and discussion. An offer without a response will not be considered an agreement.
2. Any temporary problems (with internet access, travel plans, personal matters) must be reported to the tournament hosts.
3. The preferred time for tournament games is daytime (12-24 Moscow time) on weekends and evening (19-24 Moscow time) on weekdays. If a participant cannot play at this time, the absence of a game result will be interpreted by the host in favor of his opponent.

Registration - October 25 – November 24, 2015.
Approval of the list of participants - November 25-29, 2015.
Bracket generation - November 30, 2015. The bracket will be generated taking into account the declared faction and the player's skill level based on the results of other tournaments.
Start of the tournament - December 1, 2015.

IV. Regulations.
The regulations will be determined after the end of registration, depending on the number of participants.
A standard format is planned: group stage and Full Double Elimination.

I don't quite understand – what does color distribution mean in the first game? Are groups played in BO2?
The colors change after each restart.

A very lucky streak turned out)))
:smile14:

So, I bred Val with unupgraded Archers, but there are 25 of them, there's a Ballista, Octavia, and Rizza. Along the way, Lene broke through 50+ Halflings with a Pre-Er, and there stood 40+ Gogs for a scroll and Lizards. I didn't want to sacrifice the Archers, so I spent the entire first week farming the respawn along the chains. I captured an external dwelling of Horses, upgraded them at Stables, and built them in my Citadel. At the start of week 2, Lene takes a Dwarf Cottage with 20, and Valeska breaks through the Archers and travels from the respawn along a very long road. I only left the respawn on Day 123, but the scroll behind the Gogs turned out to be a Town Portal scroll :smile54: and the plan became clear as day: to quickly build up some village, while Lene, with two Horses and Earth Magic, moves off-road to explore another passage through the Lift. On Day 124 - captured a Rampart village and took out the green Barbarian player.
Day 125 - through a bugged passage, I see that the green guy is no simple lad and didn't hesitate to beat up the ORANGE player, who coincidentally turned out to be Castle as well :smile54:
From the Barbarian to the Castle via the bugged passage is about 2500 movement points, so Val only reached it on Day 126, and the Rampart already had Mage Guild 2.
I was preparing for an easy time, built a Town Hall at the Barbarian's, and at the Castle it was also there. I planned to leisurely build Mage Guild 4 and teleport on Archangels by mid-week 3, but no, not happening, dammit!!!
From the Lift in the Barbarian steppes, right next to a huge palm tree, Kyrre herself came running-flying in and shamelessly took my Barbarian with a hefty army of 40+ Grands, 18 Wyverns, 6 Horses, and 8 Angels, and this against my 30+ Marksmen and 10 Horses scattered all over the map! :smile40:
All plans go to hell, and only a miracle can save me. I also split my army cunningly: 6 Horses for Val and the Archers with 2 Horses and Pikemen on a decoy near the Barbarian, which the opponent didn't bother to cut off. So under war conditions, a plan for the evacuation of the remaining army begins, building the coveted Guild, and reducing Kyrre's speed!
In short, I had to put aside an interesting TV show and seriously get down to calculations. The idea was that from the Barbarian to the Rampart, Kyrre needs 2500 movement points, to the Castle player also 2500. If she captured either of these towns on this turn, I would lose... I disrupted her momentum and placed a decoy on the road near the Castle, hoping he could manage it and she wouldn't have enough movement for one turn, because near the Castle there's a fat Griffin Conservatory, which I dared not take.
Lene, meanwhile, reached some village in the wilderness and was at the starting line with Expert Earth Magic
Kyrre could see a piece of the Castle from her scouting range, but for some reason didn't go for it, and instead moved like Napoleon into a portal to my capital (to which, at full speed, it's 6000+ movement :D ). Thank the gods, hope appeared, so on Day 131 I finish Mage Guild 4 - there's, of course, some junk like Counterstrike and Fire Shield. I split Lene - he takes the third Conservatory, then I jump to the Rampart - there the decoys take the Conservatory. Well, in short, while Kyrre was running back and forth, giving up on going to my capital, I slowly pulled myself together and gathered an army for defense. Mage Guild 5 gave Fissure, I planned to rebuild Mage Guild 4 to get some combat spell and slap the insolent elf, but disappointment awaited me... We play without rebuilding the Mage Guild, CARL :smile31:

On Day 134, I finally had to give up the Rampart village, luckily there was nothing useful in it anymore, and I had taken everything around it in the form of a Conservatory, Dragon Fly Hive, and Cyclops pit. I Town Portal to a village underground, and from there I ride to the treasure zone. At the end of the week, I had to move the army from there to defend the Castle player. Kyrre saw that there was a decent force there. In the end, Lene slowly, on Days 141-142, takes 3 Dragon Utopias in the treasure zone. All minor artifacts (((((( gave All6, All2, GB, Bracers, and Kostya Lizard's favorite Orb :smile54:
I can already imagine Lene, without Dimension Door, running on Archangels across the whole map and suggesting we pray... hmm, not a cheerful prospect...
But on Day 143, after 3 scrolls with junk on easy game, I get a Dimension Door scroll in the treasure zone, and from there, through papal views, I see a cluster of red shields is not far away in another treasure zone. Jump-jump and Lene catches up with Nelka and his army. There are 36 Ducks, 50+ Grands, and 18 Horses. All this was taken without losses, then I upgraded Archangels, jumped around the map, and it's the opponent's turn :smile15:
Thanks for the game!

We got lucky, and the slow roads worked in our favor, so everything was incredibly slow. On the first day, I had 12357 in the citadel with an orc ambush, and I defended a gold mine on grass with a paladin and archers. On the second day, I made a mistake and went for the treasure, defended a couple of quest artifacts, and got 30 gold for one of them. Then I went for the village and almost finished leveling up the land. At that moment, Octavia arrived and took the hive. On the next turn, I brought the sand golems and wolves and attacked. One spell of weakness was cast, so it was tough against the sultans, but in the end, the opponent fled. I was left with 42 orcs, 30 wolves, a bear, 6 sand golems, and some goblins. The opponent surrendered an artifact, giving me experience and a surrender bonus. Thanks for the game!

We started playing for luck, got slow roads, so everything was painfully slow. On the first, in Citadel with an orc external dwelling, I captured the gold mine on grass behind some half-baked knights. On the second, I hesitated, went to the treasure zone, captured a couple of quest artifacts — one gave 30 cloth gr. Then I went for the village, almost maxed out Earth. Just then Octavia came to the same treasure zone and ate the Hive. Next turn I brought Sandars with wolves and attacked. 1 spell was saddening, so the sultans hurt badly; in the end, the opponent fled, leaving 42 orcs, 30 wolves, a bear, 6 Sandars, and a few goblots. The opponent surrendered an artifact — it gave exp, and then the concede followed. Thanks for the game!
The first-week loss didn't let me tempo on the second week, so I basically skipped through almost everything. Also, the road from the main to the adjacent zone was inconvenient. In the end, a deserved defeat

We restarted. In the tavern, there are 2 heroes from my faction; the resource crate costs 10-19 gold. I'm already happy, and after the first move, I see a path leading out of the one-way area. I went to look for the entrance. On turn 112, I took the resource crate and got the money I needed. The respawn point is small, so I immediately jump into the one-way area, but the path is blocked. I had to go further along the road. There, I somehow found a path and on turn 117, I killed the Companion Castle hero. The castle hero had a warrior and 2 mages; I killed about 40 Gremlochs with arrows. The Naga was only able to carry me to turn 121. I found 2 resource crates, but I couldn't take them. I fought off a Rampart hero, and there were 2 more resource crates. I decided to try to level up the Kreg. Nila didn't want to go any further; she got Intelligence/Wisdom/Armor to 8 and received Luck at 9. I positioned Kreg in front of the Pandora box with 10-19 cavalry units. However, in battle, when I saw 18 cavalry units, I thought that the entire 4th-level unit might be there. I took Nila, and indeed, it was the entire 4th-level unit. I slowly started to gain ground, and I used the quest item to defeat the skeleton at the respawn point for 50 Goblins. It was just the right amount of meat to take the resource crates. The first resource crate was level 2, the second was level 3. The third resource crate turned out to be level 4 (I lost two Angels, so you could say it was a level 2). Kreg is developing Wisdom and Earth, and Nila gives him the entire 4th-level unit; Nila takes another level 3 resource crate. In total, 10 Angels. Then things started to go well; Kreg gathers Treasure, and Nila develops Earth for the Utopian. On turn 136, I scout and find 2 more Utopians. On turn 137, I take them. One Utopian is level 3 (+6+4 all stats and Knowledge), the second is level 2 (+5+2 all stats). Kreg found the Pandora box for the entire 5th-level unit somewhere in the Treasure two days earlier. On turn 141, I rush into the opponent's tower to take the bonus. The opponent, seeing no prospects, surrenders. Thank you for the game.

:smile14:

So, Val was bred without upgraded archers, but there are 25 of them, plus a ballista, Octavia, and Rizza. I exited the respawn only on day 123, but the scroll behind the gogs turned out to be a Town Portal scroll :smile54: and the plan became as clear as day — quick construction of some village, while Lenya meantime on two horses with Earth magic moved off-road to explore another passage through the lift. At the end of the week, I had to move the army from there to defend the Castle-town, since Kyrre saw it was substantial. In the end, Lenya leisurely on days 141-142 takes 3 Dragon Utopias in the treasure zone. All minis(((((( gave all level 6, all level 2, Giant's Bracers, and Kostya Lizard's favorite orb :smile54:
I can already picture Lenya without Dimension Door running on Archangels across the map and offering to pray... yeah, not a cheerful prospect...
But on day 143, after 3 scrolls of junk on Easy Game, I take a Dimension Door scroll in the treasure zone, and from there through papal inspections I see a cluster of red shields not far in another treasure zone, hop-hop, and Lenya caught Nelka with the army. There were 36 Wyverns, 50+ Grand Elves, and 18 horses. All were taken without losses, then I upgraded to Archangels, hopped around the map, and it was my opponent's turn :smile15:
Thanks for the game!

Good start for me. 7 elves from heroes, made them in town day 1 and also an external dwelling of elves. Kyrre came fast in tavern and fast development. I was hurry not to let my opponent making to many demons. So when I saw him I ran for final battle and that was a good decision, my army was stronger and my hero had better stats. We restarted. In the tavern, there are 2 native heroes, a chest for 10-19 griffins, and I'm already happy, as after the first move, I see a way out of the one-way path. I came to run and look for the entrance. On day 112, I took a chest - they gave me the necessary money. However, in battle, seeing 18 cavalry, I have the thought that there might be the entire 4th-level creature there. I take Nila - and that's right, it's the entire 4th-level creature. The third consort turns out to be 4 (I lost two angels, so you can say it's a 2). Kreg advances wisdom and earth, receives the entire 4th-level creature from Nila, and Nila takes another 3rd-level consort. In total, 10 angels. Then things start to go well; Kreg gathers treasure, and Nila experts earth for the Utopia. On day 136, I scout and find 2 more Utopias. On day 137, I take them. 1 Utopia is 3 - +6+4 all and castle guard, the second is 2 +5+2 all. Kreg found Pandora for the entire 5th level in the treasure about two days earlier. On day 141, I rush into the opponent's tower to take the growth. The opponent, seeing no prospects, surrenders. Thanks for the game.

It was. For me, my map was very bad: no consorts, no Utopia, no Pandora. From the swamp, I go to the snow... like that. On the 3rd week, day 131, on the tower, magic 4 but no town portal, magic 5 no damage dealer or fly. Thanks for the game!

Shakti joined, and I decided not to take a restart (which turned out to be a mistake). As a result, everything went wrong from the very beginning: I scouted almost half the map, but the only objects were three extremely inconveniently located hives, and they were also guarded by incredibly tough enemies due to the artifacts placed nearby. Plus, there was a fountain that gave 10-19 red dragons, which I could only capture at the beginning of the third week, and a single resource node, which took several days to reach from the nearest castle, traveling through rough terrain. My opponent had several resource nodes with 11 angels and wings.

Shakti joined, and I decided not to restart (which, as it turned out, was a mistake). As a result, everything went wrong from the very beginning: I scouted almost half the map, but the only objects were three extremely inconveniently located hives, and they were also guarded by incredibly tough enemies due to the artifacts scattered nearby. Plus, there was a town that cost 10-19 red dragons, which I could only capture at the beginning of the third week, and a consolation unit, which took several days to reach from the nearest castle, traveling on rough terrain. My opponent had several consolation units with 11 angels and wings.
Thanks for the game!

confirm - bad start for me, lost all my army in the first week in blocks, didn't restart - I think I played badly, but then I kept going without roads and got a town. In the second week, I took a risk because I didn't have enough troops and gold, and I got two consolation angels. In the end, in the second week, I had 5 angels, got 6 more in the third week, and started Utopia - my opponent said gg.
Thanks for the game.

In the tavern, Luna + Tazar, but a gap of 3 heroes — decided to play. Few resources, not much gold either, but 2 experience resources — leveled Luna, spotted an external dwelling of Air Elementals and a Griffin Conservatory (2). Due to money issues, spent a long time digging; by week 1 day 2 on Luna, got 8th skill — took the Griffin Conservatory. Around this time, I noticed the opponent had taken a second town, not the neutral AI's, and also that their respawn was next to mine on the surface. Couldn't build Birds — on one of the days, I lacked the resources for the upgrade. Decided not to touch the Necromancer AI, only took their Griffin Conservatory near the underground crossroads — turned out to be a level 3 dwelling, taken by Luna without issues. Reached the crossroads — saw all further passages nearby, plus a Griffin Conservatory and a Hive. After taking the Griffin Conservatory, decided to split the army — Tazar went to clear one center with fodder, Luna with 2 Angels to burn the other center. Tazar stumbled upon the enemy's village in the center, even though the guards hadn't been broken — the guard moved somewhere or the passage glitched. Luna, meanwhile, found 2 more Griffin Conservatories and 2 Hives — took them without issues. From scouting ahead, I saw that the opponent was moving their army away from me + their hero stats were standard against Tazar, roughly 5 15 7 7 — decided to press on. Around week 4 day 3, took the opponent's main town almost without resistance. The opponent had no towns left. On week 4 day 5, built up to Mage Guild level 4, didn't get Town Portal, decided it would take too long to ferry the army back from Luna (about 2-3 days) and attacked the opponent.
My 6 Birds, 5 Angels, 25 Demons (Pandora's Box), ~10 Earth Elementals, ~30 Air Elementals, ~8 Mind Mages against ~550 Skeletons, 5 Angels, 11 Liches, 5 Wyverns, and a few Vampires. Stats 5 15 7 11 against roughly 5 5 5 5. The final battle turned out in my favor.
Thanks for the game.

In the tavern of Moandor, the roads are fast, next to the town there is a big Griffin Conservatory and two crypts - we play. Gathered from the first computers - Necropolis, Tower, and Dungeon. Planned an angel rush, but the Dungeon hero killed my scout hero, forcing me to buy another one; in the end, I was 700 gold short of a full trade, but the Dungeon had an external Minotaur dwelling near their town that they had already built, so I took the dwelling and built a portal.

On day 121, grade 17 Minotaurs and off to the Griffin Conservatories. Took 2+3 and rushed into a promising underground treasure zone (I saw two others - on lava and sand - from scouting views, and they weren't impressive). In the treasure zone, I collected Dragon Fly Hives, found a КЗ, and by day 126 I already broke a Dragon Utopia next to the Necropolis player. Got +10 crown and boots. At home, I build angels. At the start of week 3, I take two more Dragon Utopias in the underground treasure zone, they gave decent stat boosts, but there is no air control.

On day 132, I burst into the center and reach the Pandora's Box for the greys, giving me all of week 5. I see from a scout view that on their turn, Kyrre is also entering the center. And just then my air skill leveled up to catch them. The tavern showed a gold advantage all game, stats roughly equal ±20, I have 300+ mana, +4 speed. I have with me 50 Dwarves, 30 Grand Minotaurs, 7 Angels, 500 Skeletons, 1+14 Greater Gorgons, and 70 Marksmen. Kyrre has 6 Angels, 30 Dwarves, 4 Cavaliers, 17 Grand Elves, and single Pegasi. With Mass Haste, I take out the Angels, Cavaliers, and some Dwarves; in response, Armageddon flies in, and Kyrre buys back on 11 Dwarves. I have 5 Minotaurs, 2 Angels, 300+ Skeletons, and 30 Dwarves left. I take a nearby Dragon Fly Hive and stay there.

On their turn, Kyrre captures my capital and upgrades in it. Town Portal to the Dungeon, buy all the throwaway creatures and attack. Just in case, I took Ballistics in the last slot, and the Dwarves have Anti-Magic, so I fear nothing. I attack, and there is even a red power push, followed by a surrender. Thanks for the game.
