The first long-awaited tournament on mirror templates

Spirit and idea of the tournament

Since the times of VT, everyone has been expecting an adaptation of mirror templates for SoD. And now it has happened. Here there is minimum room for "luck" and maximum opportunity to demonstrate your "skill".
Forward!

The tournament prize pool is 15000р. For first place – 8000, second – 4000, third – 2000, and 1000 rubles will go as a people's choice award.

I. Registration and Regulations:
a) The tournament starts on July 17, 2015.
b) Registration is open until July 16, 18:00 MSK.
c) The tournament bracket and system of conduct will be determined after registration closes depending on the number of participants.
d) In the event of a large number of registrants, a bracket option will be chosen to conduct qualifying games in the shortest possible time and weed out most participants so that only truly experienced players participate in further struggles and the tournament does not stretch over time.
e) To participate in the tournament, it is necessary by the end of registration to have at least 5 played and confirmed games on ХВ. Also, recently registered ХВ members who do not meet the requirement for the number of played games may participate if they are sponsors of the tournament (contribution of at least 1000 rubles to the fund) and have no past violations of portal rules.
f) The group stage deadline is until 31.08.2015.
g)The upper and lower bracket finals are played bo3 (one match diamond + h3dm1, if a 3rd match is necessary, a coin toss).
The Grand Final is played bo5, with a score of 1-0 in favor of the player from the upper bracket.

II. Rules and Templates:
a) By default, games are on version HoTA (1.3.8)+HD-mod with the HW-Rules 1.34 patch connected; by agreement, opponents may play SoD.
b) Color and the right to choose a hero are negotiated (therefore red-rush is allowed). First, castles are determined (in the case of mirror templates, it is the same), then negotiations for color and hero follow alternately.
c) Each player has the right to cross out 1 undesirable castle, as well as 1 hero before the start of negotiation for them (may choose not to use this right), after which a ban on these castles is set in HW-Rulz mode and a random 1-castle generator is launched. The game will be played with this castle.
d) The template for the game is chosen from two existing "mirrors": "mir_Diamond", "mir_h3dm1" by agreement; if an agreement cannot be reached, the choice is made by a coin toss in hw-rulz. 1 - h3dm1, 0 - mir_Diamond.
e) "Hit-and-run" is prohibited.
f) There is 1 subjective restart and objective restarts (restart due to a block (inability to leave the castle) or a severe generation bug).
g) Roads are medium.
h) It is forbidden to steal anything other than resources and chests from guards that have been shifted, or to visit objects (except mills) that do not have their own internal guards.
i) The use of diplomacy is prohibited except for paying off enemies.
j) Game timer is chess: 21+8,30+1,15. Starting difficulty - 160%.
k) Use of in-game bugs described in the rules on ХВ and various kinds of cheat codes is prohibited.
l) The main rule is game ethics and a respectful attitude toward the opponent.
m) Everything that is not forbidden by the rules is allowed.
n) For SoD, any building is allowed; however, in captured villages and towns, building an additional necromancy amplifier is prohibited, except in the starting town.
o) ДД no more than 1 time per day regardless of the "Air" skill level.

III. Organizational Issues:
a) The tournament is unofficial.
b) The tournament is conducted according to the Rules for organizing, conducting, and participating in HOMM3 online tournaments.
c) Tournament leaders and judges – Redwhait HP (658339987), KobRa_RR (286406830), Toganash (564224919). Chief judge - Dirty_Player (ICQ 408722873).
d) Leaders have the right to make any changes to the regulations and rules during the tournament, as well as the right to refuse participation to any player without a public explanation of reasons.
e) For each played game, participants must submit a report and confirmation.
f) Saves of all games must be kept until the end of the tournament and presented upon the first request of the tournament leader or judge.
g) The judicial decision is made primarily based on the tournament rules. If the situation that arose is not regulated by the rules, judges are guided by basic logic and game ethics.
h) All tournament games go into the seasonal rating. Reports and confirmations are written in this thread and will be copied to the "Online game reports and their confirmations" thread.

Good luck, and may skill win!!!

P/S: And let's just stop discussing things that aren't worth it. The tournament is registered, the conditions are perfectly clear. The organizers are happy to see everyone who wishes to join; I ask others to demonstrate tolerance and politeness toward the choices of others.
Everything you're doing is fine; you gathered them, the money is effectively yours, you're organizing it, so only YOU decide which version there will be. Even though for me HotA is not "con," I still believe that this is the promotion of the Heroes community and its development in general :smile02: :smile02: :smile02:

Well, in theory, it’s all easily resolved by moving the entire thread about the X*ta to another part of the forum, while we quietly play our little tournaments and Fanock games on the version we all love. Let them do whatever they want over there.

Well, sorry, Dan) Is our section on the HeroesWorld portal really called "Heroes III SoD"? It’s just "Heroes III." So the tournaments here rightly have the right to exist on any version, all in one place :).

p.s. I’ll second Spilenger on the timer issue. The HL+U timer doesn’t work for a mirror. On a mirror, we always did the HT timer, just like on Jebus Cross, because that’s exactly the case where you need to polish everything to the maximum. I’m advocating for 24+8.30+1.30

Go for it!
For now, with heroes from the tavern, luck outweighs skill.

k) Game timer is chess-style: 21+8+1. Starting difficulty - 160%.
Not enough.

For now, in the tavern, luck outweighs skill for the heroes :)

It's a bit short ;)

Well, you can add a timer; you're the first one to think it's too short.

Well, a timer could be added; you're the first one who thinks it's not enough.

I played the mirror match – it definitely felt lacking, I agree about the timer.

I agree about the timer. Although I haven't played mirrored maps extensively, there's almost always something to do from the very beginning of the game, and there are quite a few challenging battles. I think increasing the timer to match the "Jebus" standards would be quite appropriate.

A huge minus for increasing the timer.
A huge plus for decreasing the timer.
Both opponents are in the most equal conditions possible. So let the ability to "quickly" (the word is intentionally put in quotes, because even with the proposed timer there is more than enough time) assess the situation or conduct a battle also matter. Otherwise, I notice more and more often that there are increasing numbers of people who love to "drink a cuuuuup of coffee" before any action.
A couple of years ago at smk they wanted to play with 10 minutes of SoD timer, now the same tendency is emerging. Enough already; the chess timer chosen as official is already way too high.

Big minus for increasing the timer.
Big plus for decreasing the timer.
Both opponents are in максимально equal conditions.

So, you are again in favor of equalizing the chances over the distance, regardless of skill? This, to put it mildly, contradicts the idea of a mirror match. Anton said it very accurately - there is always something to do and many complex battles from the start. A newbie won't be able to handle these complex things, no matter what the timer is, so a short timer is almost always beneficial for a weaker player. The exceptions are a few players I've seen, like Jurist and Dark, for example, who both play well and click as fast as Starcraft players.

[
Kostya, I won't apologize; the creators of HotA position it, as it seems to me, as a separate game and a new direction, albeit on the Heroes III engine:cool:

So, you're once again in favor of leveling the playing field, regardless of skill? This, to put it mildly, contradicts the very idea of a mirror match. Anton put it very accurately - there's always something to do, and there are many challenging battles right from the start. A newbie won't be able to handle these challenging things, no matter how much time they have, so a shorter timer almost always benefits the weaker player. The exceptions are a few players I've seen, like Jurist and Dark, for example, who both play well and click as fast as Starcraft players.
So, I'm in favor of what I wrote in my previous post.
Your approach is one-sided, although it's more likely just incorrect.
To put it in your words, newbies will spend a long time thinking about a particular action, while a stronger player will spend less time on it. Here, it should be noted that these "newbies" may not notice the paths of development and won't spend time on them, unlike a strong player (and it's not a fact that these paths of development will be correct), which results in an approximate balance. Of course, there is one exception here: this discussion would make sense if there was a real timer that would be an important aspect of the game, and not the one we have now, which, I repeat, was greatly increased to soften the transition from a SOD timer to a chess timer.
Anton put it very accurately - there's always something to do, and that's the most accurate way to put it.
It would be appropriate to ask what Anton's or your playtime is on mirror matches (specifically, the ones on which the tournament is held, and not in Wt). But again, this is not relevant to the point.
Do you see a few? We probably play with different people and in different games. The vast majority of my games end with a timer of one to two hours on both sides, despite the length of the game.
On the contrary, I know a few slow players who always run out of time.
There are many advantages to reducing the timer. This is obvious.
Most of those who ask for a longer timer are probably not asking because they lack time, but because they are afraid of accidentally leaving their comfort zone with the infamous cup of coffee, because for most people it's just a relaxing fun, and if this can be understood in seasonal games, then it's not quite right to cater to this in tournaments.

Let's move on to personal matters; there's no need for you to boast about your skill and knowledge of the game. Your results speak for themselves: :smile17:
Let me clarify what I've already said: the "Mirror" spell was created to minimize the variance in the map layout compared to the opponent, not giving enough time for detailed map analysis. This increases the variance, and your example about the time remaining at the end of the game is not a valid comparison.

First of all, the SoD timer was much more forgiving compared to the Chess timer.

Secondly, I believe there are different templates, different formats, and it's not right to compare them. For example, I like long timers, but I'll gladly play m200, where you have to hurry. On this template, just like on Jebus Cross, I think the most interesting thing is to fight a bunch of difficult battles, building up power as quickly as possible. For that, a larger timer is needed, as the current one is severely insufficient. I don't think it's interesting in this format to agree to auto-combat or not attack certain guards just because you don't have enough time on the timer.

And the whole "newbies / dads" talk is ridiculous. A newbie has no chance on a mirror match regardless of the timer.

It seems like both sides of this argument have valid points. I've often observed on streams that players can spend up to 10 minutes just analyzing the map. Naturally, this ends up consuming a significant portion of the early game timer. Later in the game, when more strategic thinking and efficient actions are required, they start clicking frantically like crafters. If the game ends quickly, this strategy can be effective. However, in a mirror match, direct contact before the middle of the second week is unlikely. After that, the faster player can take advantage of their opponent's time pressure. Overall, I think it's best to leave things as they are; you can't please everyone.
By the way, even the 4000+500 turn timer in Versus mode sometimes wasn't enough.
