"Tokyo Truth", Issue 1
Welcome to all the readers of our newspaper! Today, as usual, you can expect strange and unusual occurrences, terrible tragedies, completely unimaginable things, and the freshest local gossip. But let's take it one step at a time.Strange glowing dust surrounded the house of
Evil Lizard last night. The victim himself claimed that he experienced no distress; on the contrary, he felt peace and tranquility. Our correspondents are conducting an investigation.
An attack was carried out on
Mute Flower late at night while she was returning from the Hikawa temple. A few acquaintances say that the deceased rarely visited any establishments other than school, libraries, and numerous special courses, and they assume the visit to the temple may have been related to an upcoming difficult exam. Eyewitnesses say they saw a strange man in a tuxedo, cloak, and top hat quickly fleeing the scene of the tragedy. The suspect's face was hidden by a mask, making identification impossible. No less strange is the death of
Mute Flower – the girl's body was pierced through by a large black rose, even though it is well known that roses do not possess the necessary durability. Unfortunately, the killer left no traces.
Another correspondent of ours was slacking off from his duties at the "Crown" game club. But we will forgive him for this unfortunate incident, as he recorded a conversation that seemed interesting between a club employee and one of the visitors,
Olam Havel.
- Hi. I wouldn't advise walking the streets at such a late hour – they say some own kind of foul creatures have appeared in our city.
- Don't worry, I'm not afraid of any monsters.
- Think you can stand up for yourself?
- No, I doubt I could manage that.
- I don't know what's on your mind, but take care of yourself. By the way, you look great. New hairstyle?
- Yes. And I also got the manicure of my dreams. Beautiful, isn't it?
Unfortunately, our correspondent did not hear the rest of the conversation.
We would also like to note that we are launching a column called "Sketches from School Life." Colorful fantastic stories based on real events, written by the best employees of our newspaper! The first day at a new school began typically for Makoto – she chased away some bullies who were picking on a defenseless girl, but instead of gratitude, the rescued girl ran away screaming. Well, Mako is used to it. The girl headed toward the school – it's not good to be late on the very first day.
As Miss Kino expected, word travels fast, and by lunch break, the whole school, including the teachers, already knew that Makoto had been expelled from her previous place of study due to a fight. You can't make friends with such a reputation, so during the break, Mako tucked herself away in a far corner of the schoolyard alone and unpacked her lunch.
- Oh, what smells so delicious? Did you cook it yourself? – a high-pitched voice rang out right in her ear. Turning around, Mako recognized the same girl with two long pigtails whom she had saved from the bullies that morning.
- Y-yes, I... - Makoto hesitated slightly, not expecting anyone to simply approach and talk to her like this.
- Can I try some? Please-please-please, because I already ate my lunch while standing in the hallway for being late...
How could anyone refuse those pleading blue eyes?
- Oh, it's so tasty! – the girl plopped down on the bench next to Mako and began to devour the food with greedy same-//smacking. – Do you really-really cook yourself? You're a huge talent! I never get anything right! By the way, let's get to know each other! My name is Usagi. And yours?
- Makoto. You can just call me Mako, - Kino smiled, and then asked the question that was bothering her, - you probably know that I was expelled for fighting, and you saw that I often get into trouble... And everyone thinks I'm mean, but you... You don't think so?
- I think only fools could think that! – Usagi smiled with her whole face smeared with sauce and rice. - In my opinion, it's quite clear that a person who cooks this tastily cannot be mean! By the way, do you want to hang out tonight?
- I'd love to, - Mako smiled uncertainly.
- That's wonderful! Now I have to go, or Miss Haruna will scold me! – Usagi bolted and ran to class. Makoto noticed that a strange black cat followed her new acquaintance. When the creature turned around and stared at Miss Kino with large, intelligent eyes, the girl felt uneasy. The cat flicked its ear and vanished silently.
...Usagi was late for the meeting. It had long been dark, but Makoto didn't leave. Reason told her that her new acquaintance was unlikely to come, but her heart refused to believe it. An hour passed, then another... It was time for the girl to return home, where, however, no one was waiting for her, but Mako lingered and persuaded herself to stay for just one more minute. And her wait paid off – footsteps echoed from an alley, and soon a strange girl in high boots, long gloves, and a peculiar outfit—resembling a school uniform, a sailor suit, and a figure skater's dress all at once—ran straight up to Miss Kino.
- Mako, you waited for me! Sorry, I was delayed a bit, I had some things to do! – the stranger laughed nervously... Where could Makoto have heard this laugh before?
- Sorry, who are you and how do you know me? – Kino wondered.
- Mako, can't you see? It's me... - the girl looked at herself, gasped, and waved her arms desperately with an incoherent "you-didn't-see-me-forget-it-seemed-to-you-it-doesn't-matter!!!"
But it was too late. Those blue eyes, that high-pitched voice, the mischievous smile, long hair gathered into neat odango...
- Usagi? Is that you? But what?.. How?.. Why?..
- Um, I... It doesn't matter... Ha-ha-ha...
- Usagi, it seems there is no point in hiding from her, - a voice came from somewhere below, and Mako felt the touch of soft fur against her leg, - I remember her. Now, protector of the princess, take this scepter and help us cleanse the Earth of evil!
A smooth object in her hand... A greenish glow enveloping her body... A burning symbol on her forehead, filling her with a new, unusual, yet strangely familiar power...
It seemed as if the transformation lasted an eternity, but when Makoto's feet in new laced ankle boots touched the ground, she realized that less than a second had passed. Usagi and the talking cat looked at her with admiration and joy, then the girl with odango jumped up to Kino and pulled her into a hug.
- This is so great!!! Now my friend Mako will not only feed me her delicious dishes but also help save the world!!!
