the problem is that I downloaded all the updates for Heroes of Might and Magic V from the website...
I installed all the patches except the last one, 2.01.
It just won't install. It says: << Update cannot be installed. Please install the game and then install this update. >>>

What should I do? I've already reinstalled it... but the same thing happens again....

I had the same problem. I tried and tried, then gave up. And I didn't even ask for help. So, there are two of us now, please help us!

A rather general question: has anyone installed the patches if they have DirectX 10 on their computer? Because the game itself installs, but the patch doesn't.

Patch 2.1 is intended for the "Hammers of Fate" add-on and cannot be installed on the original game.
2 Fireball, and the game is a licensed version... My friends had no problems installing it on Windows 10.

I have licensed copies of both Heroes 5 and Hammers of Fate. During installation, it complains that it cannot find a certain d3dx9_25.dll file, which I suspect is from DirectX. My DirectX version is 10 (not 9, as it's looking for), because I have Vista installed.

Send me a private message, and I'll send you the file and tell you where to put it. Someone else had this problem before, and that's how they solved it.

It seems that the Vista version of DirectX 10 doesn't have full backward compatibility with DirectX 9c; I hadn't noticed this issue with previous DirectX versions... The problem was resolved by simply installing DirectX 9c from the standard distribution over DirectX 10. This didn't affect the functionality of Vista itself, and version 2.1 started running.
