Vladimir Konovalov
Vova was born in the capital of the great Tirian Empire – Tsarigrad, but don't envy him just yet, as he was born into a commoner's family. And although his life is in no way comparable to that of ordinary citizens of other provinces, he always believed that he deserved more, that he was destined for a different life. His father worked as a servant for a nobleman, cleaning his shoes, helping him dress, and making his bed – and he was proud of his position. "If my father, your grandfather, could see me now," he would say to Vladimir, "he wouldn't believe that it's possible to rise so high. It's a pity he died at the age of 46 from cirrhosis of the liver." After these words, Vova clearly understood what he wanted to become. He wanted to be a police officer.
Why exactly? A young man who doesn't want to work for a master and has no money in his pocket doesn't have many options – the police, the army, or a craft. The latter was immediately ruled out, as in Vova's eyes, it was just another form of working for a master, and in the army, there was too much risk of dying without ever rising above the rank of private – so the police remained, or, as it was called by the people, the "mentura." How much meaning was in that word for Vladimir...
He began his career as a simple patrol officer, spending his days writing fines for illegal parking and jaywalking. This could have continued for many more years, and Vova's dreams of a good life would have withered before they even had a chance to bloom, if not for a chance encounter – a large-scale operation to capture a gang of criminals was carried out in his patrol area, and ordinary patrol officers were brought in to support the "Alpha" unit, which was conducting the operation. And he was lucky once again – it was his bullet that killed the notorious crime boss, Tokha the Fat. For this, he received praise from his superiors, an immediate promotion, but most importantly, career advancement. Now he was an investigative officer in the criminal investigation department, and this promised many opportunities. His superiors could not help but admire their decision to appoint Vova to this position – he immediately began to solve many cases that had previously been considered hopeless, personally participating in arrests involving risks to his health, and much more. What they didn't know was that Vladimir knew exactly where it was safe to make an arrest and where it wasn't, who could be framed, and who should only be threatened, who to extort money from, and who to do a favor for – and therefore, he always had enough money. Of course, this couldn't continue indefinitely, but when Vova was caught, the officer who uncovered his dark dealings didn't report him to his superiors. Instead, he transferred him to his unit – the "Alpha" unit.
Every police officer in Tsarigrad had heard of this unit. Many ordinary citizens of Tiria had heard of it. It was an elite police unit for fighting particularly dangerous criminals. Special privileges. Special assignments. Only a special attitude from those around him. It was everyone's dream... Vladimir gladly accepted the offer and soon began intensive training for service in "Alpha." Recently, one of the medics in the unit had died, so Vova was trained as a close-quarters combat specialist (using firearms, of course) and a field medic. There were also rumors of a reform of the police forces – supposedly, from September 1262, energy weapons would be introduced into the police, but they needed to be trained to use them now. As a member of the elite unit, Vovan was also trained in this. Several months passed in happy service, when suddenly Vladimir's personal utopia was cruelly shattered. Vova received a warning from a pretty employee of the Internal Security Service, whom he was considering marrying, that there was a rat in the ranks of "Alpha" and it was too late to try to get rid of it – only he could save himself. As soon as he learned that everything was about to end, he immediately bought a ticket to Nevermore, took his standard-issue weapon – a pistol and an assault rifle – and all his cash (he didn't dare sell his property – every minute could be fatal), and within a few hours, he was comfortably traveling on an express train from Tsarigrad to Nevermore.
Upon arriving in the technological capital, Vladimir learned that the "Alpha" unit had been disbanded, and its former employees were charged with the following: 43 cases of robbery, 29 cases of extortion, 31 cases of smuggling, 68 cases of abuse of power, 12 cases of torture with aggravating circumstances (torture of prisoners), 6 cases of premeditated murder, 1 (one) case of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer resulting in his death, and the organization of a criminal community. Shrugging his shoulders, he decided to look for a new job – and learned that Thant Technologies was looking for new employees.
