It's not because you're being killed, but because you have no choice. The players are simply presented with a fait accompli: "You're going to die, you can't escape (I came up with an excuse and tied you to the bed) in any way, except for the unwillingness of other players' characters to kill you (and they have no reason to, besides, they can just send other guys after you)." I don't see the point in playing when such conditions arise. The very reason for the killing also raises serious concerns. You know what I mean.
Arandor was also presented with the fact of his death, and he didn't complain (much).
