Posts from Nomination for "Player of the Year 2013"
Player 2013
Maybe CIS is a good indicator for you?
Alex deserves to participate, but he won't win, people like other players more.

Before CIS-2013, I thought that Alex was just one of the top players, capable of doing roughly the same as the others, but at the same time more focused, assertive, and goal-oriented, hence the results.
But, after watching his replays, I realized that the difference between him and the other top players lies in their knowledge and understanding of the game - giving away 2-3K for a color from the start, he managed to maintain the pace or even take the lead from the very first days, develop no worse, or even better than his opponent by the end of the first week, and noticeably overtake him in power, hero development, and explored territory in the second week.
Each time, he planned a red rush on 131, and he bought the color specifically for it, but in reality, he didn't have to red rush, his army was stronger even without it.
Therefore, I think that in mirror matches (both in Wargames and hypothetical SoDs), Alex will give a hard time to all three of the aforementioned players. Not with a clean sweep, of course, but with a noticeable advantage, approximately 2 to 1.
Specifically regarding the players:
- Maretti plays too safely, tries to score a goal, starts attacking a day or two later than necessary. That is, he doesn't lose games on his own, but he doesn't use the temporary advantage in development effectively enough.
- Stinger, to put it in chess terms, "makes too many moves" - makes quick, superficial moves, which is why he often loses small things despite having a correct strategic plan. This is good for blitz, but not very good for long control. And sometimes he "misses" things, doesn't take into account fatal coincidences or hidden reserves of the opponent, here the situation is the opposite of Maretti.
- I can't say anything about Homunculus, I've only seen a couple of his games.
As for Alex, I don't see any obvious weaknesses in his playing style, he is strong in all components.
And considering the frequency of training, this trio plays more often, and skill in any cyber game is training and constant grinding. A very simple example is Antonha Hellight, he would say the same thing. I think he took this trait from Dota :)

It's clear that there are three leading players, but none of them has a significant advantage. We could resolve this with a vote, but I have an idea: a tournament featuring Stinger, Maretti, and Gomunguls – each playing two or three games against each other. This would definitively determine who is the best, and it would be incredibly entertaining for the viewers. I could take on the organization.
Regarding the competition, I'm all for it! :D
I'd like to offer an objective assessment: GoD and Stinger! I don't even think about comparing them; I'll just highlight their achievements this year. Zhenya won two major tournaments (Jebus and Lyubimchiki), and Artem also won two tournaments (2v2 and First Snow, and he played in the final of Jebus). As for Maretti, he plays well and has many victories, but most of them are against weaker opponents (in my opinion), and he doesn't have as many victories as GoD and Stinger.

I'd like to offer an objective opinion: GoD and Stinger! I wouldn't even consider comparing who is stronger; I'll just mention their achievements this year. Zhenya won 2 major tournaments (Jebus and Lyubimchiki), and Artem also won 2 tournaments (2v2 and First Snow + he played in the Jebus final). Regarding Maretti, yes, he plays well, and he has many victories, but most of them are not against strong opponents (IMHO) + you can't compare him in terms of the number of victories, because GoD hasn't posted many victories this year, and Stinger doesn't seem to have many either.
I think you'll agree with me that right now there are roughly top 5 players who constantly win something and play at approximately the same level, and depending on who has won more titles this year and been more active, that's who should be awarded this title.

ATG also has its drawbacks, but people who care about it simply don't notice them!
And considering the frequency of their training, this trio plays more often, and skill in any esports game is about training and constant grinding.

Also, in my opinion, =Stinger=, GoD, Gomunguls, and HellLighT deserve recognition for obvious reasons that have already been mentioned many times.
P.S. Regarding the "battle" to determine the strongest, it's meaningless, in my opinion. This is a summary of the year 2013, and it's being done by the viewers. The players have already done what was required of them in 2013.
If speaking for myself, here's a little list:
=Stinger= - in all likelihood, he will be the Player of 2013. Even despite the fact that he plays little in the seasonal cup and doesn't shine with victories, while for newcomers the seasonal cup is usually the benchmark. Just a wonderful player and person.
Maretti - this is Maretti. Overall, I agree with Wicca's wording, but that in no way diminishes his merits. Good, confident, clear play. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins, though his drive has waned a bit this year.
Gomunguls - guilty as charged, I haven't watched his stream or played with him in over a year, but from what I can tell, Vitalya really is a top HeroesWorld player now. Sure, these days almost everyone is "local," but to be fair, back in the inter-portal days, out of the three mentioned, it was Gomunguls who played for us; the others played for their own resources. But even with home-field advantage, I don't particularly believe in Vitalya winning for the second year in a row.
HellLight - hasn't quite managed to solidify his top-tier status yet, but he made a strong entrance this year. :) If he keeps it up, he could easily become Player of 2014. As for 2013 - I'm not sure.
GoD - I'd like to say a word about this guy. Zhenya is something of a dark horse - he posts reports reluctantly, barely participates in forum squabbles, but despite that, he's a very skilled player; just too modest, I suppose. :) I remember that even 2-3 years ago, every game against him was very tough; back then I still underestimated him a bit, but he quickly showed what he's capable of. He has enormous potential, and his victories in Favorites and Jebus Cross came as no surprise to me at all. Although, due to his "low profile," he can hardly compete with the candidates already listed.
twaryna - I remember last year everyone wanted to nominate him for both Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year, primarily because of his charisma and streams. But this year, people have already had a taste of quality broadcasts, and it no longer seems so novel. We'll see if the stream army can secure him the win, though purely my (superficial) opinion is that Sanya relaxed a little toward the end of 2013.
Also, these are worthy of participation here:
Amiloo, even despite his "departure" mid-year
Javdet - a regular :)
KobRa_RR - couldn't leave him out :)
and well, I'd probably also throw in the once-disfavored Juristis - decent progress, seems like a promising guy.
P.S. Regarding the "battle" to determine the strongest player, it's pointless, in my opinion. This is a summary of the year 2013, and it's being done by the viewers. The players have already done what was required of them in 2013.
So, these battles are intended for the viewers. If the audience asks for an encore, why not? "Pointless" refers to a poll where the difference between first and third place will be just a few votes, in my opinion. Such a victory is unlikely to be meaningful. Or maybe I don't quite understand the essence of the nomination? Isn't it about the player who is the most skilled and lucky? If not, then of course, you can vote based on personal preferences.
GOD, Hell - I have nothing against them, but at that time, three players stood out in the voting, and I objectively agree with that. A tournament with 4+ people, playing best-of-two, can drag on for a couple of months, and best-of-one is not objective. So, a vote is better.
Alex is definitely great, but he has faded into the background and remains there to this day. (Besides, there is a very strong player, Medium, who has also disappeared recently.) The lack of public speaking skills won't give him a chance to win in a vote, and his statements, both to me personally and on the forum, that he no longer plays online tournaments, served as a reason for me not to include him in the potential "friendly" match. Maybe he will write his own thoughts on this. You can't be great in absentia forever:smile50:

Indeed, strong and skilled. There will be other nominations for the rest.
Luck and skill are demonstrated in tournaments, but here it's specifically the audience's favorite award.
2Juristis, just to make it clearer for you: strong and skilled, according to the viewers. Is that okay?
