So, according to eyewitnesses and participants: indeed, someone in power tried to implement a very aggressive scenario, a kind of "Putin-style" intimidation tactic. The flaw in the script was that the more primitive the mind, the more likely it is to judge others based on itself (it's quite obvious that the garbage that rises to the top has a primitive mind). In other words, when they planned to harshly suppress the regular Euromaidan (where students might have been hanging out for the infamous sausage and bread), they assumed that the people would be as cowardly as they themselves were. And after the exemplary demonstration on state TV channels, showing how the brutal Berkut chased people down alleys and beat them almost to death, without even bothering to distinguish between student protesters and random passersby, the reaction of the masses was not that of a cowardly mob, but a very human reaction.
