Posts from What is better: traditional medicine or pharmaceuticals?
Thankfully, new methods for fighting diseases are being developed. But some surgeries and medications are very expensive. Not everyone can afford them. Therefore, it is necessary to follow the news, read newspapers, and browse the internet to learn about epidemics and do everything possible to avoid getting sick. After all, illness always strikes unexpectedly.
Yes, that's true. However, there are cases where traditional medicine is better. And by the way, are you a doctor?
No, I'm not a doctor. In general, with our current healthcare system, everyone should be a bit of a doctor themselves – or constantly consult with good medical centers, and we have quite a few of those in Moscow... but in most decent institutions, the services are paid. I would like to clarify my position: I personally use medicines only for pain relief, and I treat colds and other minor ailments with simple methods, such as drinking plenty of hot liquids, honey (by the way, it's a natural antiseptic – better than any cough syrup), herbal remedies, and so on. And in recent years, I've almost stopped taking any medication at all; everything goes away very quickly – probably because I tell myself: I don't have time to be sick! :smile03: But still: serious illnesses require serious treatment! Try to cure meningitis with herbs – I'd like to see that... It all comes down to doctors and their qualifications. I had a case in my own family: my father's doctor prescribed such strong medications for otitis that he developed problems with his pancreas. But switching to treating it with compresses and hot tea is not the answer either! He simply found a good ENT specialist, and in general, he won't set foot in our "beloved" free clinic again... Another example: many people immediately start taking fever-reducing medication when their temperature is above 37.2. But fever is a way for the body to fight! Many viruses die when the temperature rises. Therefore, it's better to endure the fever (if, of course, it doesn't completely knock you off your feet) and let nature defeat the disease. And what does a doctor called in from the clinic do? As a rule, they prescribe fever-reducing medication – "just in case"... In general, you could write essays on this topic for a couple of pages. In short, my opinion is this: neither medicine nor traditional methods can replace each other. And both can seriously harm – one by "over-treating," and the other by under-treating, up to a very sad outcome...

By the way, there's a recent example to support your words: about three years ago, there was an outbreak of meningitis among children in Moscow and the Moscow region. For those who are blissfully unaware, let me explain that the mortality rate for meningitis is up to 50%. Even modern medicine doesn't always cope with such a complex area as diseases affecting the brain. BUT! There is a vaccine against meningitis (or rather, against some of its forms)! However, doctors don't encourage anyone to get it – because meningitis is not a very common disease... You should have seen how quickly that vaccine was bought up during that epidemic! And those who researched medical literature or the internet beforehand got vaccinated in advance – it's better to spend money on a vaccine than on a funeral...
