Happy New Year 2007 to all you monsters!

Attention!
I invite everyone who wishes to take part in an OFF-LINE TOURNAMENT
For the game «Heroes of Might and Magic IV» played on the map «Deep forest»
The tournament starts today (01.01.2007). The goal of the tournament is to capture all cities.

Tournament Rules:
1. The game is played ONLY on the version Heroes of Might and Magic IV: Winds of War.
2. Using cheat codes during the final Walkthrough of a save is prohibited.
3. Restarting or any other modification of the starting save is prohibited.
4. Entering a boat without losing a turn (using the spacebar) is prohibited.
5. The use of "completely Dead external dwellings" on the battlefield is prohibited.
(I will explain in more detail what this is for those who don't understand: I consider a "Dead external dwelling" to be
a COMPLETELY closed area, for example with rocks or logs, which contains
a small island for a unit, such as a fairy, harpy, vampire, etc.
That is, a place that cannot be entered by land by a unit of the smallest
size (3x3) and can only be accessed by air—a kind of natural fortress. Having such an external dwelling, one fairy could beat a hundred Black Dragons and win an impossible battle; to avoid such situations, I prohibit "Dead external dwellings" in this tournament.)
6. EVERYTHING ELSE IS PERMITTED.
(Full use of grave technologies including raising the corpse of a hero
using the spacebar, leveling up the corpse on crystals, wheels, and establishments,
acceleration, splitting armies for transport through gaps, an unlimited number
of heroes on the map beyond eight, and so on.

A "not dead external dwelling," or more accurately a semi-open one, is permitted in this tournament.
By a semi-open external dwelling, I mean a place where a unit or Hero can
enter on foot, while the attacking monsters, regardless of their size, must be able to reach the Hero or unit to strike them (the point of a semi-open external dwelling is to limit the number of monsters attacking you simultaneously). Besides, it's not right for a Hero to hide in an external dwelling while the enemies are wasting themselves on whatever. Our Heroes fight with open visors.

In this tournament, results are evaluated with priority given to time—i.e., the faster, the better. Then come points and gold.

Official end date of the tournament 25.02.2007. UPDATED
Winning saves can, of course, be sent earlier—that is, at any time—but
no later than the official deadline.

Requirements for the final save:
1. The final save should require only one action from me for victory (pressing the auto-battle button if victory in the game is achieved by winning a battle, or pressing the end turn button if victory is achieved by passing the turn).
2. The save should be named with your nickname and the number of days spent on the
Walkthrough, for example: (ZveroBoy18, where ZveroBoy is the player's nick and 18 is the number of days); it is also highly desirable to compress the save with WinRar before sending.
3. I ask all participants to make and keep saves at the end of each game day and after every ambiguous battle (1 hero against 100 angels, 1 fairy against 300 monsters ...)

Please send winning saves here: ZvereBoy@mail.ru

The final list of results will be posted on March 3-4. Also,
the winner will be required to provide a day-by-day description of the Walkthrough.
It would also be good if the monsters who decide to take part in
this tournament notified me by email in a couple of lines or left
a message in this forum thread, so that I can publish an approximate
list of participants to further fire the imagination of our esteemed audience.

Well, that's all; download the starting save and good luck in the game!

If you have any questions, write them here, I will answer.

Answering questions:
Generally, "external dwellings" are essentially an unfixed game bug and introduce a severe imbalance into the combat system, which is why I want to hold the tournament in more natural combat conditions—let's see what comes of it. Using a forbidden external dwelling, for example, one could easily wipe out the Nomads hanging around the "Mercenary Camp" on the first day by hiring a Necromancer with the Poison spell, and at the same time take out Tigers and wolves in the "Wooded Glen" by poisoning the monsters and hiding in an external dwelling that neither nomads nor tigers can enter because they are larger than the Hero. So try dealing with the monsters face to face without an external dwelling; there is a lot of pleasure in that too.

I also forgot to announce immediately that it IS PERMITTED to discuss the possibilities of completing this save in real time—that is, right during the tournament you can express your thoughts on strategy and tactics development in this forum thread. For example, if someone wishes, they can describe their actions for, say, the first game day (Something like: Sandro leveled up to 6, Level 2 Death Magic studied, Leprechauns and Fairies wiped out, Golden Armor obtained,
18 gold coins accumulated, and so on). Why is all this needed?
Usually, on Hero resources, discussing current tournaments is forbidden. To me,
it always seemed that playing alone is a bit boring, which is why I want
participants to exchange their thoughts; this is useful for sparking interest in
Heroes-4 among beginning players and, accordingly, for attracting them to the game.

I'll give it a try.
The battle is very difficult. You need to lure two squads of medusas forward so that the skeleton squad strikes first at one of the medusa squads.

Added 2 minutes later

Okay, Zhel, let's try that.:)
But I'll probably have to replay it from the seventh day.
Why from the seventh day? Otherwise, can't you complete it in 12 turns? Or what's the problem?

Why start with the seventh day? Can't you do it in 12 days? Or what's the problem?

It's possible, it might even be possible to do it in eleven days, that's why I want to try. In the current attempt, I didn't quite collect the artifacts correctly on the sea.:)
So far, all the main problems were before the seventh day, you know I'm looking for the limits...

--------------------------------------------------------

Here's a version for twelve days.
You've probably already read it, but let the other participants of the tournament take a look.

In my old playthrough, I captured the Chaos Fortress during the eighth day. At that point, it's not possible to build a Volcano Crater (an Ifrit spawning structure) in the Fortress because the Thieves' Guild hasn't been built yet, so the Ifrit option is out, but that's for the better because the Thieves' Guild is much better; they sell Mana, crossbows, and acid. On the same day, you can buy a Nature hero in the Fortress; he will immediately level up to the second Nature skill and can board the ship on the same day, which means he can start sailing to the Barbarians on the ninth day. The distance to the Barbarians is 70 steps, with the landing point near the non-sea-faring hero (Nature). The hero's movement range is 25, which means he will sail on the ninth and tenth days, and at the end of the eleventh day, he will land, and by the end of the twelfth day, he should capture the Barbarian Fortress.

I think the Nature hero should be able to handle the Gargoyles if he's pumped up with Mana. He can find a field with a tunnel, enter it, and the Gargoyle will naturally be covered in slime (I have one vial). Then, try to block the path with summoned Satyrs and somehow summon Fairies, give them speed, the Satyrs will cast Morale on them, after which they will easily defeat everyone. Keep buffing the Satyrs while they are being attacked; if necessary, use Immortality on the Nature hero until the Fairies defeat everyone. In general, I think it's possible to hold out in any case.

I took the Nature Fortress with Solmyr, one Vampire, and two Ghosts; it was easy there, the Vampire devoured everyone (so, there will be no difficulties in this case).

Sandro with the Sextant has a movement range of 40, so starting from the eighth day, he will reach the shores of Life through the vortex by the end of the tenth day (the path is approximately 104 steps), and he will reach the Fortress with the Medusas at the pier during the eleventh day; he should be able to handle that, and then there doesn't seem to be anyone particularly difficult to fight, so the twelve-day version with (Nature Hero 2) is very realistic.:)

I still think it's possible to complete the save in 11 days, or even in 10, but we'll see.:smile16:

I can't say anything. I'm shocked. Check it based on the battles.

Zveroboy, you're like a wizard! The map is definitely challenging, but I read your posts and still don't understand how to get so much mana from the Leprechauns. When Sandro is killed, I can't take the tomb because the demons are attacking, and the spacebar doesn't work.

The technique for pumping Sandro's mana with Leprechauns for OptiMAL.:)
(The battle takes place right at the Fortress gates; the idea was actually suggested by the players
Undergrounder isn't participating in the tournament due to a lack of free time, and neither is IronAxe)

First, you need to move one skeleton from the Fortress to Sandro, then move this skeleton away from Sandro, behind the Fortress. Then, with this skeleton, you can collect the Ore that lies at the Fortress gates. Next, open the Fortress menu and drag Sandro into the garrison.
Then, with the skeleton that collected the ore, stand on the spot where the Ore was lying.
After that, go back into the Fortress menu and drag Sandro and two Imps from the Garrison to the skeleton. After all these procedures, Sandro should take one step and return
to his old position; then, the Leprechauns will attack him on their own. During the battle, you need to
wait until the Imps drain all the mana from the four Leprechaun units (that's 12 units). Then, let the Leprechauns severely beat Sandro, and the battle will end, and you'll see that a tomb lies near the Fortress. Now, just enter the Fortress; Sandro will immediately revive and have full health and 52 mana instead of 40, and only one turn will be spent. If you think that's not enough mana, repeat the process again. I managed to pump up to 166 mana this way.

But, to be honest, I didn't use this ability in the walkthrough.:)

Wizard? He's a Warlock! :)
OptiMAL;65391

When Sandro is killed, I can't take the grave because they attack the imp, and spacebar doesn't work:(
Spacebar should work. Move a unit onto the grave. A window opens. The grave is in one row, the unit in another. Press spacebar so they swap places. Then drag the grave with your mouse into the unit's row.
Exit the window and the monsters won't attack the unit holding the grave. Now use another unit to lead the medic with the grave out of the encirclement :) And if that doesn't work, just take the wounded Hero, and let them kill the medic :)

That's a completely different story!:smile03: At least you won't have to constantly run back to the town. Thanks, Zveroboy.

I can't say anything :) I'm in shock :) Check the battles.

Well, Iron, today I finished the Walkthrough and managed it in 12 days:) meaning I captured the last fortress (Barbarian) at the end of the 12th day; by the way, they gave me 1703 points, but I wasn't paying much attention to the score. There were no major troubles in the battles, everything was cleared easily except for the squad of Tigers and the fairy guarding the pass to the Barbarian fortress, but even there I managed to break through with Brook (Nature2) and one fairy; although I had to burn four bottles of immortality potion and a bunch of other vials, otherwise everything is fine.:D

So now we know for sure that it's entirely possible to break the fortresses with the heroes I had at the end of the 8th day, so now I will try the (10-11) days option.

Of course, I will, but a little later, and also about another battle.
Since I'm almost finished replaying, and I'll definitely finish within 11 days. :)

Now, I'm going to try the 10-day option, and I'm a little
doubtful about it, but I'll try to complete it, and then I'll post a full
report.

Consider it submitted. Take the save file and play. Good luck!

Iron answered correctly: download the save and play, just read the
rules and play by them; if something is unclear, ask right in the thread:)

I have good news, Zhel: I managed to land Sandrik on the shores of the
Fortress of Life at the end of the ninth day, and I transferred the sailing artifacts
to the Chaos shipyard. I have four heroes sitting there in a boat: one level 3 Seafarer, two level 2 Nature-dwellers, and one level 2 Mage; all of them have full movement points. Now I'm thinking about who to send where
who should capture the Fortress of Nature and who should take the Barbarian fortress of vampires
no, actually, there's plenty of money and many different bubbles; anyway, I'll think a bit and then start the final stage of the operation for the ten-day passage. Come on, Zhel, catch up too; you need to finish your passage as well.:)

I still don't understand how you got vampires on the fifth day. Fairies join my army if Sandrik is in it. On the third day, I don't even reach the ruins because I'm standing near the sawmill with Solmyr and the fairies. And I only fight the medusas on the fifth day (without the Vampiric Touch skill). But where do I get the money from??? (I cleared the Pit on the first day; first, Solmyr stole the armor, I gave it to Sandrik, and then they went to the Pit, and after that, they went to the fairies, leaving 30 of them there.)
Why doesn't Solmyr Charm the fairies himself, but only with Sandrik?
:D
