One might think nicotine causes addiction. As a former smoker with 20 years of experience, I can confidently say that it doesn't.
I don't know how you quit, but if you don't let a smoker smoke, they will experience withdrawal, and their body will suffer without the nicotine dose. But you can live without sugar for some time, and you won't even feel it; there won't be any physical withdrawal. That's the whole difference.

Physical withdrawal is complete nonsense, psychological withdrawal, that's a different story.
Just quit – and stopped smoking. I used to smoke two packs a day – no withdrawal symptoms.
