So, it's either your favorite, or the one you'd rather not play.

This could be the case. For example, I like playing as Conflux, and people, knowing this, might specifically eliminate me from choosing it, but I still want to play. That's what this tournament is for.

I don't think it would be fair if, for example, a strong player playing as Rampart, ended up with only Ramparts in their group, then in the playoffs, and so on throughout the tournament, and this is actually a slightly exaggerated version of your suggestion.

If strong players had the motivation, it might happen that way.

But my idea is different. If you're playing as Rampart, does it matter who your opponent is playing as? (considering that they can choose any castle, based on the rules)

I'm not even talking about the fact that it's more advantageous to play as Tower against Tower than Tower against Dungeon.

Opp spent all their rests, I used 2, and we started.
90 Troglodytes at the start (with buying), Dessa in the tavern. Near the castle there is a stable, 2 crypts. Only the Troglodyte external dwelling is visible.
Guardian creature at the entrance to the underground, 100+ gr pit fiends.
At the start of the first week I take the crypts, on day 1 I take the secondary Castle. I find an eye external dwelling. Having nothing better, I decide to take it and set up a portal. Meanwhile, scouts clear everything they can; by the end of the week almost the entire respawn is cleaned out, the zone with Castle is explored, there are 2 Griffin Conservatories and a passage to the treasure zone near them. Very little gold, so 1-4 in the Citadel.
Days 1-2, after selling most of my resources, I buy up the army, totaling 45 gr eyes, 70 Troglodytes, and some single Harpies. I take the Conservatories (1 and 2) and head into the treasure zone.
Days 3-7 - in the treasure zone there are just a bunch of well-guarded useless artifacts, like the Amulet of the Undertaker. Nothing for stats.
From the good stuff, I take a ring of +1 speed, I find as many as 3 red dragon external dwellings. I take one, the other 2 are guarded by 1-4 Black Dragons and 20+ Cavaliers. Dessa levels up well, Logistics and Earth, but small stats and still little gold. Two external dwellings and a Pandora's Box guarded by 100+ gr demons remain untaken.
At the start of the third week I take the Pandora's Box, 15k experience. Dessa is level 15, expert Earth, Attack, and Ranged. I take both dragon external dwellings and head back home. Scouts ferry troops.
On day 6, with 3 Angels, 5 Red Dragons, 50 gr eyes, and single Harpies, I hit the guardian creature from my side. Stats are only 8-8-5-5. There are 120 pit fiends; I make a mistake: one of their full stacks raises demons, and I lose 1 dragon. On the other side, 100+ gr liches. And here's the epic fail: no Mass Haste, only advanced. There are 7 stacks of 20 each. I can't block them all, only 5. I sacrifice singles, they take their turn, -1 Angel. To block them all, I charge into melee with eyes under Haste. Then the liches run back and forth, hitting the dragons and angels; eyes and dragons hit the liches. I cast everything I can (unfortunately not much - magic is only level 1, and nothing damaging). I'm left with eyes, about 5 stacks, 1 full and 4 of 5-10 each. The eyes can't handle it, defeat. About 20 liches remain.
But it's already day 6, and chain pickups from the dragon external dwellings are ready.
Opp doesn't show up, and on day 7, after saving up a bit of gold and again exchanging all resources, I finish off the guardian creature and take his castle (Dessa at 3500 MP).
Some running around, a couple of scout fights, and on 147 the opp writes GG.

Hey everyone, I haven't been around for a while, and because of that, there are a lot of other tournament games that I need to finish urgently, so for now, I can only play from Monday to Wednesday from 6:00 PM and on Friday.

The distribution into brackets is not random, but rather based on the organizers' assessment of each player's skill (I was surprised, for example, that Tvarina ended up in the second bracket, and Amila in the third (if I understood the principle of group formation correctly, that's how it was)). The distribution into groups is not random; it's done in such a way that the castles don't repeat. The percentage of randomness in this "draw" remains small. I have no complaints about the organizers; I just don't see any real randomness here; the organizers did a lot "manually."

Before nitpicking about words, read the posts more carefully. I wrote that after the brackets were formed (which the organizers created at their discretion), the players were randomly distributed into groups. That is, out of 16 people, anyone could end up in any group, and so on with all 5 brackets, and it was still impossible to predict who would be paired with whom.

The initial idea of the tournament was to play with a favorite Castle that is constantly being banned. Hence the name "favorites."

"Favorite" and "banned" are two very different things, and it doesn't work anymore. Strong players are now versatile enough; they can't be banned from everything. Statistically, the most popular Castles in our tournament are also popular in other tournaments; they aren't being banned. But Inferno is rarely banned, and players don't really object if their opponent wants to pick it. So, if Inferno isn't being banned, can it still be considered a "favorite"?
We'll probably never know what ideas the tournament's original organizer, Light God, had in mind, as he has been banned for a long time, and Lub-1 finished what he started, ewgeniy.

...As for the idea of the tournament, Starhan or Light God can explain it better. I don't know what the ORIGINAL IDEA was.
