Favorite books: The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings.

Regarding the secret city – I don’t know. In my opinion, it’s just another low-budget product designed to make money. It has everything: sex, violence, intrigue… everything a typical blockbuster needs. Although the plot is not bad.

Well, Wiz, we could argue about this for a long, long time...
A film based on "The Guild" will inevitably be a "low-budget" production (like what happened with "Day Watch" – HORROR!!! PORNOGRAPHY!!! (My second self)). But the books... Yes, the first ones are action, action, action...
But "Royal Cross" and "King of the Mountain"... They're more complex, and in some ways, they resemble Lukyanenko's work (like "Lord from Planet Earth," rather than "Night Watch").

First, there was Potter (a couple of books), then (of course) The Lord of the Rings, then (as a consequence) The Ring of Darkness and all the other works by Perumov... And then came the Night Watch series.

I love books; there's so much interesting stuff in them. And especially the reflections after reading, the plot, the resolution, and the characters. From the books I've read recently:
"The Minor" - Fonvizin
"The Count of Monte Cristo" - A. Dumas
"The Mysterious Island" - Jules Verne
"Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" - Jules Verne

All except the first one, I really liked. My favorite writer is Jules Verne.

I really love Vonnegut, Hamsun, and Nabokov; among contemporary authors, I enjoy reading H. van Zijll de Jong very much. I also like C.S. Lewis, the author of "Narnia," who wrote very thoughtful theological treatises. I love old fairy tales and enjoy reading a mythological dictionary. My FAVORITE author is Tolkien! I adore "The Lord of the Rings" so much that I can't even find the right words... I also love all his other works and read his scientific articles and essays with interest.

I enjoy reading Stephen King. Currently, I'm reading Clive Barker.

Pushkin, Shakespeare, Brecht, Bulgakov ("The White Guard," "Theatrical Novel"), Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Endo, Leo Tolstoy, Andreev, Kharms, and others of the same kind...
Although, as far as I know, in literary studies, there are only five writers in world culture: Homer, Dante, Shakespeare, Goethe, and Dostoevsky.

I don't really like sci-fi.
Wow, someone here reads Pekhov. But does anyone read Cunningham?

From the classics, my favorite book is "The Master and Margarita."
Among more modern works, "The Lord of the Rings" stands out (it's already being studied in literature classes in some British schools).
In my opinion, Lukyanenko's writing quality declined after "Night Watch"; while "Twilight Watch" and "Last Watch" are interesting, the earlier books and his earlier space operas were much better.
"Night Watch" is a profitable project, but it features memorable characters, occasional philosophical depth, and a beautiful plot.
I forgot to mention James Stoddard's "High House" and "False House," which are not widely known (I found them by chance about 8 years ago), but they are excellent!

From the classics: "The Fiery Angel" by Bryusov, "Oblomov," and "The Twelve Chairs." In general, I like Robert Asprin (the entire "M.I.T.h." series), Valentin Pikul, and Maurice Druon. Right now, a friend suggested a few books by Sienkiewicz that I haven't read, and a friend gave me a book by Milan Kundera to read.

I forgot to mention Mervyn Peake’s books, especially “The Rune Sword.”

I'm currently reading Patrick Süskind's "Perfume". I haven't watched the movie, but the book is very interesting and easy to read. I recommend it :)

I stumbled upon a great book – "Lust for Life" by Irving Stone – it's about Van Gogh... :smile20:
