He has to go back the day he goes back in order to get mana and be able to take the town 131. He has to go back sooner or later anyway, since he dosent have a book. Even though he sees boots he leaves them since they are heavily guarded and he cant take them and get back the same day.
He has an exstremly good map but could still have lost if gomunguls had cared to get slow on his main and some mana too. The play is untraditional (bad) but there is no cheating here in my opinion.
You beat them easily because they are only 11 and there are no upgrades. It could be 19 with upgrades. And still he wont make it back the same day if he beats them.

Added after 5 minutes Damn it, now in Russian. Maretti thinks it was a clear plan to not take the Griffin Conservatory and head into the unknown for goodies in order to then rush. Hats off — truly a boss move.
