I couldn't install The Restoration of Erathia on XP, but when I installed it on 98, it worked perfectly on XP!

Often, when installing Heroes, if they weren't properly burned to the disc, there can be difficulties. Sometimes, this small file – a registry file – helps! Or this small crack.

I have:
the full version of Heroes 3 (on two CDs), version 4.0 (as stated in the file details)
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and DirectX 9.

During installation, the installer first says that I already have some kind of DirectX and allows me to skip installing its own, but later it says it doesn't recognize the existing one, though if I want, I can still install the game.

After installation, the game launches, but crashes very quickly, almost immediately.
I tried setting compatibility with different versions of Windows, same thing.:smile35:

The point is, some time ago it was already working on this same computer! That's what makes it so frustrating. I'm not sure if Service Pack 2 was installed back then (if that's even relevant).

I would be very grateful for any leads.

Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus (or whatever you have installed) during the installation process.

You can simply ignore the error message.

In short, the only solution for you is to reinstall Windows, including all service packs!

And in my case, the game crashed after the intro... it was so annoying!!!!!! =) And then I figured out how to disable hardware sound acceleration in DirectX... and everything was OK.

When I click "play," the disc starts, the music begins, and instead of the image, it displays "out of range." Please advise what to do. Heroes 3 is lagging? Maybe it's just the disc, perhaps it's too "legitimate"? I had problems with the licensed version of RA2: Yuri's Revenge; it simply wouldn't run!

The disc is a licensed copy, but it worked on Windows 2000.

Everything works for me, it's not a licensed copy, but a copy made with Alcohol 120%, and everything runs on XP, but on Vista, only the complete collection works, while The Shadow of Death refuses to run. :)
