The most popular winter sports are biathlon, bobsleigh, and hockey. By the way, hockey isn't entirely a winter sport; in the USA and Canada, it's played year-round – the NHL!

They play on an artificial surface (ice), the Stanley Cup starts in September and ends in May-June (2 teams), so what do you mean by year-round? Do you mean they play on ice in that condition during the summer?

No, I think there's a break there in the summer, but still, it's not like they only play in winter.

And as for Russia, you're wrong! You have no idea what goes on in the youth sports schools (DYush) and among the reserves—they practically kill each other there, and breaking into football is unrealistic, unless of course you know the right people: at first you go to some club and they tell you, "well, our squad is already well-established," but if you come with the right person, they say: "you're exactly what we need and quite promising.

I've been into it for a long time, and about 2 years ago I was offered to play for the Moscow Olympic team.

I love watching hockey (and I play it too, but very rarely, because I'm terrible at skating), and I chose snowboarding as my hobby about two years ago... although I haven't learned much in those two years... haha... :)

Okay, let’s not mention the Germans, or the whole atmosphere will be ruined, but our team was really great this year!

I definitely love figure skating... I never miss it! It's such a beautiful and powerful sport that you watch with bated breath! ;) And how our athletes performed at the last Olympics! It's just a pity about Irina Slutskaya....:(

Sorry for the off-topic, but I have an aversion to sports. Maybe because I'm bad at any kind of sport :)

I also enjoy speed skating, although Americans dominate in that sport... :(

In winter, my favorite sport is running for about half an hour in "Quake 3", then soaking my feet in a basin of warm water and playing Heroes until the buds start to swell on the trees...:):):)

I'm a fan and enthusiast of downhill skiing, and I enjoy all types! Perhaps it's because I was born and live in the heart of the beautiful Ural Mountains. And it doesn't matter what you do in these mountains – ski, snowboard, or ride on an inflatable cushion, or maybe just jump around at the bottom and meet your friends (believe me, jumping in one place is also a sport!) – it's all great!
