Okay, lionheart, I had the same issue. In the folder C:\HEROES2\, there's a folder called "install." I launched it and started just pressing "Enter" (basically, anything). Then I ran the .exe file again, and it worked.

Damn, it didn't help me either; it only works on Windows 2000 Professional.

try the previous suggestions... if that doesn't work, try installing a second system (like Win98 ME).

maybe Win98SE (there's no such thing as Win98 ME), I think they mean Millennium, but I wouldn't recommend installing it, as it's based on 98. Windows 2000 Professional is much more reliable, even though it's older, and Heroes 2 runs on it without any issues... (by the way, WinXP is based on the kernel from 2000).

Guys, to play Heroes 2 on XP, you need to change the sound settings. I felt a bit nostalgic; I remember really enjoying this game back then. Now, I had to go through so much trouble just to get it running, and in the end, I realized it's not as fun as I remembered... :D Even compared to the third game, it's a bit difficult to play; everything feels too primitive... :) In the installation file, you need to set the music to MIDI and install some drivers for digital and MIDI, and then the game will run.

I saved it and extracted it to the location you mentioned, and should I leave the main game archive on the disk?
