The book is good; I like it even more than The Lord of the Rings (which, by the way, is so popular only because it was the first of its kind). But, as Lock already said, it does get quite boring after three books.

I also find "The Witcher" more appealing; the books about it are vivid and rich, unlike the dreary pronouncements of the professor. By the way, VK is so popular mainly because a movie was made about it; otherwise, it would have remained obscure. ...Heh, I remember how we spent one or two lessons in school once getting acquainted with "The Hobbit," and subsequently, "The Lord of the Rings." I remember grimacing when I saw that thick book of gloomy fantasy... of course, back then I didn't use the word "fantasy" much, and I didn't have any particular dislike for it, but I just wasn't drawn to reading that huge tome.

There are 2 books left to read: The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake. No, at least I'm not bored yet, but the very first collection of stories made the biggest impression on me, especially "The Lesser Evil," it really touched me. I recently reread it with pleasure.

I perceive "The Witcher" as a collection of short stories. Both Sapkowski's "The Witcher" and Vasiliev's "The Witcher from Greater Kyiv" are on the same level of "good, unpretentious fantasy."

I bought the game a couple of years ago, but I only read the book in January-February of this year. By the way, the Geralt from the game is quite different from the Geralt in the book. Most of all, I enjoyed the collections "The Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny," especially the stories "The Last Wish," "Eternal Fire," and "A Little Sacrifice." The later parts of the saga are just very good adventure fantasy. And in this genre, I haven't met an author better than Sapkowski yet. The artist drew Yennefer, but his version differs from the description in the book. And she died years before the time described in the game (although, as did Geralt).

The other day, out of boredom, I was rummaging through some computer games and found a special edition of The Witcher (the first one). Inside, there was the game, an expansion pack, a world map (I love those), some extra materials, and a booklet with a story (actually, with the first chapter of the first book). I started reading it while the game was installing, and I couldn't put it down. It's very interesting. Now I'm reading the whole book.
But in the book, before the first chapter, there's an erotic scene. Why?
Why does the book have to start with that?
In my opinion, it's not the best way to attract the reader's attention; after all, it's a fantasy saga, not a collection of erotic stories.
But overall, it's very interesting.
And the game is excellent. It's incredibly atmospheric.
