Greetings, fans of Heroes Of Might & Magic IV!

I announce the start of a new online tournament for HoMM IV
"Sultry Season"!

So, summer has arrived; many have been freed from earthly chores and problems and now have some free time. And although the weather hasn't exactly spoiled us with its warmth, I very much hope that hot days are still ahead! Moreover, a lull reigns over HeroesWorld, primarily due to the ongoing 2008 World Championship. But it is time to shake up the World of Heroes! To make things heat up! And if we have to wait for the same from the heavenly office, then "Sultry Season" is arriving in the World of Heroes!

Tournament Regulations and Rules.

1. The tournament is official!
. Upon its completion, players will be awarded a rating, and the winner will receive a reward in their profile!

2. The tournament is held on HoMM IV version: Equilibris 3.51. You can Download it here.

3. Connection can be established via Hamachi (download) in one subnet:

Name:
Pora_2008
Password:
pora

4. Tournament start dates: from July 14 to September 1 inclusive!

5. The tournament will follow the scheme: "qualifying stage + final stage". Let me explain what this is.
After participant registration ends, the qualifying stage begins: all participants are divided into 2 groups. A win in a match earns 3 points. If there are 4 players in a group, then the 2 players who score the most points from each group advance to the final stage. If there are 6 or more players in a group, then 3 players with the highest number of points advance to the final stage. In the final stage, they merge into one group (The Big Cup Group) and play a round-robin system to determine the winner of the Big Cup Group. All remaining players also advance to the final stage, forming a second group (The Small Cup Group), where they will compete for the winner of the Small Cup Group. Upon entering the final stage, all points earned by players in the qualifying stage are reset!
In the final stage, the player who scores the most points wins. Thus, there will be 2 tournament winners, one for each group!

Time limit for one game: 7 days.
During this time, players must play their match and provide a report. If for some reason the game is delayed and it is impossible to fit within this timeframe, players must request an extension. The maximum extension period is 3 days. If a player does not play their game by the end of the established deadline, they are given a technical defeat.

This point has been changed for this tournament! All games must be played between July 14 and September 1 inclusive!

6. After registration is complete, a draw will be conducted in pairs using a special program to determine the red and blue player in each pair. The red player will be the first player and the one creating the game (host). If a player does not have the technical ability to be the host, they must notify the organizer before the tournament begins.

7. The map on which the game takes place is chosen by crossing out maps one by one from a general list. The first player starts crossing out maps, then the second player crosses out a map, and so on until only one single map remains.

Map List:

After the Flood (Expert, 6 min);
Battle of Underground (Expert, 6 min);
If these walls could talk (Advanced, 6 min);
Iron Man (Expert, 8 min);
Lezkandra (Expert, 6 min);
Keeper (Expert, 6 min);
Plains of Despair (Expert, 6 min);
Showdown (Expert, 6 min);
Spleen (Expert, 8 min);
Тихий Мир (Expert, 8 min);
Heartwinter (Expert, 6 min);
Eldorado (Expert, 6 min);
Insaniti (Expert, 6 min);
Охота на Рептилий (Expert, 6 min).

8. After choosing the map, players first agree on turn time and difficulty (if players cannot reach a consensus, the recommendations from the map list are used), then the second player chooses the color they will play.

9. One (or both players) may choose a random race for the game. The first player makes the choice (to play or not to play with a random race) first, followed by the second player. If one of the players plays with a random race and the other does not, the one playing with a random race crosses out two races from the opponent's list of possible playable races. The opponent then chooses their race from the remaining ones.

If both players decide not to play as a random race, the choice of races is also made by crossing them out from a list. All available races for each color are listed. In total, there are 12. After this, players take turns crossing out races until only one uncrossed race remains in each list — these are the ones they will play. During this process, one can cross out "bad" races from their own list as well as "good" ones from the opponent's list. The sequence of crossing is as follows: 1-2-2-…-2-1 (meaning the first player crosses out one position, then the second — two, the first — two, …, and finally the second — one). The second player starts crossing.

10. The first player creates the game (via gameSpy, hamachi, or standard game means — depending on the technical connection capabilities of both players).
Game parameters:
map — chosen during crossing;
game password — "yes";
guards — stationary;
turn time and difficulty — agreed upon by players after map selection (or recommended in the map list).

After the second player joins, the selected races are set and the host starts the game.

11. Both players have the right to take one restart each before the end of their first turn (before passing the turn to the opponent). To do this, it is sufficient to write "restart" in the chat and wait for the opponent's "ok" response. After a restart, the first player recreates the game with the same parameters.

12. A player is considered defeated if they lose all their cities and armies, or lose all cities and fail to capture any city in the following 3 days (standard defeat conditions).

13. It is advisable to make regular saves (for example, at the end of your turn) to resolve disputed situations that may arise during the game.

14. In case of a connection break or game crash, the last save is loaded. Players are required to exactly repeat all their moves up until the moment of the same connection break or crash.

15. If you dig up the Grail, a save with a fully opened puzzle map is required; otherwise, the action is considered cheating.

16. In case of battles between players, a stalemate situation may arise. For example, one player has 10 imps left, and the other has 100 ogres. The imps fly around the field, and the ogres cannot catch them. In this situation, the attacking side must retreat or surrender (at their discretion). If the Shackles of War artifact is used in battle, the battle should be finished in Auto-battle mode.

17. A report on the played game must be left in the thread "Reports from the HoMM IV 'Sultry Season' online tournament", which should contain the following information:

[First player name] ([race]) [def/lose] [Second player name] ([race]) — [map name], [game time of game end in "month week day" format]

18. A technical defeat will be given for violating the rules during the game. For cheating (which is, of course, forbidden) — disqualification!

19. All disputed points in the game are decided by the organizer, so I ask you to notify them of such occurrences promptly.

20. Organizers reserve the right to make any changes to the rules!

21. And one last thing! Respect your opponent! It is forbidden to use cheats, bugs, or the editor during the game! Value both your time and your opponent's! Do not avoid games and do not drag out matches or individual battles!

Anyone who wishes can sign up for the tournament; the main condition is to be registered on HeroesWorld!
To participate in the tournament, you must leave an application in this thread; the application must specify: your Nick and ICQ number!

Here's a suggestion:
Regarding a rematch.
A player who wins a rematch, i.e., defeats their opponent in a second game, thus proving they are stronger and gaining moral satisfaction, receives their three victory points in the table.
We won't apply this idea to the current tournament, as the tournament rules are announced at the beginning of the tournament. We can just discuss it here or elsewhere if needed.
Regulations:
1. Each player can have only one rematch.
2. A rematch can only be challenged against the weakest of the winners.
3. A rematch can be challenged when a player closes their table, and the opponent closes theirs.
4. All games must fit within the time limit of the championship.
5. It is forbidden to submit a rematch request to a player who has not lost a single battle! (i.e., there's no point in bothering the champion:smile38:)
6. If there is no goodwill from both sides, the request is submitted through the judges to avoid silly and absurd situations. The judge resolves disputes in favor of the stronger player.

Funny. If they win against me, they become the champion. Even with a 1-1 record in head-to-head matches. Nice. :smile42:

I understand you want to play. But still, don't change horses midstream. Start a new tournament called Revenge, and we can compete again. Why rehash something that already happened?

I have a suggestion:
I've been thinking about a rematchand decided:
the loser should have the right to a rematch...
I'll add my two cents as a NOT-impartial observer. :smile01:
Lee, a rematch sounds good, of course, but why should people devalue their victory by engaging in a new game with an already defeated opponent on unfavorable terms?
And what's the point of all this? Do you want there to be no room for chance in the tournament, and for the objectively strongest player to win? But that doesn't happen in any competition; there's always room for the human factor. Otherwise, there would be no point in playing the finals; let the AI calculate it. Whoever has the stronger army wins. However, people play finals, and in them, in addition to the player's skill, the incorrectly calculated line of sight, misclicks, and annoying distraction play a role. And whoever wins, that's it.
How many times should opponents play each other before it can be confidently stated that player A is stronger than player B? :confused: Do they rerun the 100-meter dash at the Olympics to satisfy the ambitions of the person who finished second? And this is by no means a 100-meter dash: these are not short duels, but full-fledged maps, many of which take 10-12 hours of real time to play.
In the end, it's easier to introduce an additional stage in the tournament. But in that case, the number of participants should decrease from stage to stage, as it was this time. And what you're suggesting is a round-robin system with rather strange rules: in it, it's more profitable to lose.:smile30:

It seems that problems are piling up for Oxygen like there's no tomorrow. I'll add my piece, honestly. *** Len. region. Dugout. Headquarters. As soon as the "Grand Cup" military campaign began, I immediately started planning to take first place. My rightful place. The one that suits me best. The first plan, called "Blockade," was launched immediately. It was based on prolonging games with the main contenders. A large number of points earned by defeating less experienced opponents, according to the plan, would secure my favorite spot. Incentives were also used. I announced rewards for each player for taking down Oxygen. With each of his victories, the amount increased. Thank goodness Shnurov didn't write to me or anyone else. Savings must be economical. Everything was going according to plan. I, having scored many points, watched as Oxygen's teammates pressured him. Here it is! Victory is near! But unexpectedly, Oxygen's gloves flew at me, breaking through the defenses. I dodged them for a long time and clumsily. And if it's clumsy, then one is bound to hit. So let it hit. The "Blockade" also involved technical shamanistic tricks. Deliberately slowing down the game's progress. Oxygen was supposed to lose patience. And Lu was supposed to give up first place to me... Alas... time passed... "Tough nut," I thought, and went to write a report about the defeat. In the report, of course, I admitted defeat. But not in reality. Plan "Barbarossa" was immediately activated. According to the new plan, an agreement was reached to extend the tournament's deadline. A decisive match was incentivized. And a deal was made to throw another game. Everything was ready. One cheek on the throne. In the crucial moment, my hopes were pinned on Shnurov. With his defeat, they vanished... Now, should I really give up? Absolutely not. I still have some leverage. I hadn't even had time to get out my notebook to develop Plan "Interception" when Brennus walked into my headquarters near Repino... Overly emotional, he talked about conquering the whole world... I didn't have the courage to refuse. New strategic tasks of global scale put an end to my attempt to seize a tactical position in the "Znoina Pora" (Hot Season). *** Okay, that's it. I can't keep it in anymore. Young military commander Li, the most promising, resumed the fight for "Znoina Pora." But, to be honest, I won't hide it. I can't handle another defeat by Oxygen. If I cried from midnight to four in the morning last time, how long will I cry the second time? I'm afraid to count and won't. And I'm also afraid of developing a fear of Oxygen. A second defeat in the tournament will drive me into a dead end. A psychological blow. I won't survive it.

My friends, I am in favor of communication with both revenge matches and regular matches... Initially, I didn't post the idea here but posted it in "Winter Evenings with Leshy"... it's just that my new ideas turn out to be forgotten old ones... which were rejected due to their lack of potential... and a revenge match is what you crave after a frustrating defeat... and the idea was inspired by the fact that everything has already been played, but there is no way to get a rematch... here: :smile43:

Personally, I don't like this idea at all. Lee, can you remember even one competition in Heroes or another game, or in any sport, where the winner was asked for a rematch within the same competition? I can't recall any. A rematch can be arranged in a friendly game or in the next tournament. At the same time, I think the effect will be the same! P.S. I understand that losing is hard :D, but we have everything ahead of us!!! :smile13:

Regarding rematches: 1. Not in this tournament. 2. It's all been thought of before. The system is called "double elimination" (Google it if you don't know) and allows you to win a tournament almost like in the Olympic system, with only one loss allowed. 3. If you apply this system in a single-elimination tournament, there's only one option: 1st and 2nd place compete in a match consisting of two games. The 2nd place winner must win both games to become the champion. Whether this is necessary or not is up to the organizers of future tournaments to decide. IMHO, it unnecessarily prolongs the tournament.

So, dear fans of Heroes IV, "The Scorching Season" has come to an end! All that remains is to hold a solemn award ceremony for the winners, which will take place a little later for technical reasons!
I wanted to do it sooner, but unfortunately, nothing is working out yet..
Therefore, I decided not to delay any longer, as the tournament deadline has long passed :) and announce the winners!

But first, I would like to thank all the participants for taking the time and desire to immerse themselves in the wonderful world of online battles. The tournament turned out to be eventful, interesting, and quite intriguing!
Thank you all for participating! :smile01:

I would also like to express my special gratitude to my assistants, who replaced me during my vacation and helped in organizing the tournament:
Pandora and Lars, thank you very much for your help!:smile43: :smile01:

And now I will move on to the most pleasant part, the announcement of the winners:

The winner of the tournament, who won all his battles and simply soared to the top of the podium, is Oxygen! He receives a Large Golden Cup!:smile49:
The silver medalist, who was hot on the winner's heels, making great strides towards victory, but got a little stuck on Spleen-e, is СТРАННuK!:smile12:
Bronze turned out to be intriguing and quite unexpected, as there was no personal meeting between the holders of the bronze cup, and the scores were completely unanimous, so bronze goes to both contenders: Shnurov and LordZezuk!:smile14:

And now I announce the winner in the "Small Cup" group!
The holder of the small Golden Cup, but no less valuable for it, is Lars!:smile49:
Unfortunately, there was no intrigue in our group. But it was still interesting to play, although I would have liked more battles :)

Thank you all again for participating! You made me very happy as an organizer! The tournament turned out to be cohesive, brought a breath of fresh air to Heroes 4, and a lot of positive emotions! It revealed new stars, gave an opportunity to gain experience, and turned out to be truly scorching!

Well, now I declare "The Scorching Season" over... and we will meet at "Winter Evenings!":smile01: And don't forget to come to the award ceremony ;) When everything is ready :)

Sincerely, Luchik!
