FOURTH OFFLINE HEROES OF MIGHT AND MAGIC I "CAMPAIGN" TOURNAMENT

TOURNAMENT RULES

1. To participate in the fourth offline Heroes of Might and Magic I "CAMPAIGN" tournament, you must register on our website www.heroesworld.ru and submit an application in this thread.

2. The tournament is conducted using the Russian version of Heroes of Might and Magic I from Buka. Saves will be generated on the Russian version 1.1.

3. The tournament will consist of 8 stages, as that is how many campaign maps were created by the developers. The goal of the game is to defeat the enemy or fulfill a specific condition within each individual scenario.
- Upon completion of each stage, a player rating will be awarded, which will accumulate with each subsequent successful completion of a stage.
- A reward will be given for each stage (in the profile and under the avatar), thereby providing an incentive for the player at every stage.
- The overall winner of this tournament (across all stages) receives a prize in the form of a trophy (in the profile and under the avatar).
- This is a rated tournament, so you should start earning your rating now, as the highest-rated player on our site at the end of the year will receive a separate prize in the form of an absolute winner's trophy, as well as an honorary certificate sent by mail.

4. Results will be evaluated primarily based on minimum time. If several players have identical completion times, the best will be determined by the sum of primary skills (attack, defense, magic, knowledge) INCLUDING EQUIPPED ARTIFACTS of the player's best hero; if a favorite is still not determined, then by the amount of mercury.

5. The list of prohibitions can be read in the thread:

Offline Tournament Rules + FAQ!, or on the website www.handbookhmm1.narod.ru

6. Send saves to the email address VDV_forever@BK.RU

The submitted save must contain the tournament number (4), the stage number, the participant's number in the application table, the stage abbreviation (for the first stage P - PROLOGUE), and the player's Nick.

Example:

4_1_1_П_VDV_forever.CGM

7. In case a player is suspected of cheating or other malicious intent while completing the map, it is necessary to save every game day, as well as before and immediately after a difficult battle.
In such an event (detection of cheating), the player will be required to send additional saves and provide a walkthrough description to the tournament organizer to determine whether the play was fair or unfair.
The result of a player who played unfairly will be nullified, and their further participation in tournaments will be impossible. This will also reflect poorly on their reputation.

8. Discussion of the tournament during its progress is FORBIDDEN!!!
(Players who violate this rule automatically disqualify themselves from playing the tournament; their results will not be counted and will be annulled).

9. The first stage of the tournament starts on October 6 and lasts until October 20 (inclusive!) 2007. Results will be announced on October 23, 2007.

The second stage of the tournament starts on October 23 and lasts until November 11 (inclusive!) 2007. Results will be announced on November 14, 2007.

The third stage of the tournament starts on November 26 and lasts until December 10 (inclusive!) 2007. Results will be announced on December 14, 2007.

The fourth stage of the tournament starts on January 12, 2008, and lasts until February 1 (inclusive!) 2008. Results will be announced on February 4, 2008.

The fifth stage of the tournament starts on March 13, 2008, and lasts until April 13 (inclusive!) 2008. Results will be announced on April 16, 2008.

The sixth stage of the tournament starts on May 26, 2008, and lasts until June 20 (inclusive!) 2008. Results will be announced on June 23, 2008.

The seventh stage of the tournament starts on July 7, 2008, and lasts until August 7 (inclusive!) 2008. Results will be announced on August 13, 2008.
Note - this stage of the tournament is also conducted as part of the annual Van Kanigem tournament (Stage 6 of the Van Kanigem tournament).

The eighth stage of the tournament starts on September 20, 2008, and lasts until October 20 (inclusive!) 2008. Results will be announced on October 23, 2008.

10. After your save is received, you will see in the application table that:

save accepted - indicated by a bold Nick.
save counted - indicated by a blue bold Nick.
save not counted - indicated by a red bold Nick.
This list can be expanded by new participants!
We invite everyone to participate in the tournament!

Saves will only be considered for players who are in this table, so submit your applications IN ADVANCE!!!

Dear VDV_forever, I am sending the save files in the START111.CGM archive – this is the save before the final battle. After that, it displayed a congratulatory message for winning and opened the next map, which I saved as instructed in the rules. I only had the TUTORIAL.GM1 file with the date 29.08.1995 for the *.GM1 extension, but I am sending it just in case. I have the first Heroes installed, which I downloaded from your website. Thank you in advance for your response.

Good day!

Actually, as the rules state:
4. After reaching the last action (after which the victory occurs), you need to save again.

and rename your save file according to the suggested template.

In your case, this is the START111.CGM file (i.e., it should be named 4_6_23_Andrey44_44.CGM).;

After the victory, it is not necessary to save (or send it).;

TUTORIAL.GM1 with the date 29.08.1995 is also not related to the tournament.

Thank you very much for participating in the tournament! The save has been received and will be reviewed shortly.

Sincerely, VDV_forever

I've gone through all my save files and am trying to finish what I have... I should be able to manage, it should take a couple of hours... if not, I'll send it tonight when I'm done...

Added 3 hours 40 minutes ago
Am I missing something? I thought today, or rather, almost 2 hours ago, we were supposed to send in the save files??? I just finished - those old men were a real pain with their resistance to magic.... I definitely wasted an extra hour...... and where are the other participants????...... my result is 2-4-5....

Added 9 minutes ago
The save file has been sent... for some reason, I'm reminded of a poem about a hippopotamus, a swamp, etc....

Romanuel - 22 days is impressive. I could have done it a bit faster, but 50 days. I really didn't feel like replaying it under DOS. But I wouldn't have had enough money in 22 days, and it felt a bit risky to push forward without an army.
Romanuel - and with what army did you push onto that continent? And what magic did you have?

It simply won't run any other way on Vista. Only in DOS emulation mode, without sound, in a small window. It's that bad, but since it's my favorite game since 1996, I can put up with it.

Romanuel - 22 days, that's impressive. I could have done it a bit faster, maybe in 50 days. I didn't feel like replaying it on DOS. But if I had 22 days, I wouldn't have enough resources, and pushing forward without an army seemed a bit risky.
Romanuel - and what army did you use to attack that continent? And what magic did you have?
In general, I also ran into resource problems, but fighting in that situation with an army seemed like a dead end. I'll look for my archive and post it. I'm shocked, to be honest - where are the others? My completely relaxed save in 3-1-1 would also have been a winner!!! And I was already crawling towards the end - I was just tired, no words... either the morale of the computer's unit was low, or the dwarves ignored magic... in general, the main trick is to cover the birds with a rockfall along with the other units. To do this, push the flying units from a certain point.

eeeeee..........you need to rename the *.zip file to 7z and unpack it using 7-Zip....in general, that's what I thought – if I even manage to take 1st place, it will only be due to a lack of participants....and besides, I missed the 5th stage of the King's Bounty tournament!!!! I just didn't think they would make it less than 30 days...I checked for saves today, and it was already over – the results were being calculated....now I also have a vacation, during which I have to work even more than at my regular job (renovations {vulgar}), so I'm all for a couple of weeks of break...

Listen, I'm actually curious... go ahead and write how you suggest running Heroes I on Vista?

Well, it seems like only you and I passed this stage of the tournament. Thanks for the save, I'll take a look at it at home.

Question for VDV_forever, will there be any more Heroes I tournaments held before the end of the year?

Listen, I'm actually curious... so, how do you suggest running Heroes I on Vista?

I don't know, I haven't dealt with Vista at all. But the fact that a Windows program can run under pure DOS is a revelation to me.

I don't know, I haven't dealt with Vista. But the fact that a Windows program runs under a clean DOS environment is a revelation to me.

Firstly, there's no need to distort words; no one was talking about a clean DOS. I was talking about a DOS emulator. As far as I know, Heroes I runs without problems on Windows 95, 98, and Millennium. I haven't tried it on Windows 2000, so I can't say. But on Windows XP and Vista, Heroes I doesn't run under normal conditions. And that's why an emulator is needed to run it, for example, (DosBox).

Secondly, Catch, if you know how to run Heroes I, at least on XP

Secondly, Catch, if you know how to run Heroes I, even under XP, under normal conditions without an emulator, I would be grateful.

Well, under XP, both the DOS version of the first game and the Windows version (from Buka) run fine, so I haven't had any problems with it.
But I doubt that the Buka version of Heroes can be launched under DOSBox, at least because the game is installed by default in a folder named with Russian letters.

I tried it. It doesn't launch. So, you weren't playing the Buka version...
