Heroes of Might and Magic V doesn't launch. After clicking the launch icon, the optical drive starts spinning, and the H5_Game.exe file appears in the system tray. It uses 50% of the CPU and 5.2 MB of RAM.
After that, nothing happens. I can use the computer and do anything else, but the game doesn't launch.

It feels like the game isn't recognizing the disc in the drive.

How can I fix this? P.S. I was playing this game with this RAM on this computer from this disc six months ago. After reinstalling the operating system, the game doesn't launch.

The disc might be scratched, etc. Give it to a friend and have them test it to see if it works...

The disc is fine; a friend has it, and it runs without any problems. I suspect the issue is with the drive because the behavior is the same whether the disc is in the drive or not: the executable freezes, and 5.2 MB of RAM is allocated.

What version of Heroes are you using, and what patch is installed? Try doing the opposite – borrow another disc and install the game from it. Also, try reinstalling the video card drivers. P.S.

Hmm, so you mean that after resetting the system, the game stopped launching, or that even reinstalling Windows doesn't help now?

Six months ago, I had the same Windows version installed. After multiple installations and removals of various games, it started to glitch. I reinstalled Windows, formatted the drive, and installed a different Windows build. A couple of months later, I tried to launch Heroes, but it wouldn't start. I reinstalled Windows, formatted the drive, and installed the old Windows version – the game still wouldn't launch. I updated the video card drivers – still no luck. I updated DirectX – still no launch. I reinstalled Windows, installed new drivers, and DirectX from the disc – still no launch. After inserting the disc, a menu appears. I click "start game," and the disc starts spinning in the drive, then it stops after a minute. I open the Windows Task Manager, and there's a process in the system tray with the Heroes executable, consuming 50% of the CPU and 5.2 MB of RAM. If I don't terminate the process, it just sits there in the system tray, and nothing else happens. I can still use the computer and play other games (no frame rate issues with other games). I don't know which patch it is; it's the Heroes 5 disc from 1C. The box has a knight on it, with a castle in the background. Inside the box, there's a key for online play and a 1C registration form for registering the game copy. That's pretty much it. I'm waiting for help.

Oops, sorry, I missed the update to this thread...

Try installing patch 1.6. It removes the disk check when launching the game, among other things.

I managed to launch it, but it crashes during video sequences... setting gfx_fullscreen to 0 helps, but I don't want to play in windowed mode.

Most likely, there is an issue with the video card drivers.

Everything is fine with the drivers... everything is working normally, no glitches or compatibility issues. But there are problems with the heroes.

The drivers are new:
nv4_disp 6.14.11.7516 - nVIDIA ForceWare 175.16

Help me! I recently bought a licensed copy of Heroes - Silver Edition. Everything is as it should be, with keys and logos from 1C and Nival. So... I installed the original Heroes, installed the patches - it runs. And even without the disc. I installed Hammers of Fate - it only runs with the disc. But if I install the official patch 2.1 for Hammers of Fate, the game doesn't launch! That is, the disc is in the drive, but it says "insert disc." And without the patch, it runs. What's the problem - help!
