Heroes of Might and Magic V doesn't launch. After clicking the launch icon, the disc drive starts spinning, and the H5_Game.exe file appears in the system tray. It uses 50% of the CPU and 5.2 MB of RAM.
That's it, nothing else happens. I can use the computer and do anything, but the game doesn't launch.
It feels like the game doesn't recognize the disc in the drive.
Win XP SP2
DX 9 latest, downloaded recently
Nvidia 7300 GT 512 MB
RAM - 1024 MB
CPU - P4 3.0 GHz
I read about it... downloaded patch 1.6 - it didn't help. It's still the same... can you suggest other solutions?

I managed to launch it, but it crashes during video sequences... setting gfx_fullscreen to 0 helps, but I don't want to play in windowed mode.
