Posts from Artifacts in Heroes III.
I was playing as a Barbarian (as usual) on the Chaos Reality map. I found the Might of the Dragon Fathers in the water — it stopped being interesting, so I just went and destroyed it (except for the ring +1 morale +1 luck)
I wouldn't say that shackles are a good thing... It's an artifact with a catch, and it might even be detrimental, so I approach it with some distrust=))
But in my opinion, the golden bow, for example, and the sphere of prohibition are good=)) (I'm not talking about the Grail and the blade, as I consider them to be comparable in power, and after them, the game is basically pointless, IMHO).
And the best artifact is the one that helps me win - even a chain of gnolls, etc. - will do.
But naturally, resource-giving artifacts are always useful.
Besides that, Boots of Speed are always handy, along with a couple of Gloves of the Horseman (put them on at night, and in the morning you're full of strength and energy to cover almost twice the distance :-)), Angel Wings, and the Speaker's Hat for Dimension Door.
Otherwise, everything else depends on the situation.
If it's the start of the game, for example, but you've already managed to get Earth Magic - it's very good to snag a Tome of Earth Magic for Town Portal; if your hero has many shooters, the Golden Bow will be an invaluable gift; for a Barbarian, artifacts that block magic and increase creature speed; for Necromancers, ones that boost Necromancy skills (by the way, I wouldn't say the Cloak of the Undead King is as cheesy as many claim - a lot depends on the map, but if the map has many neutrals, then of course it will be sad for the opponents :-)), and so on.
And in general, I really like Boots of Speed and Shackles of War (I don't like it when some scumbag with a weak army, but a strong mage, first tears me apart and then successfully escapes with all the artifacts, the parasite :-))

What I don't really like is the "Might of the Dragon Lord" because I prefer to use magic, and this artifact doesn't help with that. However, it's very good if you have Armageddon's Blade.
They don't solve anything - if you have so many troops that you can fight for artifacts of a similar level, then your opponent might also have a couple of decent mages and a couple of phoenixes with high speed - and you'll be dreaming about that famous blade for a long time. A golden item is useful, but not the ultimate dream. At the very least, ending the game now is clearly premature.
And the best artifact is the one that helps me win - even against a pack of gnolls, etc. - that will do.
(I just rarely rely on magic (I just don't like playing on small maps)). And I didn't mean that the golden bow is some kind of ultimate item - I meant that you can and should continue playing. If the opponent has a Blade or a Grail, then it's definitely game over...=)))
For example, even if you don't count the bonus and the money, taking a swamp with a Grail is simply almost impossible:smile09:
