I would add that the authors understood that you can't romanticize alcoholism too much, so the ending is bittersweet, but mostly sweet rather than bitter – the last scene really resonated with me, especially with the music. I would say that Alex could watch this movie, but not really – firstly, he has already learned the main idea of the film through personal experience, not theory; secondly, it is more for older men, around 40-50 years old; thirdly, it has some sociopromiscuity, and as we know, we condemn that. So, I had this disc with the movie lying around for a while, and I decided to watch it on my smart TV. The quality is not great, but the screen is big. The gist is that students were doing renovations in an abandoned house for money, and it turned out to be the estate of an evil infernal baroness, with demons and ghosts. As a child, I remember being really impressed by this movie; it seemed very spectacular, gothic, and even intelligent. I even had video tapes of it and its sequel. And generally, looking back at that era, the film was praised by everyone, they said how spectacular it was, and so on. But now, you can't watch it without cringing. It's awful, simply monstrously bad editing and clumsy stitching in many scenes, a weak script that doesn't clearly explain the rules of the setting, pointless dialogues, except for a couple of memorable phrases. The much-praised special effects are meaningless nonsense, like a bolt falling from a plane or how a car starts (making a "vzh-vzh" sound). No, there are, of course, some decent examples, but half, if not more, falls into this kind of garbage. Only Zhanna Friske, who was still alive at the time, performing a hit song of that era, brought some joy, but even that is just a factor of nostalgia, nothing more. In general, to put it bluntly, it's amazing how we used to consume such garbage and even praise it.

A long time ago, I and a friend downloaded and watched this movie because we confused it with another one. It's a rather obscure film – it grossed just under $21,000 in the US and $4,000 in Russia. As far as I remember, the film seemed more or less okay, but I really liked the ending. And now, after about ten years, or even more, I suddenly remembered the ending of this movie. I checked my hard drive – it was still there, having survived numerous purges of weaker films. I watched the ending – and it was as good as I remembered. I decided to check Kinopoisk – the rating is 4.9, on IMDb it's 5.2. To give you an idea, this is the level of absolutely terrible trash, as a rule, with a couple of exceptions, but even those exceptions are related to the fact that, in my opinion, viewers don't always understand the point of the film. This discrepancy between my memories and the ratings surprised me so much that I decided to rewatch this film as soon as possible. And as a result, I'll say that I stick to my previous assessment, and would even improve it slightly. In any case, the editing isn't as awful as in the previous "cinemasaur." Yes, the film has a certain budget limitation, yes, most of the action scenes take place in complete darkness, which allows them to save money by not showing most of what's happening, and the film itself is relatively slow-paced (but I've watched even slower ones), and there are few dialogues. But even with these caveats, I think the film is not bad – it shows a simple and "cozy" story in a post-apocalyptic setting. In fact, you should watch the film with exactly these expectations – to watch one day of survival for a group of people in a post-apocalyptic setting, without any twists like the plot, visuals, or anything else. And the film copes with this task quite well; I'm glad I rewatched it.
