New here? I'm Roha — want a quick tour?
Beata: a hysterical person.I caught myself wanting to be offended – I am often accused of being hysterical, and I know myself that I can get worked up over any trifle. But then I realized that, no, I'm not offended. I am consciously portraying Beata as very emotional and flighty. Yes, I associate her with myself, and I don't really like that the NPCs don't like her, but still, she isn't me. I draw inspiration for her from some traits of my own character, but I think that in terms of emotional and moral state, I am closer to Gillon now, who is more reasonable and calm, and is the voice of reason in their pair.

There is no emperor.
My long journey, full of hardships and deprivations, has finally ended at the city walls of my native Gelmar. Never before had I felt such sublime emotions upon returning home.
My first order of business was to report to Irnia. I expected severe punishment for the mission's failure, but none came. I was assured there was a chance to find a cure for my condition. I received property in a suburban settlement and a valuable artifact that conceals one's appearance. The final decree was to aid in Aneksia's mental recovery, and with that, I was sent on an indefinite leave.
And so my ten years of service came to an end. Some conclusion or wise insight comes to mind, but nothing comes of it. Now, having received the blessing of the Holy Father, I can perhaps describe my feelings as those of a son who has disappointed his parent. Though not verbally, materially at least, a high degree of trust and hope was placed upon me. For some reason, I failed to use this wisely. Looking to the future, I am only happy that, even if my mission was not a success, at least it did not end in failure.
Early in the morning, I met with old acquaintances from the South. To my sorrow, this journey claimed the life of the glorious Shoneksh, but the great warrior managed to destroy the Archangel of Humility before his death. Thus, Irnia still got what she wanted, and my soul will not be gnawed by torment over the failure of her grand ambitions.
From the newspaper, I learned of Gelmar's new law, designed to eradicate unclean abominations like myself. Strangely, I found no fear in my heart, only resolve. All dark and evil emotions had long been banished from my soul, and the final liberation from my undead shell brought no regrets.
My feet led me to the church, whose bright spires shone over the city with the sunlight of the great goddess. I felt that this place rejected me, and yet it seemed ready to briefly endure my tainted aura for a chance at redemption. A kindly servant escorted me to the halls of the Holy Father.
During my confession and thanks to the mercy of my interlocutor, I managed to better understand the facets of my soul. In the end, I was forgiven and granted permission to exist. Perhaps this looks like great luck from the outside, but for some reason, I felt it would happen. Possibly, my faith in my own soul turned into faith in the goddess, which the Holy Father saw in me. Be that as it may, his kind and just words will remain in my heart forever.
On the way home, I felt as if the shackles of the old curse suddenly turned to dust, freeing my mind from its long captivity. The blessing of the Holy Father, no doubt. The world before me transformed again with different colors.
Most importantly, I re-evaluated my attitude towards Princess Irnia. Someday, if the goddess wills it, I would like to address my former patron with a single sincere question, the answer to which I deserve. I suppose it was nothing but self-suggestion, and yet... Curses do not appear on their own, and I am not a mighty sorcerer to bewitch myself. Despite everything, I believe that even at the cost of my life, I must learn the truth with which my story began.
At home, I was greeted by Aneksia, who had become my closest person in the city during this time. I have never told her this aloud, but it is obvious that her current state is a consequence of the fateful decision I made. Therefore, even without any orders from above, the chance to return her to the world of the living is my only path to redemption.
Perhaps someday I will be able to see something in her beyond my own sins, but for a start, I will have to free my soul from regret towards her. Alas, even the words of the Holy Father proved unable to overcome this curse.
One of my neighbors, to my great joy, turned out to be my former comrade Rialia. She was provided with a luxurious villa with all amenities. Someone might think I am jealous, but the undead are devoid of such base emotions.
I never really met my second neighbor. He seems to have a life partner, and he himself goes to WORK every day. I think we could have become friends on a philosophical path, but in the end we never even spoke once.
On the very first day, I encountered a long-forgotten obstacle of free life: the need to work to feed myself and Aneksia. With this thought, I headed to the Workers' Guild, where, unfortunately, I found nothing for my original profession. As they say, the market decided. I had to choose between a butcher and a clockmaker's assistant. The first was ruled out due to my rotting body; I wouldn't want to cause the good master problems with sanitary control.
I got a job with Master Tykven. The work is not dusty, minimal interaction with people, no brain activity required. Suits me. The pay is minimal for the region, enough for half a loaf of bread a day for Aneksia. It's amusing to see how the government tries to improve the lives of workers, while entrepreneurs, if they wish, immediately raise prices on goods to compensate for losses. There's your free market.
There, I also met the clockmaker's apprentice. She gives the impression of a lively, energetic, and upstanding person, but her mind and talent are occupied with incredible villainy. I am a bit afraid of her true nature behind her friendly mask. As the future showed, not without reason.
For the second problem, I took up researching the mysterious fruits collected on the last campaign. With this question, I went to the nearest Tavern, but was politely sent to the pharmacy.
After two hours of wandering around the city, I found the Undertaker, who helped reveal the healing properties of the forest fruits. I presented one to Aneksia and the second to Rialia, but was refused. Perhaps she thought that after contact with my undead aura, eating them would be hazardous to health.
I visited the mighty Gae to pay my respects for the Blade forged for me. I asked for advice regarding the souls trapped in the weapon, upon which the great blacksmith, with one strike of his hammer, returned the captive ghosts to the world's cycle. Finally, Gae advised that the "Devourer" thirsts for the accomplishment of a heroic deed. I didn't want to upset the old man, but such a thing with his legendary creation will never happen again.
I visited the local library. My mind had missed reading and devoured it instead of earthly food, which is no longer accessible to me. It seems I got through half the bookshelves in one night. I read everything, from guidebooks to trading manuals. I became interested in an interview with Irnia. A curious work, but one that confused me even more about the true personality and character of my former mistress.
I stopped by the Adventurers' Guild. I realized that adventures are not for me.
I took a walk to my former villa. It was interesting to find out how things were going. Perhaps in my heart I hoped to accidentally run into Irnia, but in the end I only met an old, familiar servant. We even played a game of poker.
As it turned out, Her Highness has not been in the city for some time, and her home is managed by her younger sister, along with an insolent cat to boot.
With sadness, I learned that my former boss at work, Yari, had been captured by a holy terminator somewhere on the empire's border. I don't know who this person is, but even from a simple conversation, I felt an insane threat emanating from him (not even considering my being undead). I hope we never have to face the fruits of his sacred wrath.
We took a walk in the park with Aneksia. We talked about much and nothing at the same time. It seemed as if the walk stretched on for a good week, but apparently time flows at a different rhythm in this mysterious place. We made many unkeepable promises and expressed many unattainable hopes. Random companions strengthened my thoughts about returning to Cridear for a time. I think, in the quiet village setting, it would be possible to significantly speed up Aneksia's recovery. I am not blind and see her attitude towards my humble person, yet I am not sure it is anything more than a consequence of the severe trauma she has endured. As for me, a blue soul and the burden of mistakes do not allow me to truly assess my feelings for her.
I believe, until Aneksia restores her spirit and I regain my lost humanity, our relationship cannot be sincerely assessed.
We finished the walk under a rare snowfall for this time of year. I will consider this a sign from the goddess, no matter how foolish it may sound.
To save money, I began learning trading skills. I managed to sell off most of the southern junk profitably in the Undersupply. I gave the second fruit to the Undertaker; perhaps some wealthy client will want to improve their health.
With the proceeds, I bought gifts for Aneksia at the Souvenir Shop.
I ordered various desserts from Angelio and Secrets.
I brought new furniture from Tim. I didn't ask for an employee discount.
With the remainder, I picked up wall decorations from Mosaic.
Having improved my new trade profession, I returned home to set up the housewarming. Now our humble dwelling looks much warmer and cozier. Of course, if I were a wealthy burgher, I could splurge on expensive carpets and paintings, and have custom-made furniture of better quality, but in my current state, I am more than satisfied with this result. I hope Aneksia is too.
I spent the weekend at the library, reading the chronicles of the distant Velfern Empire.
On the way back, I watched the Archangel of Hope descend from the heavens and illuminate the city with its divine light. I realized that my quiet life had ended again, before it had even begun.
I quickly understood that I could not help the blessed residents in any way, and I headed home. Already on the road, I met a mysterious faceless stranger. She offered to exchange my sword for her cat and a solution to my problems. Even in these lines, it sounds like pure charlatanism, but I... Am seriously considering accepting her offer.
I suppose a random reader would twirl a finger at their temple saying, "What an unteachable fool," and I would proudly answer that indeed I am. After all, if not me, then who else will diversify our world with stupid actions?..
At home, I found out that the archangel's coming had an effect on Aneksia's condition. This forced me to urgently look for a side job, as my funds are not enough to buy the necessary "medicines."
In the following days, I walked around the city, sadly observing the closed shutters and the residents fleeing in haste. Evidently, the archangel's blessing turned the unfaithful into panic. Among the few remaining establishments, I discovered a curious place, "Duma", where truly tough men spend entire days in mental-physical debates.
The boss and I grew seriously worried about the well-being of his apprentice, so we went to visit. Thus, I accidentally stumbled upon the doorstep of Irnia's top-secret elite unit called "Cucumber". That's how fate toys with me.
To my surprise, I met an old acquaintance, the necromancer Rettgat. Our first meeting was quite frosty, but now, perhaps sensing my undead aura, we parted as good friends. I must admit, I was greatly mistaken about him. Just as the soul of a death knight can be genuinely pure, so can a bandit become a hero.
From other old-timers in the organization, I met the loving couple Biba and Boba. I was pleasantly surprised how, with such different personalities, they organically complement each other, as if their souls have been intertwined for ages. But their current work... I don't know how they find the heart to risk parting forever with each dangerous mission. Such resolve is, alas, beyond the grasp of someone insignificant like me.
From other members of the organization, I subsequently got to know the warrior Alika and the maid Letia.
And of course, my senior colleague Rfr turned out to be the leader of this small unit. It's frightening to think how easily she manages to combine the guise of a good-natured blacksmith and the unscrupulous leader of the most professional squad in the world.
Giving me the most hospitable welcome, the mercenaries graciously granted me access to their archive and even a secretary's position for administrative work. Given my tight financial situation, I decided to take advantage of such a generous offer.
The next day, to my considerable surprise, I met my old acquaintance Rialia in the ranks of "Cucumber". So fate has once again made us comrades in the service of Princess Irnia. I only hope our Calcit "luck" does not turn into trouble for the new squad...
On Saturday evening, I was unexpectedly summoned to pay homage to the princess's younger sister, Irneya. To my astonishment, I received a blessing and a generous gift simply for being part of the group.
From the overall picture, I understood that this time we are dealing with another Archangel, I suspect of Hope. An incredibly powerful and dangerous enemy who will surely visit the city again soon. Fortunately, my new colleagues already have a plan to counter the foe, and I will put my entire undead soul into prayers for their success.
Aneksia and I discussed plans for the future and a possible temporary departure from the city. In the end, we decided to stay in Gelmar and face grim fate with our heads held high.
In recent weeks, I have become seriously interested in the historical chronicles of the Velfern Empire, as well as the main branch of its ruling dynasty.
I. Torvik the Founder
It is difficult to verify the authenticity of any given archive or the bias of any given historian, so I will have to go by what is at hand. For most of his life, an absolutely positive person, making necessary sacrifices solely for the survival of his people.

If a perfect country ever appears in the world, this man would be the closest to its ideal ruler. What did he lack? Perhaps only immortality.

Do we really need to crush and dominate everyone around us? I suppose history is written by the victors...

X - Velfern es Diesra Arual
A person with the motto "The end justifies the means." Do I agree with this? Knowing rulers like Sillion, perhaps yes. But what guarantees are there that someone like him or Velfern will sincerely lead you to a bright future, and not use their power for personal gain?..

XI - Raidark es Diesra Arual
How much can I say about the conqueror of my homeland? Thank you for not leveling Cridear to the ground with a snap of his sorcerous fingers. I suppose the Imperials brought us some technology, but we lived quite well without it, thank you very much.

In any case, Erefir politely clarifies two things: how they will travel and whether there is a safe container for the stone in case of success. Given how much more powerful Hopeless is compared to the other apostles, this could turn out to be important, as Erefir thought... Or it might not.
- I will send you to Kridaar using the same method as to the islands of Kumari, but as for the vessel... Alas, nothing suitable comes to mind.
Astellia decides to give the timepiece to Erephir, and the sword to Garret - it suited his figure.
- I'm still no warrior.
Her first act was to sign a meticulously drafted agreement with a modeling agency, the key section of which carefully stipulated the permissible range of acceptable looks for work.
