Expedition: general discussions. Auto-translated

Maps make the game more fun and can provide ideas for those who don't have any.

Besides traits, there are also options with a backstory (but this has its own problems, in the sense that some players might not find anything suitable from the list), although the fun factor is roughly the same as with maps. But balancing might be a little easier.

On the other hand, it's very difficult to find a middle ground between "maps don't change anything" and "maps break everything."

Maps, by their very nature, will break something. Either the player will simply start as an unstoppable force, or they will change the situation in the setting with their very existence, or they will simply gain additional opportunities to steer the narrative in a completely unexpected direction for the GM.

As far as Nebk is concerned, I don’t think we broke anything. And regarding the Terminators… there are always Visterians and Areids, and someone will inevitably take the first ones and become on par with the Terminator, and someone will take the second ones, and for them, everything around is Terminators anyway.

Considering what you said about balance, I thought you were planning to exclude Araidons and Visterians from the maps. As for Nebka, I don't remember the maps very well anymore, but even in the basic game, there were some incredibly broken elements that not every map could compare to – like those mages who could rewrite reality on the fly.

mages who rewrite reality on the fly.

This isn't just a minor flaw; it's deliberate destruction 😈.

With maps, it's all about fun, but if we can come up with something even more entertaining, why not? The backstories could potentially be interesting (the main thing is that they shouldn't be too restrictive and should complement the players' stories, rather than replace them).

So deliberate that a deity from your setting had to clean up after a single sorceress...

Any character who went to complete that quest would encounter it. So, it was more of a lucky break that it was fixed. But in general, its main function is quite obvious. However, I still think that having such mages is fun.

Are you all into mapmaking?

Are you all busy with expeditions?

Well, we can't just be idle.

Oh, there are three games in development at once, that’s pretty good.

Yeah... it's in development, in deep development... I'll reveal it in about two years... if I'm lucky...

Great, the more thoroughly it is developed, the better the final product will be.

As for me, I'm still at the concept stage; I have ideas for the mechanics, plot, and setting.

Alex will open the next Revan in about a week, then Ples will join, and after that, Nebo will finish it.
