In Equilibris, Ogres have gained many spells, some of which are quite useful. The Ogre-Mage has been given the following spells: Magic Resistance, Mana Drain, Spell Shackle, Snake Strike, and Sparks. He now has a total of 5 mana (previously 6). The Ogre-Mage's ability has been changed from "Bloodlust" to "Spellcaster" due to the expanded range of spells. (c) From the mod developers' website
But out of habit, you still take Cyclops! Although, an army of Ogre-Mages with the First Strike ability is quite powerful!
Yeah, I managed to negate that first hit with a spell or a scroll... and that's it, the Ogre doesn't have enough mana for anything else.
Well, you can say the same about any blessing spell! But against Nature, with its flying creatures and lack of dispel magic, Ogre Mages will be better than Cyclops! But the amount of mana is really disappointing....:( :( :( It turns out they can cast a spell a maximum of 2 times!
Centaurs are quite decent archers. And in melee combat... In the early stages, they are very useful for a Barbarian. Especially if the hero has a Sniper's crossbow, which, by the way, is quite common. Although, of course, from the very first encounters with neutral creatures, they become cannon fodder that distracts from the hero.

I agree with you, Centaurs simply distract the enemy from the hero. But they still have some use. Especially if the hero has an Elven King's Bow (plus one more attack in ranged combat for all creatures). I once experimented in the editor and created a Barbarian hero with full combat skills, with a Sword of Swiftness. I gave him a Potion of Swiftness, knowledge of Chaos magic, and an Elven King's Bow. And I added a Gargantua to his army. The enemy was a monster. During the battle, the hero drank the potion, cast "Cat's Agility" on himself and the Gargantua. Then they became very useful. In melee combat, the Hero attacked five times, and the Gargantua fired four times. That's some serious power, a useful team.
Yes, it's certainly powerful... But it's a shame that such combinations are only possible in the editor :smile39:. Standard maps are much simpler .
The strongest of all creatures is the Black Dragon; it has helped me out many times.
The strongest isn't the Black Dragon, but the Dragon King. And while the Black Dragon is very useful, it's best suited for specific situations; there are even more useful creatures.

I'm not at home right now and can't show it, but here are the parameters: Black Dragon - damage 55-110 Health - 400 Defense - 40 Ranged defense - 40 Attack - 40
Dragon Lord - damage 50-100 Health - 1000 Defense - 50 Ranged defense - 50 Attack - 50
Ah... I love black dragons, poisonous creatures (that spit poison), genies, and probably cyclops... ;) ... but for me, the most fun is an army made up of only heroes and a large supply of potions of immortality.... :smile12: :smile19: :smile19: :smile19: :smile19: :smile19: :smile19: :smile19:

The Dragon King is a very good unit! Its area of effect attack can harm your own troops, but it can also be very helpful – for example, when storming a castle (the Dragon King attacks not only the gates but also the allies standing behind them). And it can also be blessed, unlike the black dragon (although that one is also incredibly overpowered with its stats). But... there are situations where the Dragon King may not be useful despite its mega-stats. An example? Sure. I'm creating a campaign and naturally testing it as I go. I had a situation: a hero, 3 Magic Dragons, and 5 Dragon Kings against another hero (level 1, without an army – just marking that the hero will be there). The Dragon Kings didn't make it in one turn. Then it was the Magic Dragons' turn, and they lazily blasted with lightning. Only bones remained of the hero.
I prefer mage units, but ones that don't fall quickly in melee combat. I also take archers to thin out the enemy army before it reaches my troops. Although... a strong infantry unit wouldn't hurt.
The usefulness of a unit depends on the player's tactics and how suitable the unit is against the opponent's units (for example, a vampire is very useful against the basic Nature army, but it clearly has nothing to do against golems, undead, or elementals). But in any case, a pumped-up mage hero or a hero with Warfare (and tactics, plus troops) will definitely not be useless in battle.

Yeah, that's pretty cool, I have to admit... But even one well-leveled hero with an immortality potion is more than enough – I've seen it firsthand

It looks impressive, but often the spirit interferes, especially if the heroes are from different Castles.

Well, a vampire is useful against any living unit, except perhaps against crusaders and, perhaps, against magical creatures... Well, without any hero, the army loses its strength, especially without a mage or a tactician, and it becomes similar to a neutral army, if you are playing against a strong player (i.e., you won't be able to make a proper move with the unit either)
Отдай свои прошлые сны, В сомненьях себя обрети, В бешеном танце душа кружится! Не думай, что будет потом, Здесь и сейчас мы живем, Стань хоть на миг сам собой, слышишь!

I was talking about the army in general. For example, Life can take a ballista on level 2, and level 3 is all about defense against Death, so vampires will have a very hard time in that case. And when Order builds golems and mechanical dragons, vampires often nervously gnash their teeth on the sidelines. They can't do anything against undead. But they are indispensable in fighting against Nature (if it doesn't have elementals) and Chaos.
I agree that an army with a hero is better than one without. Even psychologically, it feels more natural. As for mages, it depends on the mage. A Sorcerer is better off running solo - you can level up magic resistance and silence everyone with Armageddon. But a Priest definitely needs an army.
Oh well, I've been playing "The Coming Storm" and now I'm thinking not about which monster is more useful, but about which hero is cooler :D
It looks impressive, but often morale hinders them if the heroes are from different factions.
Well, I don't know, I always try to choose a more diverse team... if the heroes are already well-leveled, then morale doesn't bother them... there are useful artifacts, and everyone can be equipped in the forge... I usually take 2 Chaos Mages and 1-2 Chaos Warriors + a Life Mage, a Death Mage, and preferably also a Nature Sniper - they are really great... the funniest heroine in Chaos is the redhead Medusa (she even takes off her wig on the battlefield :))... if you take her at the start, then after a week or two, her copy appears in the tavern... I've defeated so many armies with these twins... oh well... I want to play Heroes IV again...
