I find it difficult to perceive contests on forums as something competitive, where you need to strive for victory with all your might. Half of the participants (including myself) simply rate based on their own tastes, whether they like it or not, and the other half adjusts their ratings by a point or two based on their own preferences. It's too subjective and unpredictable a system without clear criteria; the themes themselves are vague, and the contestants are very diverse. I perceive the voting purely as a fun addition, an incentive to listen to/watch everything submitted, express my Very Valuable Opinion on each participant, and then look at the result of the collective unconscious and just laugh.

For example, whether something is objectively good or bad. This can include a set of criteria, such as originality, technical execution, balance of components, and so on, which can often be determined even if it doesn't personally resonate with you. If you feel that objectively it's at a level that doesn't allow you to simply lower or inflate the rating based solely on the fact that it's "not your cup of tea," then you can use that as a starting point and adjust the rating according to your preferences.

yes, it's all very simple there. You find a track that doesn't evoke any negative or positive emotions, i.e., it doesn't even have a slightly pleasant vibe. You give it a 5, and then you rate the following tracks based on that rating.
