Blocking portals—how's that work?
On that map, there are 3 one-way portals through which enemies from inaccessible locations come at us. You place upgraded shooters with a huge army there, periodically reinforcing them with more troops, and the enemies either don't come through or get killed on them.
you said you'd steer clear of Minchev's maps.
Nah, I just decided to run an experiment: whether it's possible to beat a difficult Minchev map without any editor at all. Seems like it's not. At least not without spending an absurd amount of time on it. I already checked in the editor what quest tangles need to be unraveled next and what serpentine paths lie ahead. I'll probably stop playing. I've had my fill of that quest-and-serpentine "jam" from beating Alexandretta.
The only thing—I'll still try pulling off a stunt to get to the brown respawn using water walking. If you give a hero with Expert Scouting a Telescope and Boots of Haste, they can apparently run across the water from where Solmyr is imprisoned to the lower castle Agoura and reveal the opposite shore. Then you can just ignore that brown tent. I'll just cross to the other side and that's it. That should significantly simplify further survival. Though I'll have to roll back who knows how far.
In general, there seem to be quite a lot of such loopholes on the map. For example, why was it necessary to block the passage to the obelisk at 51,140,0 with three guardians, an event that drains all mana, and a box with strong guards, if you can just walk there by water from the seer where you pick up the Red Sphere? Sink the boat and go on your merry way. Or, the passage to the Necklace of Speed, the dolphin, and the box with free 1,5K genies is blocked by a guardian demanding an absurd amount of troops and a purple pillar. What's the point of all those guardians and other obstacles if you can just walk there by water?
Yes, tricks with scouting work here; I myself went through it that way.
It seems to me that the author had too much of a desire to make all these quests more complex, and as a result, he overdid it. Therefore, it is not surprising that players, seeing all this madness, begin to look for some ways around it. As soon as I got into the editor, I immediately saw that the opposite bank is very close, it's just not visible. Figuring out how to get there was just a matter of technique.
I looked at the slightly updated version of the map.
I also, since I was already in the editor, decided to take a look at the updated version. At first glance, it should be easier to complete. There is a Book of Earth, and in cities where there were no guilds, they are now available. Although, perhaps, in some ways it has become more difficult. I didn't examine it closely.
scars of reality , you said that you would bypass the Minsk maps. Let me know if you are being held hostage and forced to untangle quest chains at gunpoint.
By the way, since the conversation started, I advise you to grab the Alice in Iceland map, which was recently posted on maps4heroes. It does not look like the usual Minchev maps at all, small with a well-developed battle. Indirect signs point to the Chinese origin of the map, but figs would be with it, the gameplay is interesting anyway.
Minchev created 70 maps and not a single topic on the forums. You made 4 maps and posted 400 spam topics on foreign forums, and now you come here to spam. Please explain how Minchev posted your map on the site before you created it? Where is this map? Take a picture of it and send it here. It's easy. What are you protecting your map from? Has anyone seen your map with his authorship? Maps that are not yours have been uploaded to websites for several months, and no one is causing you any problems. If you don't understand Russian, what are you doing on a Russian forum?
I decided to finally finish playing "A Long Way" and now I'm sitting here like an idiot, trying to write a report about the map, like the ones other players write. It's turning out to be some kind of nonsense. Everyone else's reports are like actual reports, more like reviews of some movie. The map is described, along with its strengths and weaknesses, what to pay attention to, what was liked, and what wasn't, and a general overview of the playthrough. But I'm just writing some kind of gibberish. Just another huge story about how the map was completed. Is there any point in continuing? There's a lot of text, but there's little in it that would be understandable to those who haven't played the map.
