I agree. That's why I immediately seized the opportunity to play as one in this expansion, considering that they are well-implemented here. In Lapistia, I also tried playing as a battlemage, but it ended up being just running around the battlefield and resurrecting fallen comrades while Sarnissa carried the battles.
That's a case where being too cautious backfired. If he had been as selfish and irresponsible as the others, he might not have had to resurrect anyone.
