Posts from Phoenix Vision – a comprehensive modification of the game’s visual aspects.
I think it's a very good decision to make upgrades more than just different color variations! :smile54:
Well, it's also an option for variety, although there are already enough differences between upgrades ;)
If there was some kind of pattern for creatures of "non-standard" size, it wouldn't raise questions, but as it is, it's unclear what principle the developers used to make them shorter or taller than the others.

Well, one person started it, and another finished it... and then scaled it to fit their usual viewing area!
The main part of the work on Necropolis has been completed.
The appearance of the creatures has been changed in accordance with the concept: -Base creatures remain unchanged. -Upgrades are made in white and blue tones. -Alt. upgrades are in red and black.

I'm slowly getting back to working on the mod, and I had an idea that the Orcs are unfairly neglected by me (in terms of visual changes), and I decided to fix this injustice, specifically by working on the shamans.
The thing is, I initially didn't like the fact that the Daughters of the Sky don't have daggers, even though the basic unit does, and in general, the regular shamans look nicer. So, I conducted some... experiments... and here's what I got:
In general, the models of the Shamans and Daughters of the Sky have been swapped and slightly changed; the upgraded version has received a red glowing dagger effect, and the alternate upgraded version has a slightly brighter effect of blue glowing elements of clothing.
This is approximately how the unit lines now look:
The final decision on whether to include this in the mod has not yet been made, as these changes may be quite controversial, so I need a fresh perspective and your opinions on this...

The thing is, I initially didn't like the fact that the Daughters of the Sky don't have daggers, even though the basic creature does, and in general, the regular shamans seem more appealing.
But in my opinion, it turned out to be illogical! The hat-like headdress is the base, as the horns are still small and/or underdeveloped, but the upgraded and alt-upgraded versions already have substantial horns! I think we need to explore this direction further!
And, in fact, the absence of daggers is quite justified, even from the point of view of the stylistic consistency of the unit lines – this upgrade is closest to the demons, and therefore they are more bloodthirsty and ruthless, which explains why their shaman prefers to slash enemies with her claws (even if it's not as effective as the knives of the Alt faction) \(•̀ᴗ•́)/
As I understand it, the mod is still under development, and it can't be downloaded yet?
That's right, the mod is still under development. ------------------------------------------
psatkha
And in my opinion, it turned out to be a logical absurdity! In the basic unit with a furry hat, the base is, because the horns are still small and/or underdeveloped, but the upgraded and elite units already have solid horns! In my opinion, you need to work on this!
There is certainly some logic in the horns, but it seems to me that this is not the determining factor, but rather a side effect. And reducing the size of the horns is not a problem, plastic surgery can do wonders these days :D ------------------------------------------

And in fact, the absence of daggers is quite justified from the point of view of the style of the unit lines - the upgraded unit is closest to the demons and therefore more bloodthirsty and cruel, so there is nothing surprising that their shaman prefers to hack enemies with her claws (even if it is not as effective as the elite unit's knives) \(•̀ᴗ•́)/
Well, I don't know, it seems to me that this justification is a bit far-fetched. Demons also use weapons quite successfully, Pit Lords and Devils will confirm this
By the way, has anyone noticed that the Sky Daughters use the same attack animation as the shamans/Earth Daughters, i.e., they hit as if they should have daggers in their hands, but they don't... ---------------------------------------------------------------
When changing the appearance of creatures, I reasoned as follows:
If you look at all the factions as a whole, you can identify an obvious pattern that the upgraded and elite units of creatures, as a rule, have common features, structure, and even animations, compared to the basic units. For example, ordinary hydras have 3 heads, and the upgraded and elite units have 6, i.e., the basic units should be quite noticeably different from their upgrades, and the upgrades, in turn, should be similar to each other.
Now let's go back to the shamans. Ordinary shamans with bears on their heads are quite similar to the Earth Daughters in all secondary characteristics, at least in height, build, and elements of clothing, as well as the presence of daggers, so, guided by the above logic, I decided to put them in the place of the upgraded unit, so that the upgraded and elite units would be similar.
Bald and horned Sky Daughters (original model) are very different from the base and elite units, like black sheep. As a basic unit, in my opinion, they look better, and the absence of weapons is now at least justified.
However, I initially understood that these changes would be controversial, many are quite used to the images and style of the creatures, and are simply not ready for a radical change in appearance. For this reason, a vote was opened, but there were very few who voted...
The same applies to the changes in the Necropolis. I reworked almost all the creatures of this faction, in my opinion, it turned out to be quite harmonious, but I am almost sure that many will not be able to accept the fact that pink undead no longer exists in nature...
Well, I don't know, it seems to me that this justification is a bit far-fetched. Demons also use weapons quite successfully; Pit Fiends and Devils can attest to that.
Nevertheless, "brutality" is clearly the word to describe the Orc upgrade (the part about demons is just to explain why they are brutal even compared to other Orcs; the demons themselves are more about monstrosity).
By the way, has anyone noticed that the Daughters of the Sky use the exact same attack animation as the Shaman/Daughters of the Earth, i.e., they attack as if they should have daggers in their hands, but they don't...
Not that we haven't noticed, but rather we tactfully kept quiet about it... (or do you suddenly have an alternative??)
The same goes for the changes to Necropolis. I've reworked practically all the creatures of this Faction; in my opinion, it turned out quite harmoniously, but I'm almost certain that many won't be able to accept the fact that pink undead no longer exists.
Well, it's a pity that we won't see purple vampires in your version, but the creature lines themselves are excellent!!! But since you're asking for criticism, please - Necropolis has caught the Haven disease, when there are such contrasting color schemes (red and blue) in the castle that it makes me feel uncomfortable inside when they are present in the army at the same time. This is especially noticeable on the skeletons, and I like to take both upgrades into the army at the same time(((
Added after 7 minutes Regarding the similarity of upgrades - although the concept is not bad and is confirmed in most cases, where not all three creatures are exactly the same, there are also examples where it is unclear whether something needs to be changed - the same Warmongers, Battle Mages, Cyclops

By the way, will the mod be compatible with EWA? :D
By the way, has anyone noticed that the Sky Maidens use the same attack animation as the Shaman/Earth Maidens, i.e., they attack as if they should have daggers in their hands, but they don't...
CuriousGhost
Not that we haven't noticed, but rather we tactfully kept quiet about it... (or do you suddenly have an alternative??)
I think there is one. I don't see the point in tinkering with the animation itself, so the only option is to give the Sky Maidens daggers so that their attack animation looks appropriate. :)
CuriousGhost
Well, it's a pity that we won't see purple vampires in your version, but the creature lineups are great in themselves!!!
You won't, unfortunately)). By the way, someone has already made purple vampires, and quite recently. CuriousGhost
But since you're asking for criticism, here it is: Necropolis has caught the Haven's disease, when there are such contrasting colors in the castle (red and blue) that it makes me feel uncomfortable when they are present in the army at the same time. This is especially noticeable on the skeletons, and I like to take both grades into the army at the same time(((
There is some truth to that, the contrast between the grades is quite large, but there's nothing to be done about it, but it's still better than in the original, at least in my opinion. Arkkard
By the way. Will the mod work with EWA? :D
First of all, the mod is designed for the clean version of the game 3.1, so it is difficult to predict how Phoenix Vision will interact with other modifications. In the case of EWA, I suspect that the compatibility will be partial.
The voting for the appearance of the shamans has ended! Although there were not many votes, the majority still voted for the original model. Perhaps, a rather predictable result.
The shamans will be returned to their original appearance. Thank you to all who participated in the voting, and stay tuned for updates! :)
Bring back the wing and body coloring from the original griffons; otherwise, due to the shine, they look lifeless and more like metal than living creatures.
Bring back the wing and body color scheme from the original griffons; otherwise, due to the shine, they look lifeless and more like metal than living creatures.
The idea was that they should be not metallic, but more...golden... This is one of those cases where the texture looks great in the editor, but in the game, it doesn't look so good on the creature:mad:
Royal griffons looked like this in UNIT and the early version of PV, but their appearance has changed slightly since then.
Now they look like this:
The body color was changed, and a glow was added to two armor elements, like on the alternate upgrade.
Added 7 hours 29 minutes ago By the way, the female units from the League of Shadows also had a slight redesign.
The Mistresses received spikes on their whip, like in the original, and the Shadow Lords received the same whip, but in a purple version.
Perhaps the Furies and Shadow Lords should have their hair recolored as it was in the beta? For the Archangels, to give them more individuality, it might be worth changing their sword to the alpha version (I made one for myself recently, and while the result didn't fully satisfy me, it's good if you don't focus on minor details).
