Rating system for HMM4 online games!
The rating will be updated after the completion of each Tournament. The table will be populated by players who have applied for HMM4 online tournaments.
The following rating system has been adopted:
Rnew=2/3Rold+1000((N-i)/(N-1)+((N-i)/(N-1))^3)(1+SumRold/6000) and divide by 10 so it is not too large a number and (+ kGw-k1Gl), where k, k1 are coefficients that will depend on the rating.
N- number of people in the tournament
i- place in the tournament
^- exponentiation.
Rold- old rating
Gw- games won
Gl- losses:)
Rating graduations on which coefficients k, k1 will depend:
Up to 500 units k = 3 k1 = 1
From 500 to 1500 k = 1.5 k1 = 2
from 1500 to 3000 k = 0.75 k1 = 3
from 3000 and above k = 0.5 k1 = 3.5

Rating point graduations with ranks:
0-150 novice
150-500 recruit
500-1000 warrior
1000-1500 Knight
1500-2250 crusader
2250-3000 champion
3000-3500 master
3500-above hero.

You see, if a player simply doesn't show up for the tournament and doesn't play any matches, their rating will remain the same according to the existing formulas. However, if they register but don't show up, their rating will be lowered. This means people will stop saying things like, "Just sign me up, I'll beat you all. We'll play then..." It's simply disrespectful to those who are waiting for their opponent at the scheduled time, and disrespectful to the organizer, etc. But if we make the penalty for not showing up more severe and make sure everyone is aware of it, I think people won't just throw words to the wind... they'll think twice next time.
I don't understand you. Award 1 point for showing up and losing. Award 0 points for not showing up. If a player registers and doesn't show up at all, they will receive ZERO points for all matches against everyone. Calculate how much that will be in total :) It will be ZERO, which corresponds to the LAST PLACE. And we calculate the rating based on the placement. Why introduce even more complexity into the formula if the player already receives a sufficient penalty for not showing up???

Maybe that formula is super-duper, but I don't have time to mess with it.
It's not super-duper. The formula has been tested in hundreds of games, and hundreds of people have a rating based on it. I'm sorry, but if you personally can't figure it out and you don't have time to mess with it, what's the point in discussing what you're going to come up with on your own???
PS. Optimal, if it's not too much trouble, please forward the files I sent to Ley. I've already lost them, and I searched for them for a long time for you. I see that Ley is very interested in the online rating, so I think he wouldn't mind taking a look at what's there. What do you think he'll say about it???

But if a person simply doesn't show up, as you say, they will receive 0 in the rating, i.e., their rating will remain the same... But if we introduce that very coefficient k, then the rating will decrease in case of absence.
If a player thinks: "Well, I'll skip it, and who cares, the rating will still be the same," then in this case, the person will not register if they know that they will miss a couple of games - this will not be in their interest.

I think the most interesting thing I posted was in the post about the calculation formula. In principle, I don't understand the mathematical operation symbol "^" and the number 6000. But in principle, my formula is somewhat similar to this one, in a slightly simplified version.
P.S. Maybe people play VGAplanet often, but not Heroes 4. There are also few players and not many tournaments, so a dynamic calculation is not needed. Therefore, if my formula doesn't work, i.e., there are some errors, we'll figure out why and fix it if necessary. And if it's a complete mess, then we'll have to use your formula and deal with it. Right now, I've suggested analyzing the formula Rnew=2*(Ga/P+(N+(Gw-Gl)+2/3*Rold. I just don't understand what bothers you about it.
P.P.S. Leia, give me your email...

If a player thinks: "Well, I'll skip it, and who cares, the rating will stay the same anyway," then in this case, the person won't sign up if they know they'll miss a few games – it won't be in their interest.
In other words, you're suggesting that you take a person who already has a rating of zero or some other number and push them into negative numbers with a formula? Is it worth the effort? Skipping a tournament, if you sign up and don't show up, puts the person in last place with ZERO points. The rating doesn't seem to change. But it doesn't increase either. Reducing the rating of such a player solves the problem of the rating "aging." Since there is no increase, the rating will decrease due to aging. Why add an additional coefficient that will even more ARTIFICIALLY, according to the whims of the system developers, push the player into additional negative numbers??? And if a person signed up with good intentions, but life didn't allow them to participate in the tournament – they didn't have enough real time? In this regard, your coefficient is not good. And if, with your good intentions, you offend even one such person because of the irresponsible ones, will that be right from a purely human point of view??? Start thinking from this position, and not from the position of how to punish the irresponsible even more. Ok?

:) If you had read everything I sent you. Sometimes one game lasts for HALF A YEAR!!! And each match involves no more than 11 people. The rating lists that I sent you contain a list of hundreds of people!!! What more is needed? The unclear symbol, I think, is the square root. The number 6000 – I don't know. I need help from mathematicians. I know some. These are AmberSoler and FireBall. Contact them directly in your own name for a consultation on this number in this formula! Only then can we finally decide whether it is suitable or not for Heroes online. Ask them for a consultation about this formula and whether it is suitable for online games – they won't charge you! ;) I think.

In this regard, they should just warn the organizer, and that's it. It's not a big deal... Just don't say: "I'll show you..." - they will get penalized...

IronAxe;113609
In this regard, your approach isn't very good. And if you offend even one such person with your good intentions because of the carelessness of others, will that be right from a purely human point of view??? Start thinking from this perspective, and not from the perspective of how to punish the careless even more. Ok?

However, this might discourage a newcomer from participating in the tournament (I just thought about this...), i.e., there aren't many people in the 4-player mode anyway... Yes, there's something to think about...

Optimal, here you go:

In this regard, let him warn the organizer and everyone else. It's not a big deal... Just don't say, "I'll beat you all like..." - they'll punish you...
Well, what a mess :) It's like a kindergarten. Let him brag that he's the best Bruce Lee. In the end, if he doesn't show up, he gets ZERO points - last place. The rating remains unchanged, and if he had a rating higher than zero, it goes into the negative due to inactivity. The forum users are making harmless jokes about Bruce - the tough guy. What more do you need? To kick him while he's down and push him even further into the negative? Is that serious? And if, in the process, a decent player who couldn't participate suffers... The situation: I say I'll crush everyone, I get replies, and I leave the tournament, warning the organizer. And the one who hoped to play at least one match with someone on the tournament gets additional negative points? Is that fair?
Ley;113612

It's a different matter that this might discourage a newcomer from participating in the tournament (I just thought about this, by the way...), i.e., there are already few people playing in the 4-player mode... Yes, there's something to think about...
Well, think about it - there's still time. ;)

Yeah... Iron, you're right.
Okay. I've even come up with a way to automate your formula.
I think that if there are already few players, and there will be 80% fewer, so there's no need to worry about the number 6000. But regarding the ^ symbol, which is in X^3? It's unlikely to be a root (or a cubic root, although unlikely:).

Situation: I say I'm going to crush everyone, and they respond with posts. Then I withdraw from the tournament, warning the organizer. And who will get extra negative points? The one who hoped until the very end to play at least one match with someone at the tournament?

So, what will you achieve with this approach? If I were to consider such a situation, I would immediately deduct 100 rating points. But a normal person would probably let it go because they're not the only one playing – they'll find someone else if needed.
However, what could really discourage someone from participating is this, and that's not right... With your permission, I'd rather focus on this thought because I'm only a proponent of competition, meaning the more participants, the better... :)

IronAxe;113616
Well, think about it – there's still time ;)

And if it's not a secret, what are the deadlines? You can think about it for a long time :D?

P.S. I received the email, but it seems like there's not much in it... Iron, approximately how many lines are there, or better yet, do you remember the size in megabytes?

Okay, I'll take a look when I have time; I won't do it right now, please excuse me...

Yes, it's the square root of three or the cubic root. I'm pretty sure!

But is the cube root calculated that way? I don't remember exactly, but it seems to be different, although of course, maybe I'm wrong...

Iron, I don't have any system...:(, no formulas...

So, what will you achieve by considering such a situation? I would immediately deduct 100 rating points for that :D, but a normal person would probably let it slide because they know they're not the only one playing – they can find a couple of others if needed.
How would you even deduct 100 points from me? I said I would crush everyone, then I read the posts, thought about it, and decided to back out. At the same time, I wrote that my grandmother was supposedly sick, and I couldn't participate – remove me, okay? And try to deduct 100 points from me then :)
And there's a guy who said he would crush everyone, but he's not removed until the very end, hoping to beat someone, but it doesn't work out (his grandmother is actually sick). This guy will lose rating points in your system, unlike the clever guy who "withdraws" from the tournament in time.
Ley;113622

And if it's not a secret, what's the deadline? You can think about it for a long time :D?
Well, that's up to you, plus how many good ideas you have and how often they come to you :)
Ley;113622

P.S. I received the email, but it seems like there's not much there... Iron, approximately how many lines are there, or better yet, what's the size in terms of capacity, do you remember?
Never mind, I'll take a look later, I won't do it right now, please excuse me...
I don't remember the size in terms of capacity :) There were several rating lists (I'm on one of them). A description of the rating calculation system. A description of the rules for the VGAPlanets game. A description of one game in which I was a substitute. So, there should have been several files.

Isn't the cube root calculated like that? I don't remember exactly, but it seems like it's done differently, although of course, maybe...
How would I know how to draw the cube root of three in a text editor? There were no Windows or Word back then. And I sent the texts in the form they were given to me.
Ley;113624

Iron, I don't have any of that...:(, no formulas...
Optimal, did you really send everything?
That's a question for Optimal :) If you can't figure it out, I can look for all this stuff if you want, sometime towards the end of the week, and send it to you? Optimal, admit it – why didn't you read everything and copy it?

Well, how would you penalize me with "-100"?

I was just kidding... like you were about Bruce Lee. :)
IronAxe;113625
And there's a guy who said he would crush everyone – he's not removed until the very end, hoping to beat someone, but it doesn't work out (in reality, his grandmother is sick). This guy will drop in the ranking on your system, unlike the cunning one who will "withdraw" from the Tournament in time.

Is it worth discussing this now? I changed my mind, but not because of your arguments, because, in my opinion, the assessment should be strict! But the number of participants is still more important than personal principles... which is what I used as a starting point for what I proposed.
IronAxe;113625
Well, that's up to you, plus how good your ideas are and how often they come to you. :)

You just wrote it in such a way that I thought I needed to look at it before the end of some Tournament, now it's clear... ;)

I don't remember the capacity. There were several ranking lists (and I was on them too :). Description of the rating calculation system. Description of the rules of the VGAPlanets game. Description of a walkthrough of one game in which I was a substitute. So, there should have been several files.

In that case, I only received part of what you wrote... I don't know how that could have happened...

P.S. It's strange, I received everything, but in pieces. I'll probably check it on Monday...

Actually, the caret symbol (^) is generally used to denote the exponent, i.e., the power to which a number is raised, such as X^3 = X * X * X.
