Aquaman

The plot is weak, and the beginning is a bit messy... but the graphics and action are so good that they overshadow the latest Avengers movies, IMHO. You don't need to think (which is contraindicated, but it's standard for this type of movie), and it's 100% entertaining. I really enjoyed it.

Upgrade ("Upgrade", USA-Australia, 2018)
This is a case where a standard action movie plot leads to something truly interesting. I liked the plot, the ending too, and the action is on point.

Annihilation ("Annihilation", USA, 2018)
I wish I hadn't watched this one. It's like "Picnic at Hanging Rock" crossed with "Solaris," but is it worth mentioning that it's an order of magnitude worse and dumber than any of the aforementioned works? They left in the mind-bending aspect (in a superficial implementation), removed the philosophy, added some scares, and recruited Natalie Portman – a blockbuster is ready.
After thinking about it, I'll give it an extra point for the beauty of the landscapes in some scenes.

Slayers

Why not, really. I wanted to find a light, fun, and silly anime to unwind after watching "Death Note" - and I found it. Besides, I heard about this anime a long time ago and decided to give it a try.

+ It's genuinely funny. Don't expect anything special, but it does a great job as a fun and not entirely brainless show. The setting is decent, the plot is cliché, but it's presented well and it's not boring to follow. The characters are mostly a bit flat (haha), but still charismatic enough to be interesting to watch; I'd especially like to mention Zelgadis (10/10, husband material, still not as good as Luke and Azazel, but he could easily make it into my top 10 favorite characters) and Xellos (I wonder when I started liking tricksters? This one is an excellent example), the others are also fine. Also, as I mentioned before, the series is really funny; even though I might not have understood all the humor due to my limited knowledge of fantasy and RPGs, it's still fun to watch, the humor is pleasant and not too crude, and there were many moments when I laughed out loud. The successful and unobtrusive breaking of the fourth wall is also a plus. At the same time, there are also serious, sometimes even heavy and dramatic moments, which are also presented well.
- Well, I'm not a big fan of humorous fantasy as such, and even towards the best examples of the genre, I have some reservations - even though I occasionally get involved in reading/watching representatives of this genre. I got into the series somewhere in the middle of the first season; at first, it didn't inspire me - maybe because Lina and Gourry didn't really grab my attention as characters, even though they turned out to be likeable. Also, the last two seasons evoked mixed feelings - it's still good, but it's not quite as good anymore, the art style changed a lot (I know there was a 10-year break), but it's still quite watchable, although Pokota is annoying at times >_>. However, I don't really want to nitpick, because it's pointless to expect too much from humorous fantasy, and this example, in my opinion, is very decent.
Also, I want to nitpick about Lina's catchphrase. In the very first episodes, it's said that Dragon Slave is "like, it's just a shortened version of Dragon Slayer))." But what if it was shortened to a completely different word, which is very poorly related in meaning, and as a result, my internal translator started to malfunction terribly?!
= 9/10. I'm not giving it a maximum score because of the genre, but I can raise it a little bit for Zelgadis. A good, light, and fun series, without too much drama, but not too brainless either. Probably one of the best examples of the genre. I like it.

I didn't expect this film to have such a strong impact on me, but nevertheless, after watching it, I made a decision for myself – to give up computer games and dedicate all the free time I used to spend on games to real life:

Once, Ihalainen went to his neighbor for matches, and then things started to happen...
A slow and unhurried film, very Finnish. But it's funny and interesting, and it left a pleasant impression.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (USA, 2018)
It was very good, I agree with Siva. No, I'm a Spider-Man fan, of course, but I have something to compare it to. The drama and comedy are excellently combined, and the film is at least as good as any of the live-action feature films (in my opinion, it's even better). Miles, Peter, and Gwen are portrayed very well and vividly (especially the first two, but Gwen is still cute), although the other Spider-People are just... okay. Based on the hype, I expected something more powerful, at least about Noir Spider-Man and Penny. Spider-Ham... well, never mind.
Miles is a bit like Siva, that's funny.

Doctor Who Season 11

Surprisingly good. Without the usual pros and cons.

I liked the Doctor herself. She's a Doctor, maybe not quite the usual one, but still a Doctor. I see the Doctor as a character as a whole and don't divide him into regenerations. Some incarnations are more successful, some less, but it's still our beloved Doctor, and the fact that she's now a woman doesn't make her any less of a Doctor. I would even say that it opens up new facets of the character. Still, it's far from the best regenerations (2, 4, 6), but also far from the worst (5, 11). A solid middle ground, I would say. Maybe even a little better than the previous version, somehow more lively.
The companions are surprisingly decent. But the problem is the same as in all of New Who - too much attention is paid to them, too much drama is made about their relationships with each other and with those around them. Thankfully, it didn't reach the level of the Ponds, but it's still not great. However, the characters seemed to fit in their roles, although I would still prefer 1-2 companions, especially since the Doctor always has helpers for a day. The First and Fifth Doctors traveled with three companions, and those were far from my favorite seasons. I generally don't like having too many people.
A little about the overabundance of tolerance - either I'm used to it, or I've mentally prepared myself, or something else, but overall, I didn't feel like throwing something heavy at the monitor. Perhaps this was due to the fact that the couple getting grief because of their gender/nationality (which, by the way, is a good thing - Martha and Bill didn't care at all what era they were in), the alien man giving birth, and the one and a half redshirts of non-traditional orientation were all insignificant compared to the companion who practically wrote "Pay attention, I'm a black lesbian, yes, I am!" on her forehead. To be fair, I'm a fairly tolerant person (I've improved recently), but I don't digest imposition and propaganda in any form, so yes.
Overall - it's a bit weak, a bit drawn out, and not quite polished. The episodes felt dull and seemed too long. There were a few cool moments, and overall the impression is pleasant, but pale. I would like something brighter, more vibrant.
= 8/10, not the best season, but the Doctor is still great. I'm fine with it.

Knightfall



Yeah, again, a bunch of guys died because of a woman. Okay, some of them died because of a cup, but still. Everything in the series is quite predictable, even the phrases that the characters say. But it can be a good way to distract yourself from a meaningless existence.

Punisher



I enjoyed watching this series. It's been a while since I had such a good time just relaxing. I really liked it. Although, I did feel a bit uncomfortable when those actresses appeared on screen together. Luckily, it only happened a few times over the two seasons.

Sword Art Online

I was intrigued by the description, and I needed something to watch. I didn't realize it was an ongoing series, and I got hooked halfway through the season. Heh, well...

+ I mentioned that I love "The Matrix," right? This series has similar themes, which initially caught my attention. And overall, the main storyline is incredibly interesting. All this stuff about virtual reality, computer games, and their place in life is a solid 10/10; I wish there was more of it. Also, there are a couple of good musical themes.
- But no, we're going to focus on melodrama and fan service. Sometimes, I had the distinct feeling that I was watching a harem anime instead of an action series. At least they clearly defined the protagonist's love interest and didn't try to mess with that too much. Show off some cleavage? Sure. Panties? Why not, a hundred times. And all sorts of perverted fetishists. For half of the series, I was annoyed by how the characters spent more time building relationships and having children than fighting monsters and enjoying life. Seriously, there's less melodrama in Sailor Moon! And overall, none of the characters really resonated with me; I didn't feel the need to care about any of them more than necessary.
= 5/10. A very cool and interesting idea was ruined by fan service and excessive, saccharine romance. Why are romantic storylines in works where romance isn't the main focus often shown much better and more interestingly than here, where relationships take up a good half of the screen time?! I think I'll finish the third season when it comes out (if I don't forget), because I'm still curious about how this thing ends, and I can safely put this title in the "forgettable" category.
