From real-life experience, I can say that if you've been drinking and hanging out with someone, the age difference somehow fades away and becomes unnoticeable. And besides, Jerth probably wouldn't give money to just any acquaintance, especially after seeing him haggle with a woman.

Based on personal experience, after a certain age, you either don't notice the difference at all if the person is decent, or you immediately label them as an unpleasant person, and their age is a significant factor in that assessment, and the fact that they are drinking won't change that.
