Tsenira
The furnishings of the room in which Tsenira found herself could only be described as meager. To tell the truth, it was hard to even call it a room—her current place of residence more closely resembled a pantry. However, instead of supplies, this pantry was filled with lifeless human bodies. Most importantly, the elf had absolutely no memory of how she had ended up here. One moment, she was on her way to meet her former mentor. The next, she found herself in this strange room: surrounded by corpses, stripped of her belongings, and with a stab wound in her side. Hoping to shed light on what was happening, Tsenira quietly crawled toward the door leading out of the pantry. Several people were animatedly discussing something in the adjacent room.
– You damn idiots, do you even realize what you've done?! – a coarse male voice rang out.
– But boss, how could we have known? – a second male voice whimpered uncertainly, higher and softer than the first.
– You're robbers, for fuck's sake! And you should immediately notice things like rings, amulets, and other trinkets!
– We did notice, – a loud female voice was heard, – and we immediately thought someone would pay us well for such a trinket!
– Roaring Dragon, – it seemed the owner of the first voice was losing patience, - Do you even know whose symbolism this is?! This is the fucking Mages' Guild! If they find out about this, they'll drag us into a dungeon to perform all sorts of high-brow experiments! And we'll come back from there with a second ass where our heads should be! You have nothing to lose, of course, but I would like to avoid such a fate!
– Oh, just calm down, we'll just throw her corpse out, – the owner of the third voice tried to soothe the "boss," - we'll just toss the ring and bury the body somewhere. She's skinny as a matchstick anyway, so we wouldn't have gotten much for her.
– They will find out!
– But how, boss? – the second voice whimpered again.
– I don't know! Through magic! I'm not a mage, I don't understand this stuff!
As much as the elf wanted to continue eavesdropping on the bandits' intellectual conversation, this discussion clearly hinted that she needed to act now. Especially since she had already learned everything she needed to know. Specifically, what had happened to her and where her things were. With a couple of careless passes of her hand, Tsenira pointed at one of the corpses. In the very next second, a skeleton emerged from the dead body, grinning with all its teeth due to its newfound freedom. Or perhaps snarling maliciously at Tsenira, whose fault it was that he remained naked. Both options suited the Necromancer. Having confirmed that her powers were still with her, the elf repeated her actions several times. Until a small army stood before her. Of six people. Without armor or weapons. However, for robbers, even this should be enough.
– Good morning! – the sorceress shouted, flinging the door open.
– Morning, – the owner of the coarse voice nodded confusedly, a scrawny short fellow in a red bandana. However, a moment later, it became difficult to tell where his headgear ended and his face began, – You couldn't even kill her, you damn idiots!
– No, boss, we made sure she was gone, – the owner of the loud voice, a woman of massive build, made a characteristic sound, – kicked the bucket. She probably became one of those... oh, zombies!
And it was at this exact moment that Tsenira was hit by the realization that she had indeed died. No matter how stupid these bandits were, they would hardly have made such a mistake. However, in that case, it meant that...
– I am not a zombie, – the Necromancer said with a breath, – I am a lich.
– You're a damn corpse! – shouted the ataman, who had more or less pulled himself together, and drawing a crossbow, fired toward the elf. She was saved only by the fact that she managed to take cover behind the pantry door.
– That was rude! – she shouted offendedly, still hiding behind the door, – Nothing for it, I'll have to do this the hard way... attack, my army!
As soon as Tsenira gave the command, a horde of naked and unarmed skeletons burst from the pantry, rapidly closing the distance between themselves and the bandits. The leader of the latter, retreating uncertainly, tried to fire back. The owner of the loud voice, grabbing a battleaxe, smiled bloodthirstily. Meanwhile, the one who loved to whimper, a giant with thick mustaches, bolted with the words "I'll call the other guys!". However, an ice spear accurately launched by the elf disrupted both his plans and the functioning of his internal organs. Soon, his more courageous comrades joined him.
The bandits did not remain dead for long. While the original six skeletons armed themselves with brooms, bottles, and other household items, Tsenira saw to it that their ranks were supplemented by at least someone armed with proper weapons. After all, they still had to deal with other members of the gang while she focused on finding her own things and appropriating others.
Humming a simple melody to herself, the elf walked proudly along the path. Following her, carrying sacks of loot on their bony shoulders, was a line of skeletons. Finally, reaching her destination—a sinister-looking tower—the procession stopped. This place brought back many memories for Tsenira, as it was here that she had once mastered the art of necromancy. Her mentor, Tesir, still lived in this wilderness to this day. Unlike "normal" mages, the elderly Necromancer didn't even consider the option of living in a city. According to her, living among animals was better because they at least didn't ask stupid questions.
– Open up, you old hag! – the elf shouted, knocking on the door with all her might.
After several minutes of waiting and a few more shouts, the tower door was opened by a short old woman with stern features.
– You are late, – Tesira said dryly, inviting her student to follow her, – you should have arrived yesterday. What delayed you? Another adventure? And where did so many skeletons come from? Though, it would be a sin to complain.
– Oh, it's a very funny story, – Tsenira was full of enthusiasm, – and it started with my death!
– Too funny to be true, – the old woman grunted, – continue.
– Absolute truth. I was killed by bandits. As I understand it, they wanted to sell my corpse to someone. But I rose as a lich. And I killed them. And then robbed them. The end.
– If that is truly the case, then it was worth it, – concluded the elderly Necromancer, – Your death, of course. Not the waiting. Next time, I advise you not to be late.
– Perhaps, – agreed the elf, – but let's not talk about me. Why did you call me?
– I need help with a certain experiment. Bodies for it should soon arr... – Tesira cut her sentence short and turned to her student. From the latter's eyes, she realized they had both been visited by the same thought, – Tell me, Tsenira, what did the leader of your bandits look like?
– A dwarf in a red bandana. Actually, I even brought him with me, – the Necromancer nodded toward a short skeleton, who friendlily waved his crossbow at the old woman.
– In that case, there will be no experiment, - Tesira rubbed her eyes wearily, – but I'll take your skeletons anyway. They'll come in handy.
– Be my guest. In cities, they cause more problems than they're worth anyway. May I go?
– You just met your old mentor and you're already in a hurry to leave? Not so fast. Instead of one set of research, you'll help me with others. Concerning liches. After that, you can go wherever you wanted.
– To Tsondokh Sizeb.
– Even if it's to Tutar.
