Posts from Will there be a new version of Heroes 3?
When creating this thread, I didn't just want to hear "yes" or "no," but rather get detailed explanations. For example, everyone is discussing the new faction everywhere, but not in the Heroes of Might and Magic III forum – why? In general, what are your thoughts on this topic? What needs to be changed in a new possible version, what should be added, and what should be forgotten forever? Which version should be taken as a standard, and what should be used as a basis for creating another masterpiece? Would you want the found bugs to remain, as a kind of trick or oversight? And so on, basically, everything about everything. :)
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely, Don Carlos Chezarro Ley.

The company that made the third installment is defunct, and the publisher also went bankrupt. The rights have been sold, and the result is the fifth installment. So, if there are any continuations for the third game, they will likely be fan-made (like In the Wake of Gods, etc.).
Тьма - это то, что позволяет смертным не забывать, как ярок бывает свет.
if any are made, they will be fan-made (like "In the Wake of Gods" and others).
But did fans really create "In the Wake of Gods"? Even if they did, do you think they can't come up with a version that would be worthy of everyone's attention?

Well, if someone decides to do it, they will create it. :) In the new version, I wouldn't want to see any new improvements/additions in the form of ERM scripts, but rather a standard and familiar game mechanic. And those incomprehensible artifacts and rules that were in Heroes of Might and Magic... Although, what am I talking about Heroes of Might and Magic for? Personally, my wishes are: creating new graphics (including the engine) for changeable resolutions and creating two-dimensional buildings/heroes/monsters/landscapes with higher resolution and, accordingly, more detail.

But that's about the graphics; I have no complaints about the game mechanics. Of course, it makes sense to add a few new monsters, expand the scripting capabilities of the editor to the level of Heroes of Might and Magic IV, plus add a few new buildings and expand the mercenary camp so that there is an opportunity to choose between several volunteers. And add a couple of artifacts. Well, and... okay, that's enough plans for a year. :) Yes, I almost forgot! Full compatibility with other Heroes 3 maps!
It's hard to say anything about the traditional heroes, but it seems that it was mentioned a long time ago that a new castle is being made for the expansion pack.
I would prefer to see a couple of new castles, many more neutral creatures, and generally more creatures, more developed magic, and more composite artifacts.
Although I'm afraid this won't happen.
Sincerely, Draco

Well... how to put it! Within the framework of Heroes of Might and Magic III½, all of this is already being implemented... There are already more neutral creatures... and new castles are on the way ;)

The danger of any changes lies in the fact that they can ultimately disrupt the game balance. For Heroes of Might and Magic III (SoD), the balance is currently very close to perfection. Therefore, any changes will simply create a different game – WoG is an example of this. It's not Heroes of Might and Magic III; it's just a different game, albeit very similar...

Well, yes... maybe... however, those very "WoG settings" help bring it closer to SoD... And there are also some very interesting new features... In general, I love WoG, although lately I've been playing the classic Heroes of Might and Magic III.

Yeah, maybe... however, those very "WoG settings" help bring it closer to SoD... And there are some very interesting innovations there... In general, I love WoG, although lately I've been playing the classic third installment.
When WoG came out, it also captivated me, but the time came to evaluate its innovations as a form of imbalance... :( For example, there is a building where you can find artifacts for money (like playing a slot machine), but with enough time and effort, you can dig up any artifact...
When I spent about an hour of real time trying to find the Shackles of War (I really needed them), and finally dug them up, I realized how silly this whole thing was... I lost interest in using them, because there was no excitement left - it's a kind of perverted "god mode," where the opponent simply has no chance of resistance... It's the same as entering a cheat code. And there are many such moments.
Therefore, SoD is a classic, and it can no longer be improved. And it doesn't need to be... :)

To my shame, I have never played Heroes of Might and Magic III½. I don't even know what it is, and whether it is similar to the third game. However, I would like all of this to be in the game that I know - Heroes of Might and Magic III.
I like Wake of Gods! I don't like the building that generates artifacts – just disable it in the settings! This is one of the great advantages of Wake of Gods – the ability to play with specific settings, as there are many different features that drastically change the game. I think the biggest advantages of Wake of Gods are the new monsters, new artifacts, commanders (especially powerful units, one per hero, that develop along with the hero and can have their own artifacts), experience for units, and quest missions. Soon, Wake of Gods 3.59 will be released, with a 10th city – Bastion, designed in an Egyptian style. They are also working on two more cities – Kremlin, a Russian city, and Cove, an underwater city.
Apparently, there's a misunderstanding about what WoG is. The thing is, WoG is the very engine that allows you to bring the ideas listed here to life, among other things. In the standard Heroes engine, you can only do what the developers have provided. In the WoG engine, you can do practically anything you want. Here you have graphics, new monsters, new towns, a new balance, if you wish – in short, everything. The WoG developers were able to modify the Heroes executable in such a way that fans of the game gained the ability to use both the potential inherent in the standard executable (the space left by the Heroes developers for new monsters, for example) and to introduce new elements outside the executable (new town icons, new terrains, modified monster images, etc.). Moreover, the quality of the graphics can be higher than in the original Heroes, so the game is transformed in many ways. As for the game mechanics, WoG allows you to make various game settings, so you can adjust the mechanics to your liking. Of course, WoG significantly affects the familiar game mechanics on standard Heroes maps, which you are already used to, which is why the change in balance during WoG modification is irritating. And the culture of WoG maps is not yet very developed, but there are also good examples – on the maps of Grigori Minchev, for example, there is a script to disable WoG, which allows you to maintain the balance on the maps that the author has created, regardless of the WoG settings of a particular player. This is one of the possible ways to avoid confusion and imbalance during WoG modification. But it is important to understand that there are standard Heroes, and there is WoG – that is, modified Heroes. If you want to see Heroes that have been modified in any way, then you cannot do without WoG. And there can be no compatibility here, at least for the time being.

But it’s important to understand that there are standard Heroes, and there’s WoG – i.e., modified Heroes. If you want to see any modified Heroes, you can’t do without WoG. And there can’t be any compatibility here, at least not at the moment.
Here is, in essence, a complete answer to the topic! The classic version of HMM III doesn’t need to be changed. It is a whole in itself and that’s what makes it attractive. And if there is a desire to see NEW heroes, based on the WoG engine, you can create an infinite number of variations to suit all tastes...
