I'm continuing my journey through depressing TV shows. I'm not watching everything from the list I found. I have to choose, as some of them involve outright mysticism and fantasy, and I've already seen some, while others are about criminals and various investigations. So, the list turned out to be short. I thought this series would be much more mundane and simple, but it turned out not to be. It's nice to be wrong like that. It's pleasant to be surprised. I wish it happened more often.
At first, it seems that what happened to the main character made him crazy, strange, and incomprehensible to those around him. And that's not surprising; who wouldn't go crazy after spending 19 years in solitary confinement? But later, you realize that he was strange from the very beginning. Yes, prison greatly exacerbated everything, but even without it, he would still have remained strange. The series has many good scenes, but since it lacks action, they seem a bit boring and drawn out. Perhaps this is the only downside I noticed. I liked the scene with the mystical experience of the main character when he was in a coma. It was well done. Those who believe in the afterlife will think that this dialogue took place there, while those who don't will think that it's happening in the main character's head. No one was offended. I liked the dialogues. Most of them are very well written. Listening to them, I thought that in reality, people don't talk like that. That's what it seemed to me. And then I remembered that I don't really talk to people much (online gamers and a couple of real-life friends don't count). I mean, not conversations about the weather or answers to the question "how are you?". There were people who tried to get me to talk (not relatives), but I somehow kept silent or answered in monosyllables. That's usually how it happened. And I'm becoming more and more silent. Why am I writing this here? It's supposed to be a topic about movies? I don't know; it just happens. Maybe I just don't want to write a long post on a forum like a Heroes fan or create a topic like Revan (everyone will think it's a boring review of a series and won't read it, haha!). Or maybe I should. So, one dialogue stood out, in which the main character tells a guy from the neighboring cell that he is afraid of death, to which the guy later replies that the main character is afraid of life. This seemed very true to me... In general, there were many good scenes and good, truthful dialogues. And the ending is good. Overall, I really liked this series. After watching it, I even felt a little better. Will it last long? I'll probably give it a rating of 9.6 out of 10, even though I don't like to rate things.

Seasons 2 and 3. A few years ago, I gave the first season a rating of about 7.5. It seemed a bit depressing, and I wasn't very impressed with the casting – putting this guy with a worn-out face in the lead role? It felt a bit weak (although he acts brilliantly). Plus, I expected the quality of the content to decline as a spin-off of Breaking Bad, but it turned out to be watchable, completely independent, and quite interesting.
I'll rate the second and third seasons at 8.5, and now I'm sure I'll finish watching them. This guy knows how to make a great series – I occasionally thought of the creator while watching. Everyone acts well, there are no more of those depressing scenes from Breaking Bad where the hero sits for ten minutes in close-up, picking his nose, but there is some logical action that nicely complements the dialogue. I watched the two new seasons, 10 episodes each, in one go over three days – for me, that's a good indicator, especially considering that I haven't watched series in a long time and didn't even feel like it. Then, I had another unexpectedly pleasant thought that the series isn't "woke" at all – zero racial quotas, zero LGBT quotas, zero sob stories about "those people" being oppressed by society. A few years ago, I wouldn't have even thought about this, lol, but after all the modern content, the simple absence of "cancer" is noticeable and perceived as a plus (of course, I didn't raise the rating for this – it's just like a cherry on top).
In general, it's good stuff if you like stories about conversations, cleverness, and fighting against a crappy life.

Okay, Schwarzenegger is done, who's next? Stallone, hmm.

"The Golden Compass". I didn't expect much from the movie, but, strangely enough, I was quite moved by it. The fairy tale doesn't necessarily have a powerful emotional impact or remarkable logic, no... It's simply incredibly atmospheric. So much so that I haven't encountered anything like it in a long time, if ever. The world described there is good and interesting.
Well, and besides... Talking bears, a dystopian world, some naivety, it all comes with the package. Of course, you can react to this in different ways.
9/10 I realized that I either want a sequel or want to read the book, perhaps.

Not bad. The beginning is good. And overall, it's a good movie. Ryan was saved.

Groundhog Day



A typical movie about love (and something else, but I didn't understand). Nothing special. Do everything right, be a good guy, and everything will be fine! Heh. No, it won't. Don't get fooled, guys.

By the way, there's another movie in a similar style - 12 Christmas Dates

Blade Runner. Both parts. The new one is indeed a continuation, so watching the old one was the right decision. Overall, it's not bad, although it's better to watch it at home and alone, because it's not a mindless action movie that you can watch while surrounded by laughing and eating idiots. Fans of this genre will enjoy it, but others might not.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The movie came out some time ago, but I only got around to watching it now. I must say, it's much better than the 4th installment. Wonderful humor, the traditional soundtrack, and for once, all the main characters are present, even if a couple of them only appear once. Strangely enough, the film is very dramatic. Despite some obvious plot holes, the story is quite good. Overall, it's worth watching and will lift your spirits. And of course, there's action, fights, chases, cannon fire, and ghosts. A worthy addition to the Pirates franchise. I enjoyed it.
