No, but I'm sure that only bright personalities gather there, who stand out even among millions of other anime fans.
Yes, everyone stands out with their individuality. I've seen it. Although, of course, there are truly worthwhile, non-standard franchises. But if you look at it as a whole, most anime and manga are made as copies within a particular genre.
You're not entirely right, actually. What millions are you talking about? We don't have that many anime fans in Kyiv; I wish there were more. Considering that a third of those who visit anime shops or parties are just people who think anime is trendy or wannabe fans who have watched a couple of titles, there aren't many distinct personalities, fewer than I'd like. But yes, they stand out; I remember each of them and even chatted with some.

I'm not sure if Ney was being sarcastic now...
Although, of course, there are some truly good, unconventional franchises. But if you look at it as a whole, most anime and manga are made as a copy within a particular genre.
We're not talking about genres; we're talking about people.
We are not talking about genres, but about people.
People who cosplay a particular franchise from a specific genre. Often, they choose science fiction. The number of people who have cosplayed Edward Elric and L from Death Note is staggering, which, by the way, emphasizes individuality and unconventional thinking. By the way, anime-style pictures are also related to this phrase. There are random, semi-pornographic drawings in an anime style, but most of them are fan art based on a specific franchise. There are also a lot of "unique" works there.
Mainstream doesn't equal bad taste.
Michael Jackson was covered by everyone, does that make him bad now? Or do those who covered him lack individuality or a sense of taste?

There aren't that few anime fans in Kyiv. Mostly, they are teenagers who will likely abandon this hobby as they get older. Although, there are exceptions.
There's a million times more individuality in anime than in the pictures submitted to this contest. How do they express a person? Not at all, it's just a gray mass – that's it. Respect to those who submitted unconventional pictures; I hope I guessed correctly.

It's very interesting and honorable to mess with other people's minds, trying to show how witty or different you are.
After a few years, you changed your opinion.

Considering that a third of those who visit anime shops or parties are the same people, they are either just socialites who think anime is trendy, or wannabe fans who have watched a couple of titles.
Just like at all similar events. Otherwise, half of the people would be sitting at home like me.

In general, just like quantity, originality has nothing to do with quality. You can come up with a lot of "unconventional" ideas, but will it be interesting or even better than a concept that has already become tiresome? Not necessarily.

The discussion somehow went in a different direction. My point was that if you organize a contest where you can only submit anime-style pictures, the diversity and originality will be much greater than in these landscapes.

Oh well, I would have had to submit something from Shaman King. Does that even count as anime?
