I have another question: why can maps be created in any editor except Wog's? Isn't it important that if a person is truly skilled in Heroes3, this would only increase the number of participants in the contest. Right now, there are only 9 participants, which means there will be 9 maps – that's a rather small selection. So, why only in those editors? What's so special about Wog's?

Perhaps because WoG isn't an official editor, ERM scripts allow you to create a completely different game. And not everyone may have WoG. Moreover, if you create maps for WoG, you can easily create them for HoMM3 as well. And also – this is a section for HoMM3; maps for Heroes 1, 2, 4, and 5 are not accepted here. And there is a separate topic for WoG.

Hello everyone! Great contest, I'm planning to participate, but after reading the rules, I was very disappointed - the Wog editor can't be used... And it's the only one that works for me... Maybe you can suggest where I can download an editor for The Shadow of Death (although others would work too). :(
Oh, never mind, I found it, a nice person posted it on the forum... I'm going to start creating now!

Dear VDV_forever, I have already written to you several times in private messages regarding the judging and evaluation of maps, but unfortunately, I have not received a response. I see that 2 people have already submitted their maps. Please send me these maps for evaluation to the following email address: k0lbazzer@bk.ru I will evaluate them and send you the results, along with some comments on the evaluation system, if necessary.

I also want to participate! But I have one question: I've been making maps for 2 years now, but I still don't know what "playability" means and how to make maps playable. :smile32:

It seems that for all these 2 years, you've been creating maps exclusively for yourself or a small circle of friends!!!;)
In my understanding, "PLAYABILITY" is not only an interesting plot and a beautiful landscape, but also the real attractiveness of the map for diverse and widespread use... for tournaments:smile51: /duels:smile30:/for fun:smile02:
P.S. In short, it should be "to the taste" of everyone, from "fanatics" to "gourmets."

Indeed, I always created maps for myself and my fellow Heroes players. :)
If I understand correctly, there isn't a technical concept of "Playability."
There is a concept in terms of quality. If there is a link about "Playability" and what constitutes tournament or quest maps, please share it.
Thank you in advance! ;)

Well, it's unlikely to be possible... The concept of playability is quite vague. And here, it's unlikely that you can learn how to create maps that are guaranteed to be playable. It only comes with experience.

As a rule, the playability of a map is largely influenced by the balance of power, which means that the player will be in a state of sufficient tension throughout the game, i.e., the opponent must constantly remind themselves. Because if by the end of the first third of the game, everything is already decided and clear, then further interest disappears... But, on the other hand, you can overdo it and turn the map into a constant race between your cities with the goal of keeping them from being captured, when the opponent is coming from everywhere... :) Such a map is easier to abandon than to finish... Both of these options are not very playable, i.e., not interesting. Finding the golden mean is the task.

To understand what tournament maps are, play at least a dozen tournaments, then you will understand better how they differ from non-tournament maps... Namely, by being more playable... :)

Then let's try to find that middle ground:smile01:

Maybe it’s simpler: if the map is fun to play, then it’s playable; if you don’t enjoy playing your own map, then it’s not playable.

I agree, that's pretty much how it is.

P.S. But in my understanding, "playability" is like in chess – not every game is the same. In terms of Heroes, "playability" means non-linearity. That is, the map should offer several different scenarios for completing it, which would differ from other scenarios (in subsequent playthroughs on that map). The more such scenarios there are on the map, the more "playable" the map is.

Listen, I created a good map, but here's the problem: I have a pirated version of Heroes 3.5 copied onto a flash drive through several intermediaries, without a licensed version of Heroes 3 from Ubisoft and all the other goodies... In short, the map is in the Wake of Gods version, but I, for example, don't see any fundamental difference in the gameplay between the regular Heroes 3 and the 3.5 version that I have.
And secondly, I've only been on your site for a week, why would I start creating Kilgore nicknames for forum members I don't know?
I want to participate in the contest with this map. Will you accept it?
If so, I'll send it. Maybe you can also help me convert it to the third version, if that's such

Vanechka, you can find the nicknames of forum users on the first page of this thread – choose whichever you like. As for the modification, you could try deleting all the objects from *In the Wake of Gods*, or replacing them with objects from *The Shadow of Death*.
