In my opinion, Thumbs is not related to Heroes of Might and Magic. But just in case: where was it located, and what was its file extension?
If necessary, it might be possible to recover it using UndeletePlus.

It is actually related; it's their main file. It was located in the HOMMToE folder and had the MPO extension, and it cannot be recovered with Undeleteplus.
If I understand correctly, the main executable is H5_Game.exe. And I've never seen a file with that extension before. Maybe that was the virus? :) Honestly, I don't have any such files, and I never have. And yet, the game works perfectly.
From a CD? What nonsense is that? Even if you wanted to, you can't delete files from a CD. Unless it's a rewritable CD (RW). And yes, it seems to be responsible for displaying folders in Windows. I should Google it.
