Tieru, perhaps the subjugation effect was removed by an attack only in the unpatched vanilla version (I didn't play it). In versions 1.3-1.5 and 2.1, it is not removed by an attack.
I don't remember exactly which version I had for the first five games, but I definitely remember that when attacking, the subjugation effect was removed, just like the blindness effect. It seems like the version Alan was talking about, version 1.3.

Well, damn. It turns out that, in any case, if you want to be a powerful mage (in any faction), you need to develop two schools of magic, because one can always be countered...

For the Warlock and Druid, I don't level up any magic other than Chaos. I'm only afraid of an Orc with Anti-Chaos.

Besides Chaos magic, I don't develop any other magic for the Warlock and Druid.
For the Warlock, Summoning looks very good for a fast game...
And for the Druid, IMHO, Light is preferable...
But, it should be noted that different maps require different strategies:)

Only Summoning can ruin things like that;)<

_Prizrak_, in 3.0, the new Druids significantly increase the hero's spellcasting ability. Plus, using the skill doesn't consume a turn for reloading arrows. Therefore, Chaos has become much stronger. Although, in a very long game, Light might be slightly better than Chaos.

That's all clear... But how often can you find Chaos creatures?.. They are quite rare... Of course, he himself has become stronger, I'm not arguing...

Only summoned creatures can ruin things like that.

Orcs can ruin any magic.
Mages can ruin Chaos and Darkness.
Whoever controls Light/Darkness can ruin the opposite, respectively.
Plus, Zoltan, that scoundrel, significantly reduces the number of spells...

De facto, in 3.0, it's significantly easier to get Chaos magic than Light magic. The probability of Light magic appearing is 4%. There's a bug in the game because it should actually be 8%, just like Chaos magic. Instead of Light magic with an 8% probability, Enchantment magic appears. Mdanс wrote about this somewhere, confirming the information with data from game resources.
O God of Earth and Altar,
Bow down and hear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter,
Our people drift and die,
The walls of gold entomb us,
The swords of scorn divide,
Take not thy thunder from us,
Take away our pride.

I've read this and I know about it, but my experience doesn't reflect that... No matter how many times I play Hot Seat against Elves, Light appears much more often... + the maximum benefit from Chaos comes when the machines are upgraded, and it's practically impossible to do that.

Well, what can I say? In all cases, I was just lucky. After all, numbers are numbers, and a program can't malfunction and change probabilities. And the fact that 4 is greater than 8 is known to everyone. I don't play as elves very often myself. Except that recently, I started the Ogo-i campaign "Day of Fiery Tears," where you have to play as an elf. I waited and waited for the Light skill. By level 15, it still hadn't appeared, so I decided not to risk it and chose Chaos. Because being without magic would be very bad. So, my modest experience suggests the opposite :)

Chaos is good for the Druids, even without machines. Moreover, leadership often triggers. With Empathy, the hero often moves and deals significant damage. I didn't even notice how often Light appears. Chaos appears quite often.

Mages can counterspell any magic, ruining it for anyone. And if they manage to trigger leadership, they become incredibly powerful.

In my opinion, Empathy is a very cool ability. Especially in the hands of a mage with Machine devotion. If the mage doesn't encounter a Necromancer with Curse on the battlefield and artifacts that boost morale, it's even better.

Mages can counter any magic with a counterspell, no matter who casts it. And if they manage to get a leadership skill, they become incredibly powerful.
I wouldn't say they're overpowered. Because mages have problems with physical damage. No matter how good their mini-artifacts and artifacts are, they can't match regular warrior heroes. Therefore, trading our hero for an enemy hero is not the best option. Unless, of course, it's a "mage vs. mage" battle.

Major Whirl, if you manage to secure the leadership, there will be no need for a trade. With empathy and dedication, the mage casts spells much more often than the enemy. He simply dominates. In the single-player campaign, I spent a lot of money on leadership for Zehir. No enemy, including Biara, cast a single spell. However, in a game against human players, I'm unlikely to spend many turns in a row investing in the mentor without building anything in the castle. By the time you get the leadership, they will come and defeat you. Currently, in the original campaign in version 3.0, the first witch encountered in the 2nd mission gave Zehir leadership.

2 Major
I should ask Shaddar about it:);)
No matter how good the mini-artifacts and artifacts are, they can't catch up to regular warrior heroes.
But why would they need to catch up to warrior heroes? Warrior heroes don't have 2 schools of magic... With the help of mini-artifacts, we may not get much closer to the stats of a warrior, but we still have a significant advantage - we have powerful spells... So, in Heroes 5, mage heroes don't look as good as warriors, as they did in Heroes 3, but here they are equal:).

Why would they need to chase Warrior heroes?
Prizrak, read above. I already wrote that, given that mages can't match warriors in combat stats, constantly using a counterspell is not beneficial, because almost any hero will defeat a mage if the latter just blocks spells.
